Y'all are insane to want that look. I'll stay in the shade, TYVM
I pride my graveyard worker tan. Sunburned neck and lower arms, rest white as snow. Unlike regular construction workers, working topless on graveyard is considered rude. And yes, without direct sunlight the job is A LOT easier.
It's pretty simple. You, in your youth, is the person all those people in tanning salons are trying to emulate. They want to look like active outdoorsy people who surf and swim and skate.

In Denmark everyone rides bicycles from the earliest age I just got used to a relatively fit population. That means more fit women per capita. As an old man of 64 who remembers the 70s quite well we just weren't such an overweight society. So all my 1st girlfriends were hippie/alternachicks until the mid 90s and had leg hair etc. Who cares not me.
