Theres no need to look for a word whose definition to refute, what matters is that the general sentiment is that it was presented poorly. Each has their own reason to dislike it, to me it was because portrayals of religions (be it artisric or not) isnt exactly *why* i would tune in to see the olympic games. So many bad "revolutionary" takes it's easy to see why the west is sliding so wholly into fascism. Are you a trot? Firstly, accepting uncritically bourgeois science on transsexuality, or anything else, and dismissing any criticism as "reactionary" is unmaterialistic. It is not an argument, just a slander. You do claim to be a Marxist, right? Do you even understand the difference between materialism and idealism? These gold medal winning "women" boxers are in fact intersex (formally known as hermaphrodite) meaning they have not high for a woman level of testosterone but male levels. This is because they have testes producing it. This provides an unfair advantage over non-intersex women. The fact they both won gold provides some material evidence that there is an unfair advantage, though I believe testosterone supplements are also banned for this reason. If you are really about revolution, then you should engage with "reactionaries" to win them over with solid arguments, not dismissively call them names.

Respect on the video. Really liked it. As Black American I can only vaguely relate cuz bring born 2 years into Reagan 2nd term. It wasn’t until I got older. The Christian's reaction and outrage really pissed me off personally because the same day as the opening ceremony I watched a video coming from Gaza where a child no older than 18 months was beheaded and cut up into pieces. The fact this upset the west but not what's happening in Gaza just shows how out of touch the world is 😞
What makes me angry is how Christians think that the world is ending from the gays being shown and Jesus being made fun of, you know the exact stuff that has happened since the 70s. Meanwhile, people in Palestine/Ukraine are still moving on with daily life despite having their schools, cities, and hospitals blown up. The "world" that those people live in is literally ending for them, yet the living has an optimistic hopeful outlook on life than the couch potato Christians here.

really good that you don’t portray reactionaries and right wingers as bad, egoistic and dumb but misguided people suffering. The only thing i would have liked is you to also mention that fairness in sports is a valid concern and we should try to find good solutions that prevent anti trans sentiment on the one hand but prevent people with extreme advantages or abusing substances (like testosterone) from smashing competitions on the other.
if people want more info about historical transphobia in sport, youtuber EssenceOfThought has been doing a series on the topic bunch of weird inter-european racism, more cases of trans men coming out, and fragile cis men like that swim coach changing the rules of events after women outperformed the men.

Loved the video, especially the part about how the original Olympics were so much more gay - and it's true. I only watched the opening ceremony, because my hosts on that night were watching. I didn't mind the queer scene, that was at least amusing. A lot of the rest was just really bad. The real outrage is how they spent millions on such a lousy show and how Macron, the darling of unscrupulous capitalists and oligarchs, basked in the fake glory. So embarrassing.

This was obviously a right wing outrage, but I also remember someone saying that if it was a parody of islamic iconography therre would have been even bigger and rightful outrage. I think there is a "religion as opium of the masses" at play too. There's definitely something to this "opium of the masses". I remember reading a post where this person was denouncing the opening ceremony and claiming that it was disrespectful even outside of Christian America because she, a Malaysian Christian, said so. I was totally sympathetic to her because I, as an American, am aware of American blindness and how we conflate everything about ourselves. I wanted to know her side and understand where the disrespect occured. But that was it. She didn't explain why she felt disrespected or what about the opening ceremony directly mocked Christianity, she just said that it did and that it was in poor taste, so I couldn't understand her POV. She went on to say that Christianity as a religion deserves respect and has been the receiver of abuse for too long in the modern era (which...sure, but really?) Maybe that post wasn't for me, maybe it was for someone who would directly understand her worldview, but it still stands to show that there's something like a forced belief going on that insists on itself, which I think this video explains pretty well. I mean, for context, I also thought that the opening ceremony was kind of wack (but fun) and was raised Christian (but no beliefs). I know that the last supper is a part of the Bible, but the painting that we know in the West is just an interpretation of it. I was also into Greek mythology as a kid and got the reference to Dionysus instantly after seeing the fruit crown. Knowing all this, I was genuinely interested as to why Christians were offended, but there wasn't much of an answer in my opinion. It's okay to have feelings and opinions, but isn't this situation weird? Religion in general is difficult to comprehend by people like me who are not religious.
@@0b.d0a couple of thoughts on this. One, Islamic puritans are also conservative. Two, I feel like it’s less so alienation and more so social media and the internet enabling more and more niches and echo chambers. If anything this is harmful for religion because it’s been there as a community for millennia but now has to compete with all sorts of online niches and previously subcultures popularized by the power of press. And well unsurprisingly religion continued to decline globally. I do think of people who are religious though they are definitely clinging more to religion. Three, as a weeb I will gladly call out the pedo bullshit 😎 and stay away from those who don’t at least also condemn it.
