As a Beatles-obsessed friend of mine told me (and I've read in many other sources too), Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was actually about/inspired by a drawing that Lennon's son made as a child depicting his friend Lucy. The LSD "initials" were coincidental, it was not intended to be about the drug.

John wrote strawberry fields, tomorrow never knows, dear prudence, across the universe, all you need is love, dont let me down and I am the walrus. Paul wrote yesterday and fool on the hill and what else? Why dont we do it in the road? Which obviously could've been replaced with a harrison song. Paul McCartney has even said between the friendly "rivalry" john obviously won. lollll
