Fian Greenleaf It wasn’t a stupid question. The interviewer was quoting what an American had said. The phrase “UnAmerican” meant a lot more than just “Not American” It was used to mean undesirables like communists, etc. Of course John knew this and was sending it up.

Stupid question with logical answer
Fian Greenleaf It wasn’t a stupid question. The interviewer was quoting what an American had said. The phrase “UnAmerican” meant a lot more than just “Not American” It was used to mean undesirables like communists, etc. Of course John knew this and was sending it up.

Even back then, "Love Me Do" was far from their best song. All the other original compositions on their first album are better written than it. I still enjoy "Love Me Do" but as far as crafting goes, it's one of their worst written songs. So I don't know why George Martin would have said it was the best they could give.
