  • We install a pair of 1965 1966 Mustang Reproduction fenders on the Punisher Mustang. We show how to tweak the repop front fenders for an OK fit. More would be needed to use them on a Concours car.

    This might be the best fender re and re video I’ve seen. Thanks for all of the detail about alignment and fitment.

    Admire the fact that you go to the time and effort to make repop parts fit instead of just dismissing them. Originals are getting harder to find every passing day. Nice!

    Never knew the 3M adhesive strips were used on the fenders. I knew they used it on the gas tank. Great information I was looking for.
    Great job. Those lower fender nut inserts are a pain for me to install. LOL Awesome work guys!

      another trick is to get a few wine corks and make cork washers for fitment between the fender and apron. Less expensive and less messy if you have to remove the fender.

    after watching 17 minutes of the video do we finally get to see you actually installing fender onto the car, and no mention about splash guards! you don't have splash guards installed as you made it look so much easier to install fender without them. I believe splash guards need to be installed. plus you show working on a car that has a nice paint finish and how to avoid chipping or scratching the nice paint job most people have to deal with. please let us know these important details. but still I appreciate your videos they have been very helpful through the years of my restoration, I had to go to Jo daddys garage channel where he discuss first installing the ever important splash guards.

      @AutoRestoMod  Před rokem +1

      I'm glad Joe daddy was able to help you out! Splash gards are not gonna make any difference in the fitment of the fender because they are flexible. And I think you're really missing the point of the video. The point of the video is to show you how to install an offender yes, but it's also showing you the things you need to look out for when installing a fender on a classic Mustang. The lead up to installing the Fender is just as important as the installation of the Fender. The point I'm trying to make in the video is that you should try installing these things before paint so there really isn't any need to put tape or paper or anything around the edge of the Fender on installation.

    Don't Body Shops have panel fitment specs in books? My rule of thumb is the seams are 1/8 inch spacing. And when aligning a door I found wood shims work great along with a scribe and chaulk.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 6 lety +2

      Not typically for cars as old as ours. Good rule of thumb!

    How do you install the nut for the bottom fender bolt? Having troubles with my 66 mustang coupe installing the fender.

      @AutoRestoMod  Před 4 měsíci

      The nut is a special slide nut, or Cage Nut: www.npdlink.com/product/cage-nut-lower-fender-mounting-at-rocker-panel/167558?backurl=search%2Fproducts%3Fsearch_terms%3DLower%252Bfender%252Bnut%26top_parent%3D200001%26year%3D1966&year=1966

    back about the mid 80s repo fenders were awful . I had one that was 9/16 of a inch short. The E coat did not exist on them, hot water would almost wash it off. Those had to taken to metal and epoxy for corrosion protection. Corners usually had to have weld added on to the ends...some repo fenders today still do. I have had striker bolts soooo tite I have had to heat them from inside the quarter window and get them red hot....if they were not red hot they would not back out.

      This gives the basic frame measurements. Keep in mind Ford had variances of +/- 1/16 to 1/8 inch. I'd shoot for exact.

      No. But weirdly a '66 Fairlane fender will bolt right up.

  • @arcorob
    @arcorob Před 6 lety +2

    Great video but let me offer you a TIP...You locked down the back pretty much and they tried to work the front...well, you know those two front bolts that sit by the headlight indent ? They are used to FLEX the fender,,,In other words, they are a pivot point...move them like a PIVOT and the fender FLEXES the opposite way in the back. So by example
    If your LOWER back edge was sticking out too much, natural tendency is to PUSH the lower back edge in as hard as you can you get it to alight which might cause other issues. Now , from the FRONT, pivot the fender where I said and watch the back rear go in or out as you choose. Hey, not me, got it from a great Video Mustang guy here on youtube (Jo Daddy)

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks for the tips! We'll apply that. We don't really lock it down, we will leave it slideable, and moveable. Probably didn't come across on video.

      Maybe you can help me or point me. I am restoring a 66 coupe and NOWHERE does anyone show those front bars that stick out from the frame (looks like a T that been bent). One on each side ...nor have I seen anyone attach the hood latch assembly ...I have seen fenders, grilles, valences,,,..But nothing on these? How about a demo...I know they exist :-)

      I would first try and find good used ones. Then fall back to the aftermarkets. Most suppliers stock the repops

  • @biastv1234
    @biastv1234 Před 3 lety

    In Australia repop parts are the same , you just have to work them till they fit, cars up to the 90s never had the panel gaps we expect these days. And it’s better to have a poor fitting part than none at all.
