    Another vote for a fender episode. You can run up to Raleigh and help me out on my 67 this weekend...like wrestling an octopus. As one area falls into place...another falls out...

    I won’t even tell you what I had to do to my R model valence to fit my POS 66 mustang way back in the day!
    Also, glad to see that is Chevy guys aren’t the only ones having problems having aftermarket parts fit!

    One of the reasons I enjoy the show so much is that you guys have to suffer through the same stuff the rest of us do. Apart from the always useful information, one of the most consistent messages I get is, "don't worry, it's not just you or your car, there's no secret here, you're gonna have to fit and fiddle."
    Doing a more detailed episode on getting fender and body alignment right would be awesome. Because, after all, the gap you can get at the doors has to be mirrored at the fenders and the hood unless you want your car to look mugged.

      Thanks! We try to convey that you can do it. The difference between a professional and "the rest of us" is they know how to hide mistakes. LOL.

      Yes. We are working on getting the brakes for he car. Possibly Mustang Steve's kit. BUT that requires a wheel change. So we are still thinking.

      We hear ya. Some shoots would be a lot easier for sure (Transmission, Exhaust, Suspension etc.). We're working on getting one, but a lift is sometimes out of reach for our viewers so we have been a little loath to do it. BUT we're getting close!

  • @sacooper802

    best situation is to start with OEM or Ford tooling fenders and OEM headlight buckets and Cobra Automotive Shelby R model apron. I know the OEM fenders and buckets are hard to find but at least consider the Cobra Automotive apron, its what all the Shelby vintage racers and Shelby open track racing circuits across america use. you cant beat race proven parts. I believe NPD sells Fiberglass Specialties brand Aprons.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 7 lety

      OEM is great, but even over here in the south, they are HARD to find. thanks for the heads up on the Cobra Automotive part!

  • @charlieharris9370
    @charlieharris9370 Před 6 lety +1

    From all the pictures I've seen, it appears that vertical lip on the apron is supposed to go behind the headlight. No trimming should be needed.

  • @Fordman7575
    @Fordman7575 Před 7 lety

    I would have made much thicker backing plates. And welding the nuts to the backing plates make life a whole lot easier.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 7 lety

      We said that we would recommend that you go with a thicker plate (16 gauge over our 20). Welding the nuts would reduce the "wiggle room" that you have with your nuts being loose...

    • @Fordman7575
      @Fordman7575 Před 7 lety +1

      Even 16 gauge is a little on the light side. If you can bend it by hand then it can distort when you tighten the mounting hardware. It is called a backing plate not a backing sheet.:D And if you weld the nuts to the plates you just make the mounting holes in the valance slightly larger. That allows more adjustment of the panel without the hassle of trying to start the bolts whiling fighting with the valance, backing plates and loose nuts. But whatever, that's the nice thing about this hobby. There is more then one way to accomplish the same goals.

    @anomamos9095 Před 7 lety

    This is some slight wrong advice. You should offer the part up and if something interferes with it sitting right if possible remove the thing that interferes and offer it up again to ensure it will fit at all before you do any cutting as you may have the wrong part and you can't return something you've cut! Also you may get a better sense of where and how much to cut.
