It is harder to monetize good old fashioned knowledge like this without pimping products. You are right though good info. I have been shooting precision rifle since my time as a Marine and once a year I go back to the basics and I spend time practicing the fundamentals and even do the nerd move of sitting in my hard ensuring my positions are sound. IT is a good way to ensure you don't keep enforcing bad habits. I usually when the weather isn't great. Although living in Miami now it is hard to have a bad day here.

I know this an old video. And an excellent one that helped me out immensely. But one more thing to help with adjustment that I found with my scope is to make sure you mount your rings in the correct relation to each other and the scope to give you maximum movement forward and back. I mounted mine too close together and could never get that perfect setup until I changed the mounting points on the rifle. I hope this helps someone as it was very frustrating!! Thank you Ryan, again....for you this great video!!!

Ryan, your video is worth its weight in gold! I'm in the process of putting together a gun/scope combination that will help me achieve my goal of shooting accurately at 1000 yards plus. Yours is the best video on scope mounting I've ever seen. Thanks to you, I am finally able to take my position behind the scope in complete and consistent comfort. Thus far I've only practiced at home, but I'm really looking forward to getting out to the range and putting a properly set up rifle into practice. Thanks for solving a problem that has nagged me for a long time. I plan to study your additional videos on MOA and ballistics. Keep up the great work!

    Ranger Cleckner,
Your actions for a successful scope setup are clear and copyable. Your tone and completeness in this video combined with your other videos and the Long Range Shooting Handbook are a superb start to setting up and mounting my new scope and first rifle.
I'll follow your advice fully and involve the expert hands, eyes, and mind of the owner of the tactical optics store.
You can be sure I'll forward your video links to him for his future assistance to many.
Thank you also for referring us to the WhereToShoot, org site for locations for testing. As I live in the state of California where nearly every facet of life is regulated and watched by an ever-growing bureau, your list makes easy discovery of shooting practice places and like-minded, responsible people.
Other videos I have watched regarding rifle optics selection, setup, mounting, and use have flooded us observers with undefined jargon and the acronyms. Rather than your mission being to prove your superiority and savvy with many years of expertise, you coax us through and around the barriers ill-defined jargon. You are the teacher of teachers with rationale ("the WHY?") and core values laid bare for us to adopt what is the way of long range thinking and shooting.
Thank you for bringing the effective humility of a leader-teacher into a topic and skill usually dominated by pomposity and veiled humiliation in an effort to appear "greater than" or "more valuable than" us beginners and intermediates.
    Stephen

Good info, but one of the best things to align scopes on big calibers is a simple piece of wire taped straight up-and-down to the butt recoil pad (if it is an OEM screw-on piece). Personally, I had a machine shop drill a metal duplicate that had the hole in the top of the butt pad, so I could place an alignment wire there. The reason I say this, is that I have fired large magnums for years, my favorite is the .300 Win Mag, which has such recoil (with custom loads) that it will shift a scope that is not fully affixed (or just cream a cheap optic with recoil damage). With stock-alignment, you won't get 'mount torque creep', or can compensate for it if you see it. The 'rotated scope' that everyone hates (and that will throw off long-range dope) is easily a thing of the past with realizing that you are fighting the scope's alignment to the stock, moreso than the receiver or barrel.

Thank you for this explanation, I work at a range and have constantly have people come in with new weapons and scopes telling me they are bore sighted. We immediately have them go to 25 yards to sight in. It is amazing how poorly they are bore sighted from the store. This will help the new shooters get close to the bulls eye that much quicker.

This is the best scope mounting video I've seen. The most information in the fewest words. Thank you.

Very good instructor, gives very good detail, military taught, great for us, for those that never mount a scope before can do so at least they have been shown an taught the correct way, of coarse there is always those in every class believe they don't need instruction, I have mounted 100's in my life time and enjoyed watching. One thing I've learned eyes, see differently, I always level as much as possible, then look through right handed and left handed if the cross hair is not level for me anyway it will show up during this test, throw it up fast like taking a fast shot check on being level then change side. thanks I enjoyed

I should'nt be surprised at your ability to continue to impress me with your talents and successes, but again you have outdone yourself. I thought I knew how to mount and fit a rifle to my needs but wow, I am now confident that your instructions will benefit many in the shooting world. Good job.

Best explanation of proper scope/eye level/ relaxed head resting to maximize consistency.
I have shot very well but notice absolutely incredible results on all shots including running with one gun in particular.
    Thanks Ryan!
