The secret side to The Netherlands: Ukranian art, exquisite interior design, antiques and cocktails!

- I had intended this week’s vlog to be short, having been away and enjoying the Hague but now I can see that’s not the case at all! And it’s good! Be prepared for tears early on as we hear the heart rendering story of Pavlo, an artist who produced sculptures from sea rock of the Crimea, at a time of peace in Ukraine. We also get to visit Vanessa’s Interior Design studio at the incredible De Twee Pauwen art gallery just a few yards from the palace of the king and queen of The Netherlands, not to mention discovering some fine antiques, wine and cocktails in Holland! And to complete today’s vlog, we are at last back at the Magical Modernist Mansion with Ollie to enjoy the delights of the Fiesta Major of Sant Pere de Ribes.

Your interview with the Ukrainian sculptor was heart wrenching. Sadly will that beautiful country and its people ever be the same again? I like how you filmed each antique piece slowly and with such precise description. You picked pieces that were exquisite. Your modernist mansion seems to be in the centre of great festival activity. Such a bonus to live at the center of all the parades, music and dancing.

Camilla, Congratulations on a wonderful interview. The Gallery Owner was very sensitive to the possible views of others. The Artist and lovely translator were terrific. The origin story of his pieces determined by nature was so interesting. I commend him for continuing to produce lovely art, while the land was/is in upheaval.
Then, you treated us to the gorgeous interiors atelier. The alabaster light was simple and spectacular. The larger of the round cushion I’d use for a footstool. Everything was so well displayed. It wasn’t crammed in, so possible to see so many spectacular pieces.

I have a painting done by a Ukrainian painter, so colorful and full of natural beauty. I love the clean look of the furniture and the use of wood and textile....then there's there's color! I want that light shown early in the clog!

I really love your vlogs: I get something out of them about history, art, special and beautiful places to go. I like the respect you give to shop owners asking them, whether you may film.
It makes me wanting to visit these places. I find it very informative, that Camilla shows us the brochante/antique shop and talks about age and prices of the furniture. I say, very well done. First choice to watch out of my abos.
...and I missed to say: the end was quite spectacular and fun with all these jumping, dancing folks and hilarious puppet, especially the short ones...

The Art Gallery was just filled with fabulous art that I loved and yes Pavlo the artist's story was touching and heart breaking. It was a wonderful trip and town, thanks for sharing. The ending was exciting with the street fair and people dancing.

This was very interesting and the artist’s story was very moving. I absolutely loved Nessy’s studio and all of the lovely items in it. The art work on the walls was right up my alley. You are so unbelievably lucky to have so many wonderful events right there on the square! There may have been some impressive dragons in the parade, but I am certain that the people at the event would have been awed by the ones welcoming guests into your home.

I love the Netherlands (made up from 11 small 'countries') and used to go there every year. My sister used to live in Rotterdam and on visiting her we visited the Hague and Delft and Amsterdam. One of my best friends is from Zeeland and I used to stay with him in Amsterdam every year, usually when the canals were frozen! Funny story when he moved to Eindhoven I went to stay with him and he wasn't at the station to meet me and not having his adress or phone (pre mobile phone) I had to wait unti after work to call my BF and ask for it. I began walking around to pass the time and chose one direction because it looked prettier and after about an hour I walked down a pretty street and stopped outside a house and out came my friends little brother ! I had accidentally found his house and Eindhoven is BIG !
Wonderful art and I loved the antique boutique. The festival at the end looks amazing. It reminds me of the one in the bank robbery film, but I can't remember the name of it! Thank you for the video. Have an amazing week! I hope the renovation permits are approved soon!

I enjoyed the art and the Ukrainian artist's backstory.
St. Germaine liquor is exceptional, but a bit expensive, so I opt for St. Ides at half the price, but just as good and a definite cost saver in a cocktail. St. Ides comes in grapefruit and blood orange in addition to the original elderberry.

Nothing to do with this Vlog but I thought I’d share something I just recently read about. I tried it before telling you. This is in regards to your pigeon problem. What I tried really works. Spray WD-40 where they like to perch - they hate the smell. I presume one has to do a repeat spray but I liked this solution as it was so easy. They flapped about but didn’t settle and after a few days I think they got the idea!

Hola Camilla and Ollie, Camilla, my heart breaks for Ukraine, the pictures you inserted are just beautiful. I pray peace will come soon to the beautiful people of Ukraine. I love the 650 euros, chandelier better than the 3800 euros, and it's not the price, it's the chandelier, it is so beautiful. Almost like less is more. It reminds me of a Murano. I am so happy, you said the upholstered chairs were in good shape, I love the sage green color, (that is the color that came a crossed my computer) so if I am wrong, I thought they were beautiful as they are. Ollie looked like he was having a blast at home. Thank you, Camilla for our Netherlands outing, it was a real treat. love from N.Y.

Paleis Noordeinde is not really the main residence of the king and queen of the Netherlands but rather a work palace They live in Paleis Huis ten Bosch also in the Hague but a different paleis=palace
Hi Camilla & Ollie, Loved the tour of The Hague and especially the hotels and the brocante. Though the crystal chandelier was quite expensive the mirrors was definitely affordable. I did like the bronze deco looking chandelier, a good possibility for your Mansion. Of course, any antique shop or brocante holds great interest for me. Mark & Scott

This is not the residence of the King but he works here. This is Noordeinde palace. He lives with his family in the Huis ten Bosch palace which is located outside Den Haag in a wooden area. None of the reigning monarchs lived in Noordeinde palace. And in the evening most residents close their curtains except if you live very high up.
This was an art eye opener. The art is incredible. The festival looked so much fun. The shop had so many lovely things. ❤
The antique shop was so wonderful. The only thing that would stop me from buying everything in the shop would be the lack of money $$$$😀🇨🇦

A carpet is fitted wall to wall of the entire room were as a rug comes in different sizes for an area of the room👍🏼
