- The 2013 Royal Variety Performance featured Dame Edna, The Prince of Wales, and The Duchess of Cornwall. I have never seen the royals appear so fearful - I've seen Edna perform in person, and if she looks at you, you should be very cautious. Don't let the gladioli distract you possums.
I’ve lost count of the times that I’ve watched this clip and I never stop smiling when I watch it.
I do the same just for a quickie - A quick 45-second laugh is a perfect endorphin hit and I forget the real world lol for a moment.....
Me too 😊
It's never not funny
Snap
Me too, what a classic.
Someone who was literally on for a few seconds and yet in that time through his aka Dame Edna's mannerisms had the audience with Camilla and Charles in hysterics finishing off with the final punchline. Mark of a true genius of which we will never see again. Barry Humphries, much missed!
True, managed to get ppl laughing in just 48 seconds

Only Dame Edna could have pulled that one off with a one-liner! Comedy gold!
"They found me a better seat" 😂😂😂 just great, gorgeous!
R.I.P. Barry ❤
The only line said was unexpected, which made the joke even funnier.

master of punchlines
Our King and Queen looked SO happy here enjoying a genuine laugh! Thanks to Dame Edna!
I thought this exact same thing! This was truly enjoyable to watch and I ❤ them for it.
My absolute favourite comedy sketch, and the King and Queens reaction plays its part. Comedy gold RIP BH
I just love Charles’s reaction. He appears to be a real fan. Great video.
This is a classic. It can never age. RIP Comic genius.
There will never be another one like Dame Edna absolutely brilliant ❤
He first appeared as Edna in the film "Bunyip" (1970), and since that year, up until now, there is still nobody has come close to that brilliance.
The Adventures of Barry McKenzie (1972) - is perhaps most famous for one of its final scenes where then Australian Prime Minister 'Gough Whitlam' makes a cameo appearance and makes Edna Everage a Dame, so from then on ', A Dame is Born, Dame Edna.
The yardstick of comedy. No one ever came close. RIP.
What a truly brilliant line. "They've found me a better seat, I'm sorry." Just brilliant.
Apparently Barry was pretty good friends with Charles and in fact Charles spoke to Barry on the phone when he was in hospital shortly before he passed😢
I read this week, in a new book about the king, that when he heard Barry Humphries was ill, the king called him, having checked time differences. Humphries died two days later.
Reading this choked me, maybe I remembered this clip. Either way RIP Bazza
One of the great comedic minds of all time.
Dame Edna is the diva of all divas.
What’s great about this moment? Charles is laughing so hard, that Edna almost cracks up.
“Oh. I’m so sorry. They’ve found me a better seat.”
And she just leaves. I can’t. I wish Barry Humphries could have lived forever.
This comedy line, will live in my head forever.
Dame Edna wasn't just "the diva of all divas" or a "mega-star." She was the world's first (albeit self-proclaimed) "giga-star"!
This Dame is genuinely a master of comedy! She made it seem so effortless, but I know it's not easy to make an entire crowd burst with laughter just by using mannerisms and not even saying a word. Her unexpected final line was the cherry on top! Even the royals couldn't contain themselves and were laughing out loud. The King has such a great sense of humour, it's nice to see it come out occasionally. Being in such a high-status position, he probably can't let it shine as often as he would like. And it's heartwarming to see that the Queen is such a good sport too. They both clearly had a great time!
Few performers could get away with this. Dame Edna is an icon. And yes I know it's a man in a dress but the character was just incredible. A truly unique creation that made a mark upon the world.
God bless Dame Edna.
Am man in a dress? Were you referring to Dame Edna or Camilla?
A man in a dress? What are you talking about?

I know it's hard to believe but Dame Edna was a man playing a wonderful character.
It took me some time to appreciate that fact. I imagine you will also need some time to adjust to the reality.
Excuse you… Dame Edna had a son 😮😅😂
@@user-ys7pj5nb1d
Yes and?
Thiry seconds long and one of the most if not THE most hysterically funny bits EVER.
Hear, hear. The dame makes her grand entrance, gets pulled back down to earth and then spins it as she departs. Only Edna and only Sir Barry Humphries.
Rip Barry. We'll miss you
I had never seen this before. Few words but so so funny. RIP dear Edna. x
I can watch this clip over and over
Every time I watch this I laugh so hard. What a gem, he was.😂
Never gets old. Love this bit and the gracious good humour of His and Her Majesty.
They found me a better seat. What a line.😂😂😂
Yes and the King and Queen are so genuine in their enjoyment of the monent.Memories are priceless.
Sadly missed, absolute genius
I can watch this clip over and over Charles was laughing 😂😂😂😂😂
The only interviewer who always upstaged their guest.
This will never get old 😂 Dame Edna ❤ i really do miss u
Simple comedy, executed brilliantly.
Flipping genius.
Rest in paradise, possums.
🇦🇺🦘🌏❤
I can't stop watching this pure gold, and charles and camilla are perfect ❤ their laughter so genuine and dame Edna you will never be forgotten ❤️ Charles and Camilla a match made in heaven ❤️
Another great Australian that has left us, may he rest in peace😢
I could watch this over and over and nevercget tired of it. It still makes me laugh
I loved him as Dame Edna! And smart..as Edna she could say anyting!😂
This clip is funnier than a lot of sitcoms put together. Here’s the poem I wrote when Dame Edna passed
On her guests, she’d slap a badge
At her side
Her bridesmaid Madge
Housewife
Icon
Megastar
Grandest of the dames by far
That lilac hair
Her dazzling frocks
She even crashed the Royal Box
For sixty years
We watched you blossom
Now you’ve carked it
Goodbye, possum
x
Rip and thankyou for the fun
This will NEVER get old. 6 words. 😂😂😂
Only Dame Edna could have pulled that off
& she did wonderfully!
Rip Barry Humphries & I feel so privileged that I met you.
Thank you for so much joy
Love & best wishes Faith ⭐️♥️⭐️🎶
2023 just televised in Zimbabwe. This was pure humour, what i have just watched is absolute tripe.
Sheer prefection 😂... no one done it better than a Dame.🇬🇧
I love that clip so much, I have watched it many times🤣💖
Ditto. Brilliantly hilarious!
i love this very funny and charming clip so much🙏🏻❤️
I love this clip !!!!!!!! I really miss Dame Edna. Love her still.❤❤❤❤❤
Watched this loads of times, love how Prince Charles laughs!!
A REAL comedic genius , with razor sharp wit ! Very sadly missed .......
Absolutely Sensational Performer . Just ❤❤❤ how Charles & Camilla are laughing heartily at Edna . Obviously they have a Fabulous Sense of Humour 😅
The royal family, especially the late Queen Elizabeth II and her mother, were reportedly big fans of Barry Humphries 🙂.
The king sent a message of condolence to Barry’s family.
This is SO SO brilliant !!!!!🤣🤣🤣
A man in drag who doesnt offend..just makes you laugh out loud at social absurdities ...without causing those on the receiving end to consult lawyers or howl disapproval
First time l have seen this, being Canadian. Priceless!!!👍🏻😄
🎄Merry🎄 Christmas 🎄to all my Commonwealth cousins and all who read this. ☮️Peace ☮️In ☮️The☮️ World ☮️For☮️2024☮️🕊️.

Simple but impactful
Dame Edna says 9 words and the whole audience is in creases. Sometimes with genius less is more
😂 Charles and Camilla enjoyed the humour. Another fine entertainer now gone.
Just about the funniest gag, ever!!
You just can't help laughing every time you see this.😂
First time i see this. Awesome. 😂
Greetings with a big smile on my face from The Netherlands 😂😂😂
Shock treatment great film Barry was brilliant 😂
So wonderfully funny every time I watch this short video. ❤
Simply wonderful clip. King C laughing all the way
All of the "performers" in this skit are spot on, but Dame Edna's timing and expressions are priceless.
It is brilliant. Can’t help laughing every time I see it
This is such an expertly crafted and timed joke.
Oh, Possums....I'm laughing so hard, I bet Barry can hear me.
Now , that is funny !! I can't stop laughing !!
Rest in peace possum. ❤️
Just perfect comedy timing , knowing how much he was liked by the Royal family i bet he'd have got away with this stunt had the late Queen been there .
God bless u dame edna xx
💐 RIP Dame Edna 🌹
I love how King Charles is literally howling with laughter 😂
He not only found Dame Edna absolutely hilarious, he GENUINELY respected Humphries as well.
@@tulinfirenze1990 I've read that they were very good friends, and if I've got it right, The King was actually on the phone to BH a day or so before he passed away. His Majesty has immaculate taste both in his friends and in his comedy!
@@iwasglad122 This is what the media was reporting - I have no reason to doubt it. Dame Edna and the loathsome Sir Les aside, Humphries was an erudite and highly intelligent man who was well-read and knew how to comport himself at all levels of society. I'm sure he and then Prince Charles would have spent lots of time talking about all manner of interesting topics.
@@iwasglad122He guested in a performance by the Goons.
Absolutely Priceless!!! 🤙❤️❣️
Priceless
Priceless!
I miss her terribly 😢❤
A once-in-a-lifetime talent... RIP
Absolute gold.
He's lovely . Miss Dame Edna and Barry alot.
Every month or so, I watch this again. Only Dame Edna could get away with it😂😂
Say what you want about the Royal family, but most of them can take a joke - even at their own expense. The Queen was well known for her sense of humour in private life and was evidently a fan of Dame Edna, which makes sense given the number of events/performances she was involved in. As for Charles & Camilla, although clearly being surprised by it, loved it as much or even more than the rest of the audience did. You can tell a lot about someone from how they act in such situations.
Priceless ❤
Love this! God save the new King and Queen!
Watching the coronation cemented my belief in the couple that looked so regal and much more. Charles was humble and appreciative of his new role with the Queen looking on, the twinkle of love in her eyes..... The balcony wave and our newly anointed King and Queen were emotional and I loved the connection the King had with people, genuine love and he didn't want to get off that balcony.... lol - touching.
@@Neo.Altair Hear, hear! We're actually seeing a more emotional Charles, since he has become king. It REALLY suits him.
She is not the Queen, she is Queen Consort, two completely different things.
He was so good.
King Charlie actually has a great sense of humour, trouble is he’s always been restrained due to his station in life.
The King is incredibly jolly in private and occasionally in public but, as you said, restrained for apparent reasons - his other admirable trait is that he doesn't follow the current trend or movement but instead creates a direction or motion by sharing his real true interests. He has been a stalwart defender of classical architecture and the conservation of London's traditional built environment, dwarfed in the post-World War Two skyscraper building boom. He did all this back when it wasn't popular, or people didn't care too much that he was ridiculed - Now it's the modern way of life to conserve your history and grow your own food, which he has done for decades... A futuristic visionary he is.
@@Neo.Altair So true. I recalled the time the media were giving him a hard time due to the story that went around that he conversed with his plants.
He gave a speech some time later where he sent himself up by saying that he asked his Roses their opinion :)
🥺🥺Miss you
RIP Dame
Hahahahaha.....love it!!!!soooo funny!!!... " Hello" from the Netherlands
Thanks Hans - and Hello from the land down under lol - She is hilarious and quick witted but not afraid to say most things and ruffle a few feathers.... Cheers Neo

This is classic 😊
Brilliant
Fantastico... Saluti dall Italia ❤😂
What a legend she was! I love this clip😅❤
Over they years I have watched so many female impersonators, but I have to say there are many differences in the quality of entertainment value and like or appreciation of the audience. Dame Edna was brilliant, razor sharp sarcasm-whit but never ever the mean or cruel vitriol of some present day drag queens. The icons like Dame Edna, Danny La Rue, Craig Russel, Charles Pierce will live on in our memories for the joy they brought to us. There are others who are waiting in the wings, but the real icons are the ones of class not the ones who are crass and crude or cruel by finding a victim in their audience to belittle or humiliate to get laughs.
What a talent.
"They've found me a better seat" that line crowned the whole thing, wonderful.
6 words and the audience erupts. Great stuff
The brilliant part of this moment is that Dame sits and settles in on the chair as if she is staying and looks towards the stage as if saying go on, carry on, don't mind me. 😉 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂
Just pure class, a simple one line, funny as ..... RIP.
This still makes me laugh. The King and Queen thoroughly enjoyed the humor of Dame Edna. Barry (Dame Edna), you are gone but not forgotten. 🙌⚘️
I reckon Lizzie would have enjoyed that prank herself.
Comedic genius always makes me laugh. If you want another real laugh with Sir Les Patterson just search for 'Les Patterson gave his wife a dog',it has me in tears every time.
comedy gold.......
Still laugh at this. So funny
Simply The best !😂😂😂
Absolutely flipping fantastic 😂😂😂
He is a master of comedy, and to crack everyone up in 45 seconds and a handful of words, he's a genius...
Such talent, played with such good taste.
That one is priceless they do enjoy a good laugh as did the Queen
I'm sure they were in on it, but it's still so funny
