    Thanks! I have a nice down comforter.. but when it needed cleaning I thought that down couldn't be washed so took it to a dry cleaner. They didn't even want to do it, and charged me an arm and a leg, and when I got it back I wrapped it well and stored it; I haven't had the desire to go through that again! Now I feel I can put it in a duvet cover and actually use it, knowing I can wash it when needed.

    Thank you for making this video!! I finally bought a down alternative duvet for about $75 a few months ago. It’s the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought for my bed and I’ve been so scared to wash it because I was worried it’d get all clumpy, not dry right, and not be soft anymore. I wonder why they don’t put a little paper with instructions in the packaging?

    Hi there! I am not sure if you guys will see this comment in time, but long story short I bought a used down comforter in great condition. I of course wanted to wash it, so I washed it with warm water in a at home machine. When I took it out, it smelled like wet dog. It was in the dryer all day long and it still smelled awful. I rushed it to the dry cleaners! After having it dry cleaned, it did not smell at first. Then I laid it out all day on a drying rack, to let it breathe and that awful smell came back.
    Tomorrow morning, I plan to take it to the laundry mat and do exactly what your video said to do. I am thinking I should add two cups of white vinegar along with the bleach. I read that vinegar helps with mildew. I am worried that this comforter is ruined and mildew is starting to grow within the feathers. I am at a loss. Do you think this comforter is done for?
    I appreciate any feedback you have!
    Thank you,
    Sydney

    • @Verolinens
      @Verolinens  Před 4 lety

      Sorry that you are having this issue. Vinegar is a great cleaner and is gentle on the down. I might try that 1st. If this doesn't take care of the odor, try the bleach. As we have noted bleach can be a little hard on the cotton shell and the down, but it is an effective sanitizer.

    I bought a new down comforter but forget to lay it out for several hours to let it fluff up and instead used it almost straight away that night. It's still flat. Will this tennis ball trick and drying it work?

    • @Verolinens
      @Verolinens  Před 3 lety

      You comforter may not have a lot of down in it. You don't need to lay it on the bed to bring loft in it, just grab it my an edge and vigorously shake it. If that doesn't bring air back into it, your comforter doesn't have enough down in it to provide loft. If it is keeping you sufficiently warm, your all set. If not, you may want to ensure your next one has more down.

    I don’t know if your still active on CZcams but I’m at boyfriends house, he has a down comforter and I spilled ecig juice on it. It’s like an oil. I dabbed a little laundry detergent on it, let it sit, then I scrubbed it and really massaged in the detergent. and rinsed with water but because the comforter is dark grey I can’t tell if I got the stain out. The water made it dark and the water spread so now the water spot is about a foot long. I’m hoping I got the stain out and I’m drying the comforter in a dryer on low heat. It’s a small dryer but since it’s only one spot I’m hoping that it’s okay. Please help me or reply!!! He just got it dry cleaned and spent all this money and I don’t want him to come home and see I left a giant stain. I just want to know if there’s anything else I should be doing!

      I prefer an acidic wash like hair shampoo plus peroxide (3-1/2 percent). That plus the warm water plus the dryer heat is going to get rid of mites. You can also run the comforter through a medium dryer BEFORE you wash it to kill mites.

      Bleach is hard on cotton and down as we explained, however if you are washing the comforter once a year, we think you should be ok.
