    Capping FPS is GOOD if you can go well past the refresh rate of the screen. This will leave GPU resources free for load spikes and keeps latency lower. If the GPU is pegged at 100% and needs more you get lag and latency spikes. In my case, I have a 120hz screen. Limit it to that and iracing uses 60-80% of my 4080 depending on tracks and car count. Buttery smooth and responsive at all times.

    Very helpful thank you! I don’t play iRacing but…. My frame rate went from 65-72 fps to straight out flat 90 fps steady and consistent, in dirt rally 2.0 in VR! (reverb g2) AND I turned all my graphics up in the game that I had sacrificed before just to get a steady and less choppy experience. Awesome video I will share with my rally friends. I’m on the Rex 3090 😅

    I have one question... Im running iRacing with a rtx4070 with i5 13600kf in triple monitor (60 hz, I know its not ideal). Im running iRacing between 300/400 fps, and my graphics card is always close to 100% usage, but the temp is never more than 50ºC. Its good to have the GPU always running at 98/99/100% usage, or its dangerous and can cause damage to the GPU ?

    How do these Nvidia settings relate to live streaming and using OBS studio at the same time? will it tax the GPU more when you have OBS running for a live stream?

    • @BenFilley
      @BenFilley Před rokem +1

      the short answer, yes. there are ways to minimize the drop though. easiest way is have a 2nd pc and run the stream over your network to the 2nd system via NDI plugin inside obs. it grabs the frame buffer and ships it over ethernet at insane quality for so little of a hit to your performance its kinda silly. but it definitely requires a 2nd computer to do it. its how i am able to stream/record in vr using the quest 2. the effect is the same though, it takes less than 1% of your performance from the main system, and offloads the actual encoding/streaming burden to a second system. vs taking (my experience personally) up to 20% of your performance, and still having stutters in the stream under heavy gaming loads. NDI and a 2nd system completely eliminated all my stuttering on stream, and gained me back a lot of lost performance vs not streaming. hope that all makes sense. the short, get ndi plugin for obs and a cheap second system to offload the burden.

    • @adamthompson8432
      @adamthompson8432 Před rokem

      So I read you last sentence and was wonder, how big or cheap of a computer I need just to stream with as a second computer. How cheap can you go and would a laptop work? Just curious. Would you mind posting a link to a cheap second computer that you would buy yourself to use for streaming. Thank you!

    • @BenFilley
      @BenFilley Před rokem

      @@adamthompson8432 I personally use a laptop as my streaming system. It’s using an i5 6 core cpu and a gtx 1650 max q gpu. It’s plenty for a 10mbps stream at 1080p. I paid $550usd for mine at my local Walmart 2 years ago, and you can likely find something second hand for a lot less. Basically anything with 4 cores and hyper threading, and anything 1650 max q or higher for the gpu.

    • @brandonpowellsimracing8005
      @brandonpowellsimracing8005 Před rokem

      My recommendation is a 3080.
      I currently use a 2080 (MSI Gaming X Trio 8GB) at that resolution and it gets the job done (CPU: 8700K, RAM: 16GB 3500Mhz DDR4). Running 4x FXAA and tweaking several settings I got it running between 100 to 140 FPS (about 125 avg.) on all road tracks tested so far (Suzuka, RBRing, Nordschliefe, Long Beach) and it looks great and runs silky smooth. A 3080 would definitely help to keep it pinned at 140 FPS, but I don't think the extra VRAM in the 3090 will be that useful, and a 4090 for that resolution is overkill.
      I would only get a 4090 if I planned to upgrade my triples to 1440p; it was made for higher than 4K pixel counts, which Triple 1440p is.

  • @rjy87
    @rjy87 Před rokem +3

    A max frame rate can be useful to help games run smoother or in the gsync or freesync range of your monitor. It can also save gpu power. I have a 120 hz gysnc monitor and it works best limited to 116 so that it doesnt go out of range.

    The problem with changing SYSTEM settings in the Nvidia control panel is that you're impacting the performance of every game played on the system. Some of us use a single gaming machine for multiple purposes, and the changes you've suggested turning off in the NVIDIA Control Panel will cause issues.

    • @insidethreewide7133
