ACDC blew everyone away that day . Made the stones look like a pub band.
stones have become a pub band , slop wankers
I was there too, and it wasn't even close. I left that show thinking "The Rolling... who?" This was the best live performance I have ever seen and AC/DC are Rock GODS and nobody will ever be able to convince me otherwise.
@@brianglassey1537 I was 10 at the time and I remember them the best

Did this CZcamsr edit this with the original album version???? This live performance sounds to crisp to be live…..either this CZcamsr messed with the track ORRRRRR AC/DC were lip singing here !!!?????!!!!!🤔🤨🧐🙇♂️
@@CONCERNEDcitizenforever what tf are you talking about, this totally sounds live, I was at this show, they weren't lip synching, its ACDC, they always put on a great show, are you new ?? Obviously you've never heard the studio version, its clearly not the same

20 years ago I was at this concert 🇨🇦 scorching hot day in that field, AC/DC, Rush, BTO, Guess Who, Rolling Stones, unforgettable concert !!
Did guess who still have all original members
When I heard AC/DC were doing this....for free...had to take a day off and go. Blew the Stones away. Incredible show. Thanx boys✌🇨🇦🤘
It was a LONG frigging day, but getting to see them LIVE was worth it, especially when the stones were late and AC/DC got to play another hr.
If my boss did not give me the day off I would have quit my job to go.
@@AnnaLVajda was totally worth it.
@@mazx I Bet the Stones wished they never showed up after Ac/Dc was done. Start me up seemed like a joke after Ac/Dc brought the house down.
@@loveistheanswer8137 It was a FREE concert, everyone basically had fun, and while I loved AC/DC The Stones were good too, even in Mick left Keith in Charge for like an hr. lol
Was there with friends. AC/DC blew everyone away! We didn't even stay to see the Stones! Great day had by all!
The biggest concert I've ever or will ever attend!
My heart skipped a beat when I saw the extent of the crowd. Imagine if you were one of the boys looking out at that?? Wow! They never had that in Oz. We don't have enough people, but we adore these rock God's!
That's half a million people after baking in July heat all day I was in that crowd.
100,000
Still hard to believe I was lucky enough to be in the crowd that day. 17 years old and I knew it would be one of the top concerts I have ever been to. What a day.
Geez, this concert was POWERFUL!!!
The impact of the crowd on the song was SO GREAT!!

They weren't my favorite band, that hot ass day in that old airport field changed my view on live music forever, best live hour and a half of music I'd ever seen, 19 yrs later, still is, best 16 dollars ever spent
I've seen them live 7 or 8 times. They never disappoint. Always a great show.
I was there you can hear AC/DC for 5 miles I lived at Jane and Exbury we walked through the Dells to the park what a day AC/DC owned that show
Yes they did!! One of the best shows I've ever been to hands down.
There was a radio station that was broadcasting it live. Still remember listening to it that day off and on.
The most intense part of the most amazing concert ive ever been to in my life!
I was there too--it was one of the best days of my life!
Umm...Rush was better.
@@makeitcount179Cool, nobody cares

I lived under a km from Downsview Park where this concert was, hoards of people walking down my street from around North America, the ground shook all day, made me so proud to be Canadian.
The greatest rock n roll band ever has to be ACDC. Period.
Malcolm, even though you are not here physically you will always be with us mentally. And in spirit definitely. You were and still are definitely one of the greatest rhythm guitar players that ever lived.
Imagine the stones backstage hearing AC/DC and thinking , boys we are fucked
I love how AC/DC transcends though generations and I hope their music will still be played for many more.
I was there with my buddies. Best concert I've ever been to by far. Hard to believe it was 20 years ago now!

There was at least 20 bands there that day. Music went from 10 am till midnight.
Such an amazing concert! AC/DC killed it!!!!
I had the privilege to be at this concert. I was 18. Flew out from the west coast. Rocked so hard. So good.
I was front row, left speaker stack all day. The crowd was exhausted when the Stones were done, but after this they were back to 11!

God I remember that day. AC/DC took the wind out of the Rolling Stones sails. It was teh Rolling Stones idea this benefit concert, yet it was AC/DC that stole the show. Live and on TV. What a Band.
I live in BC...im proud that they did this in Canada.....look at that sea of people.....just WOW.
The story of how Brian Johnson became the frontman is so fascinating to me because it’s almost FATE.
Before Bon Scott joined up with the Young brothers to form AC/DC he was in a band called Fraternity.
Brian was in a band called Geordie who had a couple of top 40 hits in the UK.
When Fraternity was touring Great Britain they had a gig where they were opening for Geordie. When Brian and his fellow band mates arrived they suited up and performed their set. Well, midway through a song Brian collapsed on his back and was flailing around; apparently having been struck by appendicitis.
Unbeknownst however to Brian, Bon had been watching the set and when Brian began kicking and flailing Bon was over the moon because he thought it was part of his act. Brian’s stage antics reminded Bon of his heroes, James Brown and Little Richard.
Later that same night, Geordie joined Fraternity on their tour bus and had a couple of drinks then went their separate ways the next day.
Sometime later Bon joined up with AC/DC and one day mentioned offhand that he wasn’t impressed with the rock scene in Britain when he toured there previously, EXCEPT for this one band with a wild singer named Brian Johnson who reminded him of Little Richard. He was really impressed by that Brian fella. And Bon Scott didn’t like too many singers.
Flash forward to 1980.
Bon tragically passes away from alcohol poisoning.
Malcom and Angus remain undecided about whether or not they should continue the band. They’d just broken through with Highway to Hell, but they weren’t superstars…yet.
They decide to continue.
A random fan from Cleveland, Ohio managed to contact their camp. The fan who followed the scene in Britain suggested a guy whom he believed would be a good fit for the band:
Brian Johnson.
Malcolm and Angus Young were thrown, “Wasn’t that the bloke Bon said he was impressed with all those years ago?” They recalled.
Then their producer Mutt Lange also suggested a guy he’d known of on the scene…a man named BRIAN JOHNSON.
The name kept coming up from two random sources so Angus and Malcolm knew then that they had to find this Brian and audition him.
Brian, meanwhile…had been living with his parents in his native Newcastle and pretty much retired from music. Geordie wasn’t going anywhere except for clubs so he’d opened his own auto body shop.
One day he got a call from an Eastern European woman who told him that a particular band wanted him to come to audition.
The woman was hesitant to name the band but eventually relented and told Johnson that it was AC/DC, whom he’d heard of because they were developing a big following.
However…Johnson didn’t want to drive six hours from Newcastle to London because he was thirty-two, had his own business, was semi-retired from showbiz and was convinced he wouldn’t get the gig because AC/DC was a whole other level. So he declined.
But, as fate would have it, a friend of his who did some work for Monte Python called about thirty minutes later to offer Brian some work. A commercial for Hoover vacuums.
The gig would pay him £350 plus residuals, but it was in London. However since it was a paid gig, Brian quickly accepted and then called back the mysterious woman to tell her that he’d be in London the following Monday and would be able to do the audition.
Monday came and Brian left the studio having done the Hoover jingle and collected his money. It was late in the afternoon and he found himself stuck at a crossroads:
He could drive a mile down the street and meet with AC/DC, a gig he’d never get. Or…he could drive the 5-6 hours back to Newcastle because he had to get home and open up his shop early in the morning.
Brian chose to go to the audition.
After a warm welcome from the band, they performed a few songs with Brian.
Almost immediately Malcolm got goosebumps; magic was in the air.
Angus and Malcolm were caught in Brian’s spell. They NEVER wanted the audition to end. It was like love at first sight.
But Brian had to leave, despite his reluctance to do so since he felt the magic too.
A few days later the band called him back and the rest is history.
So happy I was there … it was over 100F .. hot AF .. over 500,000 people.. just a life changing experience

Wow, can't believe this was 20 years ago. AC DC blew the Stones away. I saw the first Back in Black tour in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens, nobody knew what Brian Johnston was going to sound like but he was amazing. Never forget that one.
Acdc stole the show! Left the stones in the dust...

I was there. The Stones headlined, but AC/DC stole the show.
500,000 people were there. This is not a stadium - it’s an airport!
My wife and I were there, back before we were married. We arrived there EARLY! Managed to get a spot around the the first set of lights. We were close! A friend told us he would meet us there... yeah right... in a crowd of 500,000 people?! Well... at about 1:00pm, he was all by himself, and he walked right infront of us. I yelled his name in disbelief. Lol... he acted like it was no big deal. He hung out with us till the end.
It was SO HOT that day!! We arrived at about 9:30, got a great spot, and COOKED in the open sun all day. Totally worth it though. It was such an awesome day.
AC/DC stole the show! The Stones ended up being like tge clising credits music after a great show. Everyone just sort of got up and left. They just couldnt follow an act like AC/DC!!!!

Rush played before them. This Cdn. Audience was stoked already. Puddy.
I was there, about 400 metres back. Mick looked like a purple dot from that distance.
AC/DC of course stole the show. No surprise. But the bands were all good (Stones, Rush, Guess Who, etc.).
I was also there. It was like the book of Exodus with half the audience leaving after AC/DC. I would’ve hated to have been the stones and had to go on after them. They rocked the place! Lol 😂
Saw them in the 70's, still rocking

Lifted from an interview in Louder Sound...
"AC/DC's presence on the bill was almost completely ignored by the media in the run-up to the show, which rankled.
"We thought, 'We'll fucking show them!'" Young told Kerrang! later that year. "On the night, we went for the throat. We were like animals hitting the stage, and everything came good. We definitely blew the Stones away that night. The next day, all the press were talking about us. More importantly, the punters knew. That's what matters."
I was there, kick ass show.
