  • Today's video will be the start of a new series of... different videos here on the Off-Grid Garage CZcams Channel. I call it the 'Garage-Transformation' Series. It will be a big project so you will see such videos from time to time...
In this first video, I remove some of the existing roof insulation (very yucky and disgusting!). The roof underneath looks so clean, I really like it.
I also build a metal shelf out of some solar rail off-cuts and old brackets to hold up a small network cabinet. What has all this to do with solar and battery stuff you will ask... Let me explain.

Maybe a small tip, choose a small 12V lifepo4 in your cabinet as well, this gives you a UPS when changing your power wall, and it can handle surges when powering up your cabinet.

17:12 He made a point of saying there was plenty of room above the rack for the new insulation, so the potential condensation issue will be addressed. 👍

Note that you can power POE+ routers *directly* from your 48V battery system. You just need a fuse / breaker for safety and you are done. POE+ allows operating voltages up to 58V (and can tolerate up to at least 60V), and will operate down to roughly 50V, which is a perfect match against LiFePO4. I do this for my POE+ system (security cameras, some outside lighting, and Wifi Routers).
Also note that USB-C converter cables can supply 19V and 12V and 5V for you. A USB-C PD port can produce all of those voltages and is completely short-protected. Consider using USB-C for the step-down DC conversions. You can also get POE+ -> DC splitters which provide a USB-C PD port. So lots of options for low-voltage DC appliances.

Off topic question: I have a hybrid inverter (axpert king) and I've installed in the electrical system in my RV and IMD, because the natural and ground are bonded in the inverter the IMD alwayys trips. IMD is a regulation requirement. Any known solutions for this? also lets say I disable the bonding, when connecting to the grid for charging there will be again bonding at the supply panel
Any clues at to what to look for will be much appreciated

17:11 "There will be no heat inside, nothing."
Why would you think that? If I understand correctly, you are planning to put several DC-DC converters in there, a PoE switch, a router and a small computer. Most of the power consumed by these devices will be emitted as heat. Even if their overall power consumption would be as low as, e.g., 20 W, you will still have an equivalent of a 20 W heater running non-stop inside a small metal box with little or no ventilation. In sunny hot Australia, as you often put it.
I am unsure how hot can the inside of such a container get. But I would not call it "no heat inside, nothing".

The bigger mistake will ne, to disassamble the roof insulation, without knowing, what this will cause. Dependent of humidity and temperature of the air and the steel-toof, you will get rains inside, of condensating water.
All your electric installations, instruments will be happy about this allways high humidity by drying up all this condensating water and iron will like to rust.
=>> " You also have the option of having the roof panels produced with anti-condensation fleece or Soundcontrol anti-drip fleece to the exact size you require."

Hello Andy, I'm encountering difficulties with the Solis Hybrid RHI-5K-48ES-5G inverter. It seems to only charge the battery from the solar panels directly connected to it, despite the meter ARC10R-D16TE indicating exported power from additional panels. Despite enabling grid charging, the inverter isn't utilizing excess power from other sources. The manufacturer assured me that this model should be capable of this functionality, but I haven't been able to resolve the issue.
