- The Royal Opera's Stephanie Wake-Edwards sings 'Di tanti palpiti' from Rossini's Tancredi, as part of our Battle of the Arias series.
Tancredi was first performed at Teatro La Fenice, Venice, on 6 February 1813. The overture, borrowed from La pietra del paragone, is a popular example of Rossini's characteristic style and is a regular part of the concert and recording repertoire. The opera is considered by Stendhal, Rossini's earliest biographer, to be the composer's greatest masterpiece.
British mezzo-soprano Stephanie Wake-Edwards joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in the 2019/20 Season.
Wake-Edwards graduated from the University of York with the BA in Sociology with Social Psychology, and studied for a Masters Degree in Opera at the Royal Academy of Music with Alex Ashworth and Jonathan Papp. In 2018 she sang in the Glyndebourne Chorus for Saul, Vanessa and Madama Butterfly at Glyndebourne Festival, and also performed Third Noble Orphan (Der Rosenkavalier) there. She returned to Glyndebourne Festival in 2019 as a Jerwood Young Artist.

I saw Stephanie at Juan Diego Florez's master class at the Royal Opera House last year & recently at a master class with Antonio Pappano. She is a unique kind of mezzo sopranno, who reminds me of Daniella Barcellona. I'll be watching her career with interest. Brava Stephanie & good luck.
Oh wow, you're right, very similar voice type!! czcams.com/video/1UQVe6usdrk/video.html

What a voice. Getting some contraltoish vibes, rather than mezzo. It will be interesting to see how her fach develops.
