I had an ENTJ boss once. He was in his late 50s. Most of these words describe him very well. He was regarded as a very intimidating man. Reminded me of Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones. He met his match when I started working there. A 20 year old INTJ female. He did not like me the first few months I was there. He thought that I was stupid because I never spoke. And he was tough on me. Told me I had to step up. I think he was expecting me to crumble beneath the criticism. And/or, he may have been testing me. He found out that I was stronger than I appeared and, after reviewing my work, that I was significantly more competent than he had expected. Once I proved my competence to him, it was like a switch. It opened a whole new side to his personality. By the end of my time there, he had a softness and regard for me there that I never saw with anyone else. Almost like I was a daughter to him or a protege. We worked VERY well together. Very dynamic interactions and he always had a smirk on his face when he saw how confident and self-assured I was. I appreciated his leadership greatly and I have good memories of my time with him.
So true. INTJ here, always had great relations with ENTJ managers. They may be fickle but if you win them over they really have your back and give you a surprising amount of autonomy.

Hehe, it’s true, when an ENTJ eventually rolls over and shows you the soft belly, it’s fuzzy indeed! And God help anyone who crosses someone they love. My dad is one and even though things haven’t always been easy (I mean, he has an INFP as a daughter!), he is absolutely someone I know I can count on in an emergency.
I worked for an ENTJ boss for many years as an INTP. We were like the dynamic duo, coming up with ideas and getting things done. I know exactly what you mean about the softness shown only for the close few trusted. Our ability to work so well together is the main reason I stuck with him for years. I've learned that the intimidation and the testing is all part of the game... they tease and test those they like. I don't envy those they don't like. If you're still standing after being tested by an ENTJ, it probably means you're on the better side of that equation. You'll know you've made it if they defend you as one of their own and loyalty will be a mutual core of that. NEVER cause an ENTJ reason to distrust you. That is my advice.
May I ask why did you stop working with this ENTJ boss?
I know an ENTJ who had a pretend very heated argument with her husband in front of some builders they employed in order to make them feel sorry for the husband and give them a discount. And apparently it worked. She is a very scary woman when she wants to be so I’m not surprised

I'm glad you resonate with that word. It's something I've seen many ENTJs go into (in some form) as they mature and develop. Sometimes they even start off pretty young with this stuff. Apparently, female ENTJs are the rarest combination. I'm always doubtful of the stats on such things but it wouldn't surprise me if that were true. I'm egalitarian. I believe everyone deserves equal rights and equal lefts.
I disagree with the idealism part. I think ENTjs are one of the most idealistic people out there and it is one of the biggest differentiating factors between ENTjs and Estjs.
I consider myself a ruthless idealist. I live in the world of abstract ideas and I try my best to bring them into fruition no matter how much I have to fight for them. ENTjs are idealistic in terms of their visions and plans but their methods are practical enough to get stuff done in this Si world. We just know how to work the system to eventually get to our goal.

As an mature and stable ENTJ, I would exchange the word explosive with insatiable. I crave learning and mastering new topics...aka hobby bouncer.
ENTJ here. Love this list, haha. The nuance you add to the words is pretty accurate. Like for example in competitive, we like it because it helps us improve ourselves; we don’t necessarily like competition for competition itself.
For your question… We might sound authoritative because a lot of times things need to be forced in order to move forward. We’re fine providing that force.

I have often pondered doing a video of this kind i.e. how the types vary depending on their gender. I'm not sure that I have many big insights on the topic if I'm being honest but there are definietly some things that jump out to me right away as being differences (because of societal factors). @@lovewho Please do. GF is a unicorn female ENTJ. I am an ISTP, and I think that is probably the only reason we get along well enough. Even so, she is dealing with depression which adds a very strange and confusing dichotomy to her personality. One that I would like to help her overcome. I need to understand her motivations and thoughts better to do that. She doesn't like nuance very much.

I had a friend who was ENTJ. I got to see from up close how Te works as a dominant function. Since that one is supposed to be the function I suck at, I decided to replicate her functioning and see why it goes against my natural mental process. I started with simple things she did to keep herself on track. Lists, spreadsheets, measuring stuff while cooking,… I couldn’t keep it up no matter how hard I tried. Here is why. While she was cooking, she needed to follow the recipe and measure things to add. She needed to be exact from the get go. Now, when I am even at the stage of simply reading a recipe, my attention is such that I need to get the idea that applies and then kinda change stuff rather than follow it exactly. Exactness from the start takes away the experimental side and adding/subtracting things as you go. Now, she also used to have lists on lists. At certain areas, I do need some sort of a list (example - movie watchlist). But in her case, she needed that for products to buy as well. She had such lists written on paper as well as on her phone. She had mentioned it several times that she loved the feeling of crossing things off her list. So, I thought: let’s try this approach and see to what point I can keep it up. Me and lists... If I go to a store, the list is gonna be a guideline (at best). It can be a reminder of the idea of what I am actually searching, but I am highly likely to switch products on the list with alternative if I consider it better while going through the store. For her, lists were integral for her normal daily functioning. For me, lists are reminders that I may (but more often than not - may not) follow. Nonetheless, I found this experiment interesting. It was really like walking in someone’s shoes to see how they think and how much their mental process differs from your own.
You speak of her as if she is a part of your past now. What became of your friendship?
In my opinion following the recipe while cooking is not quite ENTJ-ish. I consider a recipe as a suggestion that I can improve or adapt to what i have at home.
The lists for the lists are accurate. 😂 But they also change an adapt if necessary.
Based on your description she seems more of Te-Si axis. Very detail oriented. That seems like she has a great use of Si. Te-Ni is more improvisational because Ni is a background creative function so its aware of how things play out without spending time planning in detail. Se also gives a sense of spontaneity and improvisation.
@@kreole7376 This is so true about the details. Every time i go to buy my usual skin care, which i use for years now, i have to make a video call to my daughter to ask which one it was. The kids started to highlight the important passages in the mails from school. bcs i read them in diagonal and sometimes i miss some details. It's the running gag in the family and i'm the mother btw. 😅
I'm an ENTJ and this describes me to a T. I can assure you my home is made up of flying sticky notes of lists and my phone has a thousands of lists and is still growing. Though am open to experimentation and improvising, hence I too like you go to a store and spontaneously pick up items which I deem better. Infact, am always improvising and looking for ways to get things done better.

I want to add commitment and stubbornness to it. I feel like a lot of my motivation comes from keeping my words and back it up. My worst nightmare is that people makes fun of me not carrying out my plan I said publicly.
Explosive. It’s so true and yet the ENTJ I know best (my dad) is in such denial and seems either unaware of his temper or denies he’s angry while erupting like Mount Vesuvius. Even my ESTJ mom isn’t this oblivious. She may be a Te-dom but at least high Si means you notice your physiological reactions to a situation if nothing else. So even if she’s not immediately aware what’s ticking her off or stressing her, that stomachache or headache is going to be a very quick clue for her to step back and figure it out. As an Fi-dom, the level of obliviousness that ENTJs have to their own emotions, temper, and propensity for taking stuff personally (while denying it and blaming whoever they’re mad at) is absolutely incomprehensible. A healthy Fi-dom is always aware, at a minimum, of whether or not they’re entering explosion territory and that level of awareness means if we DO blow up it’s in defiance of obvious red flags. So yeah, that whole thing just completely baffles me. -INFP
I think that combination of Se and Fi boiling up is explosive and intense. As time goes on they’ll be less this way and will (hopefully) channel that energy even more productively than they already do ~ Nathan

@@lovewho My 64 year old ENTJ father still explodes on the daily when things don't go his way. Ironically getting upset if I so much as change my tone towards him yet screams at me daily (then denies it)... it really is baffling and I'm with Nerys Ghemor on this one (I'm also an INFP). You have my sympathy Nerys, ENTJ fathers as an INFP are hell and still affect me into adulthood.

As an INFP too I can tell your father is not a healthy ENTJ. ENTJs are sometimes a bit harsh with their children when they wanna make a point, but they are caring, loving parents. I bet your father has an anger problem, and it is not related to his MBTI.
Interesting description.most of my life before I got into mbti I never understood why some people couldn't live the way I did. Be consistent or simply just keep their word. Learning how we differ and how both our weaknesses and strengths showcase themselves in the daily has helped me to be a better version of myself and more accommodating to others as well.- ENTJ 3w4
ENTJ here. I don't need words to describe my personality. I just live in reality and make the most out of it. My actions, goals and accomplishments speak for themselves.

Combative, charming and authoritative are absolutely correct. Now it makes sense why my parents pushed me to take martial arts when I was younger so it would humble me.

Thanks be to God, we often soften up with time & grace lol. My poor kids, husbands & friends! Seriously though we can be fiercely loyal and love deeply those who are close to us. I have to say that at 58, I have "sucked the marrow" out of life and feel as if I have left almost no stone unturned so that is deeply satisfying!

I took the personality test a few years ago and I was an INFP. And I’ve taken it recently two times, and it has changed to ENTJ. Ngl I feel like a boss 😂😂 and I actually am now. I’m also less sensitive about things too. I really grew up.

I'm originally an infp, but lately I'm on a mission. Working on getting my life started and I've changed, maybe temporarily. My type changed! I've adopted entj characteristics to achieve my goals.
Haha, I did this too by mistake. I started implementing changes to the way I emotionally viewed and reacted to situations because I wanted to be more logical so I was working to rewire my brain and I slowly but surely went from an INFJ to an INTJ. It’s become more natural for me to view things through the lens of logic now. I’m naturally an INFJ so sometimes that still shines through but I find myself relating more and more to the INTJ and less and less to INFJ.

When I first took an MBTI test in my 20s I was INTJ, but in my 30s I score as ENTJ. I think I've been slow to know what to focus on (I was trying to do too many things), but now my life is in alignment I feel unstoppable.

Hi. I'm an ENTJ.
I'll just give some comments to each word:
1. We tend to seem authoritative because we want to get to the point. Reaching a conclusion to reach a result is the prime usage Te. You can think of it as a huge annoyance with the act of not having a conclusion. We are fine with adjusting along the way, but there needs to be *something* to work with. Usually we may assert something we aren't actually that sure of, simply because having a decision set is much more comfortable. We may doubt our own assertions and eventually the moral implications of them, but it's simply from the constant desire to reach a conclusion.
2. We tend to see everything that we do as part of our mission, our strive to cut out that which doesn't align with that mission. For that, we may seem like we treat everything as a job, but some of these things may simply be recreational.
3. Depends on the definition of idealism. Yes, we are great at not using resources we don't have, (i could not imagine an ENTJ who would overuse on their credit card or unplanned go into debt) but we are idealists.
4. It's funny how i would always fine administrative work and strategy games very enjoyable. It's like it was a leisure activity, where for others it was a chore. The act of setting a goal and working towards it (actually not so much achieving it, but working towards it) is very enjoyable.
5. ENTJ's tend to never think they can loose. There is little use in thinking you cannot do anything, so why not do it? I've never doubted my abilities, but i have doubted where to use them. Very often.
6. Depends on the maturity level yeah. I had a very short temper when i was young, but I am very calm and stoic now.
7. We don't try to, it happens. We see a problem, we want it gone. If you don't do your role in achieving that, you are nothing more than an obstacle. We don't even notice it, but it can cause hurt feelings. If we are running late on something, expect orders and stress levels rising.
Anyway, no more to say. ENTJ's are nice people who really want decisions to be made.

I'm surprised what Entjs and Entps have in common while being competetive.
My daughter is an ENTJ, and I am an ENTP. This describes her well. It's been difficult to parent her to say the least, but I'm trying to understand and research her personality type so that I can effeciently parent her. Only person who can put argue me, but with logical inconsistencies. She never gives up!
That is such a fascinating combination to me - ENTP parent with an ENTJ child! It seems like she has some traits that will serve her well in life ~ Nathan
I like the thought of a baby ENTJ or a child ENTJ, an ENTJ who can be mothered because we are so take charge kind of people and they say women mature sooner than men additionally if our lives were difficult we mature even faster. Though your daughter is older, precious little ENTJ toddler is gonna be my happy thought of the week.
11. Is wrong. What you’re describing is meritocracy.
I think I took the Myers Briggs once for a job interview. Still do not now what personality type I am because I never saw the result, although I was hired. I wonder what personality type just doesn't care one way or the other?

Has anyone else noticed that most descriptions of entjs are speaking to an undeveloped or pretty immature entj archetype?
Ie over asserting that entj is unemotional or has no room for idealism? A more developed, individuating entj has access to introverted feeling. Same paradigm as with any type.
This is where the Mbti formulation fucked up and bastardised jungs theory… jung meant type to be the beginning of the self growth/individuation journey. Not for it to be our guilded cages.

#4 I just read that Stratego was finally mastered and it took AI to do it. I think they meant it was finally mastered by an AI, or, they are idiots who don't know some humans have done just fine with it all along. Or both. Anyway, one of the interesting things that may have actually made sense within that article that I barely gave the time of day to was that Stratego is considered to be harder than Chess and Go. Which is also annoying as people kept acting like they didn't believe me that I could play Go and many didn't believe me that I could play Chess and had never lost. I never lost at either, and I never lost at Stratego, playing against people- repeatedly- who had never lost before they met me.
I am not saying this to brag. I am saying "Strategic! Check!" I used to play this lovely computer game in this class for job seeking youth wherein there was a reenactment of battles, such as Little Big Horn and some stuff in the Civil War, that were considered to be unwinnable for the side that lost, no matter what other choice they made with what choices were open to them. The game was supposed to teach you that you have limits, really. Even if you could flank left instead of right, you would still lose.
Except, I managed to convince the game to, instead of sending a flank to either right or left and the rest right up the middle, send everyone either right or left, which took us right past those who were coming up the middle at us, and then we killed everyone they left behind and rode up on them, still flanking them on both sides and then attacking. Which was supposed to be impossible, because, it was not a way the military of that time would have fought. But, as I pointed out to them, I am not of the military and this is not that time.
The thing is, if you tried to make the game do something highly unusual it would request more information about why. Then, it would change to that strategy if it was within its parameters to understand the reason. Apparently, no one had ever tried doing something other than the options it listed as a "and" instead of an "either/or" before. I was supposed to type in right or left to the question as to if I wanted to flank R or L, but I typed in"Yes" and it wanted to know why. So, I told it. And, I won the game. But, it was an unwinnable game. So they were very upset.
As an INTJ, ENTJs make no sense to me. Why squander all that thinking and effort on something so pointless? But I'm also kind of envious of them. ENTJs seem to be satisfied with their goals and achievements. I see my own thinking and effort leading to some greater point, but I'm not even sure what that point is and I'm doubtful I'll ever reach the point. However, I'm driven by the desire to reach the point of points which requires I abandon all effort to reach a lesser point. The lesser points I've reached do not satisfy!!
We don’t mean to assert things with an authoritarian tone. We don’t mean to sound arrogant. If you find an ENTJ that doesn’t that means they have come to realize it and are actively working on not sounding that way.
Did anyone else feel compelled to read the definitions on the screen while simultaneously trying to listen to what the guy was saying, and then get annoyed after realizing you can't do both and go to the comments to speak your mind about this?

@@alicehoffmannart I don't see there being a shortage of ambition in most parts of the world. While loneliness and meaninglessness seem pervasive. Some fine tuning between the two is worth considering. How much ambition is enough for one household? Family members deserve a vote.

@@m2pozad I can only speak about my situation as an INFP with an ENTJ parent but I got out of there as soon as I could and our relationship still couldn't be repaired into adulthood. The baffling part being how he still doesn't get the reasons he's left alone and no one contacts him or wants to spend time with him (he thinks it's everyone else's fault but his own).

Even though I'm nothing like ENTJs, I really like more mature ENTJs... when they like me, which certainly isn't all the time. When they boldly tell me that I lack value, I love the ensuing chaos. When they have the wisdom to see that they get what they give, I love that more.

It's annoying that people seem to give us ENTJs negative connotations 🙁. The descriptor itself isn't necessarily a negative depending on how it is implemented *sigh*

Plus most people you step on, use and treat as your little peasants will despise you, then again if you're an ENTJ empathy or caring for others isn't going to be one of your strong suites anyways.

@@dualmouseman I don't know if your experience is with an ENTJ or just a horrible person. Most ENTJ's don't think that way unless you're the "enemy". We value competence and loyalty. People who are good to us, we normal are good to them in return. And the last point you made, is true in a sense, we can turn off what emotions we may have to anyone, who betrays us.
@@thatguy8430 I know 3 definite ENTJs (as in they've done a MBTI test) 2 of them did it cause of their work requesting it. One of them is my father and maybe I'm a little biased but the point is that these 3 individuals plus certain managers and bosses I've had (which I think were ENTJ) all happen to be: controlling, critical, inflexible, demanding, workaholic, putting their needs above everyone else, selfish, egocentric etc...
Now you may think I'm just a useless employee but I've had wonderful bosses too (including my current one) which can actually look outside themselves, lead by example and even treat their employees like human beings (as opposed to disposable assets).
I do agree with you there are horrible people belonging to each type and that doesn't mean the type itself is horrible. But even the "normal" ENTJs (i.e my cousin and aunt) are annoying to be around with on a social level as they are far too preoccupied with status, image etc... and often come off judgemental and unable to respect other family members opinions (an no, they're not considered horrible people, they have lots of "friends" as they're rich and "successful"). There's zero emotional connection though, they only treat the people that are of use to them in a nice way.
