Agreed, I actually don't want to know the prices of things. It's their money and they can spend it how they like. It's not my business. I enjoy the beauty of what they do. I personally think some blocking of people who think Billy and his family have to explain everything to them because they demand it should happen. I wouldn't want people asking me questions like that, so I won't be asking people questions like that of others. Asking questions like that is more telling of the person asking than it is anything else. Billy.... don't let them bully you. Just block them. This feeling of complete defeat from utter strangers wanting something that don’t deserve, is disgusting and heartbreaking. Billy, you owe the internet absolutely NOTHING. Anyone that disagrees isn’t here for you and what you’re doing and what you stand for. The amount that you’re spending on the LOCAL ECONOMY is incredible and says more about you than anything those strangers can suggest or insinuate. I am so glad you are still here! My husband died one month ago. He would hear your music and ask, "Petherick's?", I would say yes and give him a run down of what you were doing. He was so impressed with the organ renovation. He is the reason we live in an 1887 railroad depot filled with antiques. I miss him so much and would have hated to have lost your channel, something that I enjoy and shared with him.

I agree and don’t really like to hear costs, but I’m not hoping to do a project like this. Plus he gave us all the prices at once. In the future it will be more spaced out. Here in the US, people can pay $60,000 to $100,000 for a residential kitchen remodel,so Billy didn’t do too badly considering this will be a convent showpiece and gathering spot. I wish Billy wouldn’t feel the need to defend himself. He seems to have great reno and design instincts. Plus he actually asks for our opinion when he wants it.
I personally enjoy the convent videos. A woodworker myself for 40 years and have flipped a few homes I remodeled, I find the how and why of your remodel interesting and informative. Simon seems to be especially knowledgeable. Don’t know why people would obsess about your past, who cares. Has nothing to do with your content. I started watching when you were fixing the tiles on the chateau roof. I was hooked. It is refreshing in this Era of snarkiness to have positive entertainment. My husband has done construction in Alaska (now retired), so I have found it interesting to see how things are done in France, both old and new.

As we grow we mature and, if, what we all did as our younger selves was held against us all the time, we would never get anywhere. Well it is a public media channel that the renovations to the Chateau videos are shown on, it has a comment section and people can ask about the cost of the project, they might be thinking of undertaking something similar or such like, he is not obliged to say but it is "helpful". The only thing we are "entitled" to ask about are the renovations as the channel is about that, his private life is private, I can imagine what the decade ago incident is but that has been resolved, we all make mistakes, however a majority of people are enjoying this channel for being able to follow the journey of the renovation work, and the viewers partially help to degrees of interaction with how the project is funded and again I would imagine that is supported by the majority, so please continue and don't complain and don't explain, except about the renovations!?!
for wood of that age and quality, making this today from scratch will be a LOT more than 4 grand (even assuming you can find enough material that matches the old)

I honestly don’t think Billy was extravagant because the kitchen is the heart of the convent. It’s where the people will meet up, Gwen can do her zooms and there and have her meetups there too. For charity events or cooking shows. I do believe the kitchen will pay for itself. It might take a while but not that long. Billy is not an extravagant spender. His only weakness are the Brocantes tempting him with copper. Finally, Billy is farsighted. He has a plan and he’s going to see it through. Love it. .

Watching all the work has made me appreciate what it must have been like to construct this structure in the first place. Peeling back a wall and finding the old nails? The tour through the old garden and figuring out what sort of trees were there. How cool is that? If you can afford what you are doing great its your investment. I am an artist stuck working in big box retail but I buy the best materials I can afford because quality matters. I started watching last year when I was out on medical leave while doing cancer treatments. Watching you all work and the daily process i think helped me look forward when I didn’t have the strength to work myself. Crack On.

You didn’t take the island and paint it some fashionable color to fit a modern esthetic, you took the time to bring it back to its former glory. Who you are today is more important than who you were 10 years ago.... We all do stupid sh*t when we are young, it is all part of growing. I was surprised the kitchen was 200K, if you had said 300K I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. Quality costs and everything that has been put into that reno is of the highest quality.

I have yet to watch any type of YT video that doesn't have its share of miserable people who want to destroy the hard work of those who post wonderful and fulfilling projects like yours. These individuals are small and insignificant and only feel powerful when sitting at a computer and using anonymity to take swipes at people they'd probably cower in front of if they met them in person. Please ignore them, because your vids are a great source of satisfaction for those of us who love seeing the old and neglected buildings in our world lovingly restored and given new life. Billy, I am totally shocked by the costs you've incurred....because the total is way below what I thought looking at the original room to the exquisite room it has become ! Excellent budgeting and planning.... besides paying all of your workers, pouring money into the economy. Brilliant! At the same time, letting us follow along and watch the transformation of historical buildings and learning about architecture and the trades. How often do we see someone actually plastering walls? Most of us in the States, put up plasterboard, tape the joints, put in corners, plaster/sand the joints/corners only.....then we paint. I had never seen the process of full wall plastering. Simon is an artist.

My one question I have is “have you had any quotes on cost, or just what is involved in repairing or replacing the lift? “ Where the lift is, does it interfere with future remodeling especially since it appears to have “sunk”? That is a huge undertaking! Cannot wait for tomorrows vlog!
I wonder if it would be much less expensive to put in a pneumatic vacuum elevator lift? It’s small and it must be cheaper. Much easier to install. Then he can just get rid of that old elevator?

The only time I wondered how much something costs was the coffee machine and thats because I have never seen such a massive thing and it is super cool! As far as wondering how much the reno costs....I dont watch to hear that info..I watch because its like watching my dream home come to reality. This feeling of complete defeat from utter strangers wanting something that don’t deserve, is disgusting and heartbreaking. Billy, you owe the internet absolutely NOTHING. The amount that you’re spending on the LOCAL ECONOMY is incredible and says more about you than anything those strangers can suggest or insinuate. He was so impressed with the organ renovation. He is the reason we live in an 1887 railroad depot filled with antiques. I agree and don’t really like to hear costs, but I’m not hoping to do a project like this. Plus he gave us all the prices at once. In the future it will be more spaced out. Here in the US, people can pay $60,000 to $100,000 for a residential kitchen remodel,so Billy didn’t do too badly considering this will be a convent showpiece and gathering spot. I wish Billy wouldn’t feel the need to defend himself. He seems to have great reno and design instincts. Plus he actually asks for our opinion when he wants it.

I personally enjoy the convent videos. A woodworker myself for 40 years and have flipped a few homes I remodeled, I find the how and why of your remodel interesting and informative. Simon seems to be especially knowledgeable. Don’t know why people would obsess about your past, who cares. Has nothing to do with your content. I started watching when you were fixing the tiles on the chateau roof. I was hooked. It is refreshing in this Era of snarkiness to have positive entertainment. Well it is a public media channel that the renovations to the Chateau videos are shown on, it has a comment section and people can ask about the cost of the project, they might be thinking of undertaking something similar or such like, he is not obliged to say but it is "helpful". The only thing we are "entitled" to ask about are the renovations as the channel is about that, his private life is private, I can imagine what the decade ago incident is but that has been resolved, we all make mistakes, however a majority of people are enjoying this channel for being able to follow the journey of the renovation work, and the viewers partially help to degrees of interaction with how the project is funded and again I would imagine that is supported by the majority, so please continue and don't complain and don't explain, except about the renovations!?!
for wood of that age and quality, making this today from scratch will be a LOT more than 4 grand (even assuming you can find enough material that matches the old)

I honestly don’t think Billy was extravagant because the kitchen is the heart of the convent. It’s where the people will meet up, Gwen can do her zooms and there and have her meetups there too. For charity events or cooking shows. I do believe the kitchen will pay for itself. It might take a while but not that long. Billy is not an extravagant spender. His only weakness are the Brocantes tempting him with copper. Finally, Billy is farsighted. He has a plan and he’s going to see it through. Love it. .

Watching all the work has made me appreciate what it must have been like to construct this structure in the first place. Peeling back a wall and finding the old nails? The tour through the old garden and figuring out what sort of trees were there. How cool is that? If you can afford what you are doing great its your investment. I am an artist stuck working in big box retail but I buy the best materials I can afford because quality matters.
I started watching last year when I was out on medical leave while doing cancer treatments. Watching you all work and the daily process i think helped me look forward when I didn’t have the strength to work myself. Crack On.
Billy, some people just suck. Block them and move on. I love watching you and your friends because of the care and respect you give to things that have survived time and the fact that you actually restore them, not “renovate” them. You didn’t take the island and paint it some fashionable color to fit a modern esthetic, you took the time to bring it back to its former glory. You took a dusty, forgotten collection of metal and crystals and returned it to a glorious piece art as it should be. I don’t care what you paid for things, you recognize the value and honor the piece. Crack on and know that their are many of us that respect and admire you and your work.
I believe it was Marcus Aurelius who said, "The only wealth which you will keep forever is the wealth you have given away." From my vantage point - and I am positive so many of your channel viewers would agree - I see an enterprising family that shares freely of themselves and a family that not only builds, but restores, cares for beauty, history and the people who pass through it. There isn’t a human being on earth who hasn’t made mistakes at one time or another and none of us owes an explanation to anyone! What you’re doing at the convent is amazing and you should be very proud. You don’t owe anyone a listing of your finances or about anything other than how you’re renovating that building into the beautiful space it will be.

Who you are today is more important than who you were 10 years ago.... We all do stupid sh*t when we are young, it is all part of growing. I was surprised the kitchen was 200K, if you had said 300K I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. Quality costs and everything that has been put into that reno is of the highest quality.

I have yet to watch any type of YT video that doesn't have its share of miserable people who want to destroy the hard work of those who post wonderful and fulfilling projects like yours. These individuals are small and insignificant and only feel powerful when sitting at a computer and using anonymity to take swipes at people they'd probably cower in front of if they met them in person. Please ignore them, because your vids are a great source of satisfaction for those of us who love seeing the old and neglected buildings in our world lovingly restored and given new life. At the same time, letting us follow along and watch the transformation of historical buildings and learning about architecture and the trades. How often do we see someone actually plastering walls? Most of us in the States, put up plasterboard, tape the joints, put in corners, plaster/sand the joints/corners only.....then we paint. I had never seen the process of full wall plastering. Simon is an artist.

I will follow your travels as you continue on with the convent. My one question I have is “have you had any quotes on cost, or just what is involved in repairing or replacing the lift? “ Where the lift is, does it interfere with future remodeling especially since it appears to have “sunk”? That is a huge undertaking! Cannot wait for tomorrows vlog!
I wonder if it would be much less expensive to put in a pneumatic vacuum elevator lift? It’s small and it must be cheaper. Much easier to install. Then he can just get rid of that old elevator?
