Ryan from Blaze here! Thanks for the review! Just as an FYI, We are planning on adding per game mapping Q1 2023! This improvement will also apply to the VS
I am really looking forward to this. One thing though: Could you make a dock (or at least add support for an external controller) for this thing?
Looking forward to getting the EXP. Will Blaze also be adding TATE to the VS in the future? Would really want that!
Is there a sega arcade cartridge or is one maybe planned?
Excellent news. Those mega man controls won’t work for me at all. LOL.
Love what Blaze does though. Keep up the amazing work! I’m all in!
Got one arriving tonight. Can't wait
I hope that some time soon Evercade will get physical cartridge support from SNK, CAPCOM and KONAMI for both Arcade and Console releases.
SNK would be sick
Awesome review! Super appreciate you mentioning the button orientation in your reviews. Not enough channels mention that detail in their impressions and reviews, but I appreciate that you do.
Totally pre ordered this and the Toaplan cart...was waiting until your review vid came out! Thank!!!
Really glad I waited for the Exp to jump into Evercade. Looking forward to it arriving.
Cool stuff, excited to pick one up when I have some extra money. loved the shot at the “friend” console.
Glad you mentioned about the button configuration have not seen that on other reviews . Looks like they will do an update in near future tho so will still purchase one . Thanks👍
Great video. Can't wait to get my hands on mine. Thanks for the video.
I'm SUPER EXCITED to get my hands on this. Aside from how awesome the EXP looks, all of the games are among my very favorite retro games. So many of the previous collections were so, so but now we have Snow Bros, R-Type, Turrican, all those awesome Capcom games...!!! I hope Amazon doesn't screw with me by sending it two weeks after the 15th. UGH! Have to agree that the Dpad on the Evercade units are perfect - very much like the 6-button Genesis Dpad. Something Nintendo could take a lesson from. Their tiny cross-version of a Dpad is horrible.
I'm getting EXP this week, can't wait. Good to hear per game mapping coming soon. God Blaze You :D
I've been keeping a close eye on the EXP. Love the Evercade concept but went through 3(!) different og handhelds, one after another (return and replace with local retailer) - all had a stuck/dead pixel.
EXP is looking great.
So the shooting is down on the d-pad and the jump is the start button, and to move left is R1 and to move right is tate mode B. Ship it!
Actually, glad to see they are going to add custom button mapping in early 2023 as per your pinned comment. I like the video and have been eyeing the Evercade EXP for a while now! :D
Thanks to that Funstock founders edition being jacked, I had to re-order the standard edition just to have one to play next week (it will apparently ship before the 15th), and while I'm annoyed by that situation I still think this videos shows it will be worth it.
Not with those Royal mail strikes takibg place today till the 22nd
Great video and impressions, I was still sitting on the fence about getting an EXP but your review helped me make my decision (that and the post from the Blaze rep stating that button mapping is coming) so I just ordered one along with the Toaplan vol 1 cart. Also have to say Blaze and Steam are doing a much better job than M2 in getting a wide variety of Toaplan titles out. Don’t get me wrong, I love M2 and I own both Toaplan Arcade Garage 1&2 (Switch) but they’ve had the Toaplan license for about 3 1/2 years and have only managed to release two expensive dual title “collections.” Plus those Evercade carts are just so attractive. Also really looking forward to the Irem cart, there are a few games on there I haven’t played yet like Mr. Heli.
Ordering one for Christmas with an additional Tecnos game cartridge!!! Can't wait
Awsome review. I have the og. Getting the vs for Xmas. Evercade is so good.
Got my ordered! Can’t wait
Looks great! I knew you'd get it so I don't have to. Amazing.
I love your videos brother ❤️ You rock!!!! 😀
My only gripe is with the all white color of the console. It makes it look bland. It would've looked much better with the color scheme from the first evercade.
The border around the screen should of been black, with the screen border being white it makes it look more like an unfinished prototype!
I agree. A little red and grey detailing would have made this pop. It's a slick unit, though.
I dont like the solid white look. I think it needed the red style lines, I actually liked that look.
Totally agree.
With you 100%.
I wasn’t hype about this thing, but damn now I am
I bought the black limited edition but as you know some bastard stole the truck GUTTED
I was looking forward to playing on my Christmas break.
Definitely will be holding on picking one up until they get the control remapping situated.
I can't wait to have it on my hands!!
I can’t wait to get mine. I wish Blaze would port over old PC games that needed a keyboard. The VS should be able to handle it.
This system looks awesome
Hope this gets Midway, SNK and Sega classics too, in the future.
If it gets a SNK collection I'll be ordering it day one
16:9 = Pass.
Looks promising! Really wish they had opted for a 4:3 display rather than 16:9 though.
The 16:9 display could be useful for playing modern retro styled titles.
Lynx and gba titles use the extra screen real estate.
@@simonwilliamson1979 Very true, although I can’t personally see there ever being GBA titles on the EXP due to licensing. Unless if it’s hacked off-course.
@@leemar1978 there are a few GBA games already on the Evercade.
what about the Tate mode
So bummed I won't be getting my limited edition version until early next year. Any chance you'll be doing some streams of the new carts?
Yes, I am, too. I'm upset but, at the same time, understanding. I always shop for my own Christmas gift from my wife, and I won't be getting it for Christmas.
Wish I had the time and money for it man I hope you enjoy it 🥇🎮🥊
Rapid-fire or auto-fire would be a welcome addition as well :-).
Can't wait for mine... When it gets unstolen.
Love it but i still want the capcom games to be on a cartridge the whole plan with that is physicals. If it had that i would preorder day one
It's frustrating, I'm in the UK waiting for my preorder and it's delayed due to the bad weather, stuck in transit. I cannot wait to sample the goodness.
How's the screen compared to a 351v ? Besides the obvious 4.3 , 16.9 difference. Already have most of these games , but the collector part of me wants a new handheld and cart collection !
Thank you DEEPLY for this review, I was going to buy one of these, No no reconfigurable buttons???
Sorry that is a big time deal breaker for me, Thank you for this review, : )
Looks pretty good
Can’t wait for Amiga games, hopefully wizball
already have it on order this and 15 catridges :) will be my first evercade ... getting it mostly for collection...i dont think i will play games on it with all these other emulation handhelds i already have
Why bother buying a machine for playing games then not ever playing games on it? Seems like a waste of money tbh.
Thanks for the awesome first look! The EXP should have 512MB RAM and 4GB storage like the VS does, not 4GB RAM as you stated in your review. Also the coming soon screen is likely for Game of the Month which starts again in April for both the VS and EXP.
yeah I dont know why I was stuck on saying RAM, I have submitted a fix to the video and pinned comment to clarify.
Love the model of the console it seems very flush
I'm really surprised this type of D-Pad isn't more common since I think it's way better than the typical + shaped ones.
My LE was in that stolen shipment :(
Still, looking good! Kinda disappointed that after the control debacle with the first Evercade they made the same mistake here. Well, it will probably be patched by the time I get my LE with all the mess going on 😅
I need one. I haven't got a new game system for 2 years 😂.. waiting to see what kind of Amazon Gift Cards I get for Xmas
I think this will be the Evercade I purchase.
They should put a special logo of a masked bandit on our reissued founders edition units.
Or the Grinch.
My hands would cramp to hell holding that.
good thing to here they r adding button making config bc i would have canceled my pre order, honestly this should be their from day one because the did the same thing in their first handheld they did not learn a thing. many people was upset bc of this n they r doing it again, they sell great products but they got to add everything day one, we consumers always have to wait on them to add essential features.
I’m not too familiar with the carts for this but why the wide screen? Are there games that use it? Would have preferred 4:3.
Yes, it supports plenty of different systems that use different aspect ratios besides 4:3. Most the stuff is 4:3 but then you got stuff like Atari Lynx and games that actually use 16:9
There are two native games that support full res and more coming.
Perhaps if you go to 'Accessability' it'll allow you to configure buttons? If not, then hopefully thru a firmware update.
An interesting review; own the original handheld but do not play it. I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy it.
Just get a retroid pocket 3+ plays all these games perfectly with a bigger screen and has button configuration 🤘🏾
Damn I almost thought this was a official Sega handheld Dreamcast when I clicked on that Amazon link. It says platform: Sega Dreamcast, but I'm still gonna get one.
Only wish namco would come back and release some original arcade version of their games, especially vertical ones for tate mode like Galaga.
Nice looking unit. Is it an improvement over the generation 1 model?
In every single way, the most obvious and profound being a much clearer and brighter screen.
Great review, thank you!!!
Mine was stolen :(
I managed to get my hands on one early and the screen doesn’t seem to be bright enough even on the highest setting, plus there’s quite a bit of light bleed like you find on cheap aftermarket iPhone displays.
Grabbed one, really like it. I do not like the D-Pad. They really should be using the snes style dpad like 8bitdo does. They could also improve the quality of the build. The back side of the chassis has that 3d printed kind of quality to it unfortunately. The triggers and shoulder buttons need to be taken in a bit more too, I don't like having to claw my fingers to use them. I'd give it a 7/10 overall and pretty much all the lost points come down to ergonomics.
I'm trying to decide between this or getting the RG35XX or Miyoo mini plus
So sadge, lack of button config was the only reason I didnt buy the original D:
Love that Tate button tho
I think there is a market to fit a bigger screen there for a higher price. The EXP + ? 😀
Seriously considering getting into evercade with this handheld but how is the availability of carts? Are they all still fairly easy to get or are there some that are OOP and hard to get?
There was a time where some carts were harder to find after the initial release, but there have been plenty of restocks and many places that sell the carts, Songbird productions, Amazon, Video games plus Canada, Castlemania Games, Best Buy and many others and plenty of other places in Europe.
@@Madlittlepixel That’s awesome to hear. Enjoyed the review and I am definitely picking this up!
When it comes to six button fighters, and only having four face buttons, I usually like to have the weak and the fierce readily accessible on the face. Unless I’m playing killer instinct, then I need to have the medium in the fierce as the face buttons I will find that very annoying in this copy of Street fighter.
Maybe Capcom can release an AVP physical edition for the VS/EXP!!! 👍🏿👍🏿
Well am NOT going to get my hands on my pre-order of the special edition version due too something big happened it's a bloody shame tho was so excited but blaze are amazing & promised for next year
Hopefully they can get Capcom to release some of the original Resident Evil games on it.
This thing is cool but it comes down to redundancy for me, I have a switch and all I can think of is for the cost of entry $150, plus games…. I can just invest that into games for the system I already have that’s better. But if space and money are no object or you don’t have a switch, this thing is sweet.
What other games will be coming out on this? It seems like it would handle Sega arcade scalers and their System 32 stuff…
What is your stance about that the Evercade cartridges use flash memory? Wich means the cartridges have a limited shelf life and i possibly cant play the games 10-20 years from now. I loved the Evercade, but now that i know about this, i an all out.
I mean weve known they use flash memory since early on, so not sure why all of a sudden its being brought back up... Maybe people just now learning about it I guess.
Its really how much access to the flash memory overtime thats important for the life of the carts. I suppose people can be worried about it now but what id like to see is how many times a cartridge can be accessed before the memory degrades. It really doesnt seem like a shelf life issue necessarily, its how many times the flash memory can be written and read before it goes bad that I would want to know. If its like 10,000+ read/writes.. im not too much worried but if they fail after a couple hundred then sure id be out as well.
Id like to see evidence of read write cycles to corruption of the carts before I get too up in arms over it. The estimates people see of 10-20 years is interesting as well because thats being misinterpreted. Usually manufacturers will give those kinds of estimates based on an average users use of a flash storage device and not that the storage simply dies from sitting around that long, its got to be used to go bad.
So can the evercade carts go bad overtime, not from some defect in manufacturing, sure.. but they got to be used for it to happen if there is nothing else wrong with the components. How long is that? Who knows for sure besides just speculating it seems. But I dont see too many people using these carts the same way tradition flash storage is often used so yeah, I guess im not worried until I see actual evidence showing how many cycles these can withstand.
I like to call it Tate Mode, rhyming with Kate Mode or even Taint Mode.
Way smaller than I thought it'd be, thought it was about Switch-size
Love the delivery system of the Evercade and the EXP looks legit, but I’d like to see them get better game collections. Love the CAPCOM collection but they got to get that in a physical edition.
I think Capcom wouldn't license the physical releases to them... The only reason they could afford it is that it's digital only. From what I've heard.
Then they should have told them suck it till its soft then.
Quickman stage from Mega Man 2 sounds like Stevie B's Spring Love, huh
Question: is it recommended to insert cartridges while the system is running?
Yes, you can hot swap. I wouldnt remove a cart while playing a game but in the main UI selecting games etc yes thats how you are supposed to do it.
If this got Konami onboard & include the Castlevania, Contra AND the Yeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collections, these would sell like hotcakes!
Imagine if Evercade made something like an Arcade 1up cabinet but you can put your cartridges in it .....
Thatd be cool, but probably expensive. You could get a diy kit and do it cheaper with a evercade VS. the vs has a lot of controller compatibility and the ability to configure buttons, so would be easy enough to setup a control panel. Could be a cool project
One of these or something like the Ambernic RG350?
*I'm just ready for it to be modded so I can run PSP games on it*
no redefine keys and no auto fire has kept me from buying this
You'd think with all the work they put into this device, that these simple options would be included. Also a limit credit feature would be a easy option to build in
I guess it is really just for collectors and not to actually play the games
They do have a limit credit feature.. and they are adding custom button mapping 2023
@@audios_by_Paige that is great news! thanks for the update
Had anyone heard if the namco cart will work on the exp? If not I guess I'll be keeping my original handheld as well
Namco does work on the EXP
i think the games library leaves a little bit to be desired. I still love it, but they should really up the quality control. Some of the titles on the multi carts and just not great.
Very nice game!
I heard cart!!!! Are You talkin about weed carts!!!🤭
Will it play the namco carts 🤷🏻♂️
How do you not have button configuration for hardware that was not original to the software it runs? Isn't that emulation 101?
What about the stickers coming off the carts. Being on the inside is going to ruin them
Can I Plug An External Controller In Via USB C Cable Or Via Bluetooth
The dpad is awesome. Can’t wait for a wireless version for the VS
Hmmmm I wonder if he's talking about TOMMY TALLARICO! 😂😂
guessing the gripe is no 6 face buttons when you have capcom tie in...
Not the issue I have with the EXP, but that would be the only way id actually play a 6 button arcade fighter on a handheld.
@@Madlittlepixel right on i like the machine but agree
Does this support emulators? It would be cool if this could play pokemon or other Nintendo games
Tell us your honest opinion after using it for almost a week.
One more for the Cons would be no Bluetooth.
Snow bros and bubble best ever!!!
This WOULD be the perfect console if I could *mute the volume* please Blaze for the love of all that is holy patch it, it’s been 3 months ☠️
That’s an IPS screen? Looks like it has some poor viewing angles for an IPS and some huge reflections too.
Which game handler has final Fantasy 7
