I shot the Shield Plus the other day and was amazed by how something so small and light could simultaneously feel so secure and weighty in my hands. I tried out the Hellcat before and was more impressed by it than I was the P365, but man my experience with the Shield Plus was incomparable. Definitely gonna be my next EDC.

Love the Shield Plus. Yes it's the largest out of these 4, but the longer length and width of the grip fills out my hands more and allows me to control the recoil on these snappy guns much better. I also prefer the trigger on the Shield Plus. Most engagements will most likely take place at 0-10 meters so even a terrible trigger will still work at those ranges, but the Shield Plus' trigger makes training much more enjoyable.
I would highly recommend getting the optics ready model for $50-100 more even if you don't use optics because it comes with night sights. That's a cheaper and time saving alternative unless you really prefer a certain night sight.

Same. It's not that much more, but you can feel it. I still shot the Hellcat better than the P365 when I tried it at the range though and I'm used to primarily shooting .40 S&W so I put up with it the extra snappiness.
Recently I gave my Hellcat to my grandpa and just received the optics ready Shield Plus yesterday. I shot 92 rounds at my local range this morning and absolutely love it more simply because of the larger and wider grips.

I've tested all four, and while they are all worthwhile to own and carry, the winner for me is the Shield Plus.
It's a huge upgrade over the prior Shield and it does demonstrate much reduced recoil. Easily the softest shooting one of the group.
Couple that with the improved capacity, trigger, and grip and...well... What's not to like? Highly recommended. Great recap!

      @mattc5791 Před 2 lety +3

I have a small hand and the Shield grip feels perfect to me. I've never been a fan of the grip angle on a Glock. I should have specified, in most situations, I must pocket carry due my business. I actually carry my new Ruger LCP Max more than my Shield. It's easily the most concealable firearm I have ever owned. As I stated above they are all excellent firearms, as are Glocks, but when it comes down to having confidence in any given scenario, to each, his own. Carry what you are most proficient with. IMHO.

Fox Lab cone pepper spray that stops people/dogs instantly and have the 380 just in case. There is so much that can go wrong if firearms are involved so the pepper spray throws out a lot for a distance of about 15 feet. But if I were in a high risk situation I'd have my glock 40. Also bought more 9mm ammo today, at around 44 cpr, which is pretty good; prices sure have come down since the spring. I went with P365XL since it had a flat trigger, optic cut, some rail space if i i want a light, same size grip and capacity as the shield plus, and it felt great it my hand. To get the optic cut on the shield plus, i would have had to spend over $900 for the performance center model, and i had to take value into account at some point as well. The ruger seemed like the best value by far, but i just wasn't in love with it, and it has no track record yet. I could see myself buying the ruger if money had been a bigger issue for me. My S&W Shield 9 Plus smokes the Hellcat, Sig P365 and the rest everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
The S&W is a smoother shooter.
The inherited M&P grip is the best in class (no talon grips needed with the Shield)
It comes with a superb trigger, best in class for sure.
You can get it in all configurations, manual safety or not. 3.1 or 4 inch barrels.
No snag iron sights, night trijicon sights, sweet fiber optic sights or RMSC footprint red dots.
And the mag release on the new Shield Plus is nothing short of brilliant.
At the range it’s easy to observe how much better balance the S&W is under recoil, just soo soft, a true wonder of engineering.
And lastly the slides are just like glass and have impeccable finishes.
And a handful of months after its release the new Shield is for sale for 442 online. A true bargain

Not for reliability or shooting reasons, it's how the breakdown to clean. The Ruger Max 9 takedown pin is easy to use, especially when your out in the field. The Blocker Lifter and Spring are also known to break, in as little as a few rounds fired through it. This is a known issue with Ruger and haven't come up with a permanent solution!
