No one has taught me more about video editing and GoPro's than you Abe. Can't thank you enough.
Converting my video files to proxy is part of my work flow. BUT I never knew what those LRV files were for. My mind is blown! 🤯
Many thanks to this video! Very useful! Today I just got my Hero 10 and I had no idea it creates LRV files. I guess I was lucky to choose Hero 10 over Hero 9. Keep doing this kind of videos 'cause these are very helpful!
This is the tutorial I have been needing recently 👏🏻👏🏻🙈 thank you
Just thank you man at this point ! Creating videos and projects is way more easier since your videos are here !
Thank you very much for this great tip Abe, this definitely will make editing faster.
This has to be the BEST video tip out there, Thanks a lot Abe
This is what I NEED, especially the one for 360 videos, thank you, thank you, thank you.
That's a great tip about using the .LRV files! Thanks for the tutorial, and the presets 👊🏼
Thanks for the video! I just got a GoPro and shot my first video with it today. Now it’s time for the fun part!
Love your videos, Abe. Keep themcoming, please.
Thank you so much for this tip. You save me HOURS of rendering! Liked and subscribed.
Thank you! YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE.
Thanks Abe! After many years I finally know how to use LRV files from GoPro 👍
OMG Abe ... this has helped my work flow so much ... thank you thank you thank you
That's a reaaaally usefull tutorial Abe ! Thanks for that ! 🔥
This is gonna make things so much faster! Thanks a tonne Abe :)
It really does!
This is really helpful, thank you!
Great tutorial! Doing this from now on… holding off on a new computer ! 💻 thanks for saving me money 💰
Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks Abe, I've been using proxy for years but didn't think about the LRV files. Nice desk
Cheers Abe! Gopro proxies is very cool, i had no idea 👌
I've heard of proxies but this video got me using them. Thanks!!!
Would have gotten rid of my computer 3 years ago if I didn’t have proxies !
WHAT!!!!! The H10 has built-in proxies! Thanks for sharing this secret sauce to a whole new faster editing world Abe
Yeeeah boi! A new edit, so hot off the press, it’s still 420P.
So freakin' helpful and useful! Thank you sir! You are my hero!
Thank you so much
Love your contents
Great tip for hero 10 footage especially for 5k 60. Been using the LRV files as proxies since Hero 7 mostly when shooting 4k 4:3 and 2.7k 4:3 60fps videos. Usually premier would auto link the renamed proxy files automatically once searched but sometimes it doesn't for some reason so have to manually link files.
Excellent!! I did not know the Hero10 will do proxies. I only shoot with the Hero10. I was doing proxies with the Adobe Encoder but this is a game-changer because it will save me the time rendering the proxies!!
😍 That's so helpful! That way i can use my Surface Pro to edit when on the road. It's at its limits with 4K😅 Thank you Abe 🙏
Thank you. I already knew the proxy workflow, but I didn't know that Media Encoder only does max 60fps which explains several problems I had a few weeks ago. And the "secret" of gopro hero 10 is helpful, too. I thought of it with my hero 8 a year ago but didn't get it running. Nice that gopro had this idea, too.
dude, this is killer. You’re right I always deleted those. Got a 10 a little while ago and I’ll be doing this
Now I know what the .LRV files are for haha, great tutorial thanks Abe!
I’m literally rendering a GoPro video right now in Premiere Pro! Lol. Thanks for this video!
Right on!
Great video! You should make a video on how to color grade. Your video is well edit thats why I subscribed
This has been great luckily I have known this for years and I don’t have a great laptop but can edit 4K like a breeze
Damn! Just having the discussion with myself about getting a new computer before I get a 10. Thank you sir, I can also get a Max with my new 10.
Any tips on how to batch rename proxy files on Windows 10? Thank you for the great tutorial!
FYI Shotcut video editor automatically uses the .LRV as a proxy if it exists alongside the full res video and you turn on proxy mode.
Is the proxy toggled for your thumbnail 😂😂 nice touch abe!!
:)
thanks Abe... Do you have any news about ReelSteady 2.0???????
On my Hero9, I get LRV files I can use for proxy files when I record 1080p/60fps and 4K/30fps, but not 4K/60fps. Do the hero10 and/or hero11 generate LRV files when recording 4K/60fps? This setting is when they would be most useful.
Makes me want to switch from FCPX to Premiere
Just got back from a ski trip to Big Sky Sunday and already deleted all my .lrv and .thm videos on the way home SMH 🤦🏻♂️ guess I’ll be creating them in Media Encoder! Thanks for the informative tutorial, as always 🙏🏼
Haha all good. Quick pass in adobe media encoder will get you dialed
Tried this out and found the Hero10 proxy resolution to be very low res and grainy plus the renaming etc to be a little cumbersome. Using Davinci Resolve, I choose ¼ resolution in Project Setting, make a new folder for Proxies, highlight all the media and let Resolve make the proxy files for me. takes 5 mins while I make a coffee and everything is all linked and ready to rock. Good tip for those using Premiere tho and thanks for your content
Yep they have a good proxy flow.
I always edit with proxy files and Final Cut Pro, it's fast and easy.
Woah that LRV tip is mind blowing! My Hero 8 creates LRV files, can I use them the same way as you used them with the Hero 10?
Yep! There’s some specific modes that it doesn’t make LRV files for, but yeah!
@@abekislevitz RAD!! That's sooooo useful Abe, your videos are invaluable. And thanks so much for the proxy presets! Also for showing such an easy way to make proxies from scratch (very needed for my other cameras).
Are the presets usable with other editing platforms?
By the way, what about when you're editing slow motion files ? Is there a difference or something important to know ?
The biggest thing with slow motion is you can’t interpret the frame rate, because the proxy won’t change. So you can go about the normal way with percentage and retiming fine, but no interpretation of the frame rate
Is it possible to use the LRV files created by the GoPro Max as proxy files with the FX Reframe plugin? It's not clear to me how to create a Equiretangular proxy file, which is what I think is required.
Use the proxy presets I provided here for equirectangular. But no those LRV files aren’t stitched, they are basically just two lenses put next to each other.
But only with the gopro hero 10 i can do it? Because also the other gopro (like my gopro hero 8) create the lrv files.. It's a different lrv file? I didnt understand
Same LRV, but HERO10 makes LRV for all files where 8 and 9 are just some. Some are too high powered for it to make both
Does Hero 9 have .LRV files for every video also? I see only more footage taken on resolutions and framerates with H.264 codec. Is it possible to enable .LRV files for everything?
I also have the Hero 9 and am seeing some formats do not generate LRV files. It doesn't seem to be tied to the codec, but to the writing speed. 1080p/30 and 4K/60 both use the H265 codec. But 1080p/30, 4K/30, and 1080p/60 all generate LRV files, but 4K/60 does not. I'd like to know if the Hero10 and Hero11 generate LRV files in 4K/60. Maybe there is some kind of SD card write speed limitation that stops the LRV generation at the highest data rates no matter which camera you use.
Why when I upload my videos to social media they don’t look good and are not smooth? On the computer they are crystal clear 4K.
My iPad Pro edits 5 k GoPro video like nothing. Crazy fast
I don't even have a PC, and I used to "edit" in vegas pro haha, but as long as Abe uploads a video I watch it with knowing that it will be great video no matter what.
Btw, what happened to the special 100k video? Or did I miss it :o 😱?
That's incredibly helpful, Abe.
However, I just tried this and Premiere Pro (v22.1.2) refuses to automatically attach all proxies. Anyone else experiencing something similar?
It can only do them folder by folder, and you have to have the same amount of files in both folders.
@@abekislevitz thanks, Abe. I did exactly that, but Premiere always selected the original video files as proxies...!?
I only got it to work after changing the second letter of the proxy filename from "L" to "X". The first part of the proxy filename was identical to original video filename. Adding "_proxy" at the end of the filename was no problem then. (Premiere 22, Windows 10)
And just out of curiosity, which pc are you using?
iMac Pro - 10 core 3ghz with 64 gb of ram and I still can’t scrub 4K !! Hah
Have you not had the error code 403 recently with exporting and uploading to youtube? I just canceled my subscription because it was starting to happen on every project.
This should work on Hero 8 lrv files as well yeah?
Yep!
@@abekislevitz right on! Thanks Abe!
save my journey in my life
With the new fast M1 Macbooks the Proxys are not needed anymore ;)
Once you add fx reframe and a color pass in a 4K timeline something inevitably slows down. This way there’s not an ounce of slowdown in any part of the process :)

You are a savior.
I use GoPro hero 10 footage which is 4k 60fps
And EVERYTIME.. and i mean every single time i import any of that footage into premiere pro the application FREEZES and get into ( application not responding ) state where it’s pretty much impossible to get past unless if i force quit and relunch PP again!
I shoot a lot of fpv footage like yourself!..
And Once i tried out proxies my laptop feels like 64gb with M1 on it 😂🤍..
thank u bro
So awesome tutorial now i can speed up my editing from 3 day editing to 1 day editing🫶
