Welcome to Modern Homestead Alaska. We are located in South Central Alaska near the town of Wasilla. Living in Alaska and building our dream of “modern Homesteading” through the wilds of winter and the long summer days. We started building our Modern Homestead in 2021. We have since completed the upper levels of our home. Built a 16x16 foot chicken coop that dreams are made of. Our chicken ladies live in luxury as they view the beautiful lake from large windows inside the beautiful coop. We raise our own poultry, hunt for our food. We are avid fisherman And woman. We also built an amazing and beautiful wood shed. We have great big garden planes for the future. Join us as we dream big dreams and live everyday working hard to accomplish them.

Grew up with both wood and gas, gas in the summer and wood in the winter. Outhouse, no air-conditioning, no power mowers, old wringer washer and clothes line and lots of animals made for lots of cleaning every day.

Love your wood stove, and you are so correct... when we had that freak storm here in Texas... we had no issues with heat or cooking, I don't have the same stove, however our Woodburner was fantastic... of course learning to cook on a camp fire or open flames growing up never hurts...

Yes totally agree any flat top wood stove does the trick. I could use the basement one if I needed. Such a blessing in emergences like that

Yes you can use your garlic press with skin. If you watch Acre Homestead Becky makes garlic pucks and they are wonderful and a big time saver. ❤

Love my electric canner. It’s a game changer for me for small batch canning!
For sure. It does not hold an aggressive amount, but it made my life easy on the run. I had planned on just popping the broth in the fridge. But the canner saved me this time for sure.
It is so nice because you can walk away from it and do other things. When I use my All American I feel like I need to stay right by it to monitor it. But for big batches the All American is great.

Jessica that is how you know it is winter at my house in Wyoming, the big large bucket by the front door. Makes life easier
It’s so much does I don’t have to worry about hoses that way. It was not an option when we had a total of 60 plus big animals. But it’s nice for chickens
I really need to do this! We are in CO and fight with it during the real cold spells. CO is weird though in that we have super cold spells but they don't last long or all winter like in some locations. So I find that we aren't as forced to have good systems in place.
Jessica maybe do your mud room in the basement, as you come in leave your coats and shoes instead of coming in the front door , save you some work . Such a cute puppy 🐶. Thank you for sharing, have a safe trip and hope to see you soon! 🐾🐶🐾🐕🦺🐾🦮🐾

Love the soup, we've had a chicken stew tonight and i add rice to ours for the carbs. Today i made bagels for the first time, yummm.
Blue will be a nut case, it comes with the breed. My sister.in law use to have one. they're better as working dogs... I hope he/she manages to keep the tail! {were they wag it so much often get injured!}

lol my feet get cold. But I like to slid them on in the house. It’s been a beautiful trip to see my beautiful grandma
You can leave the skin on the garlic when you use the garlic press but it is so hard to squeeze so I always take the skins off

I feel your pain with herding a house full of dogs. At one time we shared our home with three American Cocker spaniels and a 120# Basset Hound and top of the herd..a cat!
I was constantly sweeping up “tumble weeds”. They are all missed and were worth each mess!

I'm taking care of my terminally ill parent and have a shedding like crazy Beagador. I went from vacuuming twice a week to daily and sometimes more than that. I would love to be able to completely sanitize the vacuum. Thank you

Dont advise freeze drying the carrots, because the carrots will turn white. One of the few things I still can is carrots for that reason. If you know the secret to keeping the carrots orange when freeze drying please do tell😊Soup looks fantastic.

if you blanch the carrots they do fine in the fd and they are yummy to snack on crunchy

people ask me dod u go shopping n I say no I don't like shopping unless I need something what do u do.i say I putts around the house. lol do people think we have a magic wand n house just cleans itself lol I cook clean n can its just me hubby n 3 dogs. n I keep myself busy n when I hurt or donr feel up to things yes I will sit n relax inside or outside of home. I take hubby to work n pick him up . I cook for him before he goes to work everyday

I hope everything worked out for your families. Chicken and gnocchi is my favorite OG soup as well and one of these days I’m going to make homemade gnocchi and make the soup from scratch. I freeze dried some spinach to have on hand for when that day comes.😂 Windy and rainy day here so I told hubby I’d make beef stew for tonight.
