Could allergy symptoms like post nasal drip prevent cord closure as I sing higher above my passaggio? For instance, I have no trouble smoothening my break around G4, but when I escalate pitch up to A4 and beyond, I feel it more difficult to maintain compression. I can feel the cords wanting to separate as if something is in between it, but it's not quite falsetto that comes out.

Hi James, this is a good question. Allergies could contribute if the vocal folds are irritated or thick because of the drip. Perhaps going to a laryngologist and doing a scope would let you know how your vocal folds are looking. Have you tried using the straw? (here's a video) czcams.com/video/mL4Y2IgdyPk/video.html
You may be feeing a shift needing to happen in the voice but perhaps the balance of CT and TA muscles and breath are fighting you a bit. Let me know what you think.

@@rejoiceinyourvoice-tricial3731 Thank you so much! I saw an ENT not long ago and she confirmed that my dust mite allergies are hindering me from singing in my upper register using full/mixed voice. My vocal folds are surrounded by an unusual amount of phlegm. I'm currently taking immunotherapy shots and will probably get relief later in the year. On certain days, it's easier for me to belt those notes, but I'm cautiously monitoring how it happens. I feel my voice using a mixed coordination of CT and TA as I go beyond F#4. That's where I thin out my chest voice a little bit and narrow my vowels. Thank you. Your videos are very easy to follow and provides a ton of insight.

@@Bottomless.Coffee Thank you for sharing with me some of the details of what you are exploring. I am really glad you saw someone. It sounds like you are very aware of your instrument. That is awesome. I can imagine that it is very frustrating that you are experiencing this but it also sounds like you are gently and slowly taking steps to find a balance for your voice. Nice work. Over the next few months, while you are doing the immunotherapy ask yourself if there is any other unnecessary tension that you can release while singing... jaw, ribs, breath, tongue, neck etc... little shifts to balance can support the overall results when your allergies subside. Cheering for you!
