I still think one of the best, if not THE best, scenes ever done on this show was when Opie gave up his after school job at the little grocery store so the other boy could help support his family. Andy, in his misplaced pride in Opie, thought Opie was being a slacker....until he learned the truth (from the grocer, I think it was), and then his pride in Opie pretty much tripled.
There were a number of episodes along this line---Opie doing the right thing, but Andy not believing him until the boy was proven right, and then Andy had to swallow his pride and admit he'd made a mistake.
    My favorite kind of episode.

I thought that poor little Opie really was going to get a whipping just because Andy assumed that he lied about Mr. McBeavy even though in this particular situation if Mr. McBeavy wasn't there when Opie thought he would be (which couldn't be helped), most parents would most likely be suspicious and think that he made him up just to get attention or "get out of work" or "to try to explain things that just seem to come from nowhere". But Opie sticks to the truth and in one of the later scenes Andy says, "Mr. McBeavy" and to his surprise Mr. McBeavy comes down from the tree and he quickly discovered that Mr. McBeavy was not only real, but EXACTLY the way Opie described him all this time!!😄😂💕💕💕

Could you please tell me what happened between Opie and Mr. McBeevey? Why did Andy say he believed in Opie?

+Lana Tran He's trusting on blind faith of Opie's word. Andy sees how far Opie would go with his Mr. McBeevee story that he would risk having punishment to STILL stand by that story. In the end of the episode, Andy FINALLY confronts Mr. McBeevee...

The scene after this video ends is something special. Andy goes back out to the woods and shouts "Mr. McBevee!" and he replies "Hello! Somebody call me?" Andy kept shaking his hand. In the epilogue, Andy tells Barney that saw Mr. McBeevee in the woods "right where Opie said he was".

earlier in the show, Opie was playing in the fields when he crossed a lineman who was finishing his work. The lineman was coming down from a power pole (spikes connected to shoes was how linemen climbed up and down poles), wearing a gleaming hard hat (metal, in those days); his tools were attached to his work belt (rattling, as he came down the pole). Mr McBeevee started talking to opie, and showed him a magic trick (make smoke come out of his ears, pulled a quarter out of thin air and gave it to opie). As they became friends, Mr. McBeeVee also gave opie some old used tools.
So now Opie comes home, talking about a man who walks in the trees (utility pole), head gleaming (hard hat), rattling when he walks (tool belt), giving him money and tools.
Dad wonders if he is stealing and lying.
A child's description never makes sense unless you either care to think like a child or open your heart. sheriff Taylor did the latter.
Later the next day, Taylor was out in the woods where Opie claimed to see this person, thinking out loud and wondering about his son.
Exasperated, Taylor exclaims, MR McBeeVee, at which Mr. McBeeVee answers (as he climbs down a power pole, wearing the gleaming metal hat and rattling from his belt).
Truly one of my most favorite episodes!

The most important thing a parent can do is believe what your child tells you. I had something terrible happen to me and my mom didn’t believe me. It caused life long trauma that took lots of counseling to overcome the traumatic event.
