1939 (year of movie setting) reminds me of 2016-2020.
Yeah, the TDS crowd played into the hysteria of the left. And with their temporary victory in getting Biden (establishment) back in.... we have record inflation, an out of control border, Russian expansion, higher crime, higher energy costs, higher gas prices, lower consumer confidence, more attacks on free speech, higher grocery prices, reduced emergency oil reserves, higher human trafficking, higher drug volume, etc.

That not to say that Republicans are angels either. But most examples of big violent political machines like in this movie were Democrat controlled. Tammany Hall of New York City comes to mind.

Apparently Mr. Smith's spouting off platitudes about democracy to an empty Senate is going to make some difference. The film wasn't bad until this little interlude that makes no sense anyway.
Obviously you never watched the movie. If you did, you’d understand the filibuster. As long as he holds the floor, the Senate cannot vote on the appropriations bill. But, watch the movie!

i would liken this scene to a movement like black lives matter. except, instead of just being hosed down by the police, they get canisters of tear gas
