    From the UK and I've become obsessed by the idea of the Irish Spice Bag, simple, elegant, unapologetically for the working man (very) early on a Saturday morning. I want one!

      @@ScranNaasty I literally went and got the ingredients from the supermarket this morning to make one (obsessed I tell you!), hope i do it right. Although not being fussy seems to be part of the deal which is fair enough.
      I hope the ISB doesn't become gentrified, keep it greasy and honest folks - Have a good Xmas over in Eire!

    You've provided a text-book-perfect method for spice bag prep...easy to set up for, very clear in every aspect of cooking and the end product looks like more enticing than most restaurants would provide...(I was searching online for spice bag mixes and such but after seeing you make yours there's no need to; you prepared this effortlessly with attention to every little detail...perfect, uncrowded frying & then draining of the chicken makes a big difference as you've shown...) ✨🤙🏼✨

    Have had these in Scotland for about 60 years or so and been in Liverpool since the 1960s (originally was the Cantonese community there that started the salt-pepper-chilli season mix), though each time I've seen an Irish version I've always thought it lacked seasoning - yours is the first which would get a pass here though lol.
    Ingredients pretty much identical to what we use as well, though we also add in szechuan pepper and peppercorn, and also go a fair bit heavier on the chilli and five-spice.
    You guys opt for the battered chicken strip, though here probably most popular is the battered chicken balls. Another thing you can do is marinade the chicken in the fridge for a few hours before battering and frying. Sweet and sour marinade goes really well with the season mix, it's pretty fire.

      Hahaha thanks for the pass , I know the Chinese takeaways started in England, Ireland just copy’s off uk Chinese fast food so I was shocked when I moved to England and the Chinese’s wore awful I couldn’t believe it. I’ve heard Scottish Chinese takeaways are sooo nice and the best by far I need to try them.

    • @ScranNaasty
      @ScranNaasty  Před 3 měsíci

      I haven’t. My air fryer isn’t big enough and I like frying the chicken to make it close to a Spicebag. If you did it in the air fryer and still used all the seasoning of course it will be a delicious healthier version of it 👍✅
