We have a rabbit that is almost completely deaf, and he literally screams if he wants attention. Normally if you hear a rabbit scream it means it's in mortal fear for its life, for Stitches it means he wants his dinner or to be picked-up.

Maybe if they did some research before just a buying cat , they wouldn't have needed that vet visit at all. 80% of white cats with blue eyes are deaf, that the first thong comes up whne you look them up

In 2016 my wife and I found a little kitten in our garage. At first, she was really scared. But after multiple times leaving food for her, she finally warmed up to us and we took her into the house. She kept running into things, so we brought her to the vet, who confirmed our suspicions: she was blind. Today, Caddie is seven years old and going strong! She can go outside, roam around, and can always find her way back to the door. She can even catch mice outside (we guess she listens for them). She now has the company of four other kittens we rescued almost three years ago! Thanks to all you who do everything you can to help the helpless animals over their physical and mental problems!
A cat can use it whiskers to sense the movement of its prey. That's why they always seem to know when and in which direction an escaping mouse will run. It's absolutely fascinating to me.
She can hear the mice, and smell the mice, but mostly she uses her whiskers. Tie something, that smells like food, to the end of a string. When she's just sitting there, wiggle the food smelling thing a couple of feet above her head (using the string), and see what happens.

Donut has Norwegian Forest cat traits; he's floofy(fluffy) he's very active and loves the outdoors. Thank you guys for loving him and making him part of your family ❤️❤️❤️

Donut may very well have both traits. He is certainly a beautiful fur baby! My first thought was Norwegian Forest cat too. My father-in-law has a “Weegie-mix” as well & Ozzy enjoys being outdoors and around water. He’s not too fond of being IN water or getting wet, but he enjoys playing with toys that are floating in water. Blessings to you all!!

Except Mason isn’t loud be because he’s deaf.
Mason is just loud because he’s a hateful little gremlin.
And I love him because of it!
My roommates cat is loud and bitchy and I love her for that. She’s my role model.
Those parents are wonderful! They took the time to observe their boy and figure out that something was amiss with his hearing. And once the vet confirmed so, they worked hard to cater to his needs. I love you guys and I've never even met you!
the didn't figure it out till going to the vet and cater to what needs? spend more time whit the cat ? the should have done that before the found out it was deaf

Deafness is common among white cats
Especially among white cats with blue eyes. My friend has a white cat with one eye blue, the other one green. The ear on the side of the blue eye is deaf.
@@t84t748748t6 What I understood from the video: Once they knew he was deaf, they changed how they approached Donut, so they wouldn't scare him. Example, not sneaking up to him from behind and tapping the ground surface next to him to wake him up.

Awe he was screaming cause he couldn’t find you or hear you guys behind the closed door. He was lonely. I love animals and they each have a distinct personality and talk to you with their actions and habits. I wish people would pay closer attention and learn their animals personalities and needs. I’m glad you guys got him help and figured him out. What a wonderful life he now has. Such a blessing to you guys ❤❤❤

Glad that Donut didn’t have anything seriously wrong with him but they absolutely did the right thing: the vet should always be the first stop if there’s any question about your cat’s behavior. ❤ I have one that isn’t fully deaf but is definitely hard of hearing, and it’s very helpful to know that in order to be more respectful and so I can get her used to knowing there will only be good surprises like pets and the occasional treat in bed. ❤
vet should be something you do as soon as you adopt a pet though, not only after months of it screaming
@@lilaclizard4504 Yes, I went to the vet first thing when I got my cats. That said one of my cats has had progressive hearing loss that started a few years ago and would not have been evident on that first checkup. So I don’t want to assume Donut was 100% deaf at the start. It’s hard to judge from a video that’s only 5 minutes or so.

I'm happy to see a couple not caring about an animal's disability. There were a lot of times where they were returned to shelters or abandoned.
My beloved Boo was a long-haired white cat, deaf like Donut. There is a genetic predisposition to deafness in white cats, especially those with blue eyes or different colored eyes. Boo had one gold eye & one blue eye. I adopted him because I had a quiet home, & he loved my other 3 cats. Boo was just gentleness & love, so pure.

Cats are territorial. They don’t appreciate a new cat violating that. It’s okay if they grew up together as kittens.
I could never sleep with my door shut lol My two dogs guard the house all night and have to bark at everything, there is no way that they would tolerate the door being closed 😂

I have a blind dog. I do not move furniture etc without warning him then I tap it when it's in the new and when/if I move it back. He shows me his appreciation with snuggles.

I have a deaf cat and it is a blessing! Without him, my world would be empty and boring.
Maybe you've done this but my deaf girl loves it when I hold her on my chest so she can feel when I sing or hum in lower tones. I imagine she takes it as me purring back at her.

Was watching this on my laptop which is on a desk in front of a window. Felt like I was being stared at. I was. My outdoor kitty Penny was looking up at the window--highly on alert, tail twitching, wanting to make that strange cat stop yowling! 🙀 I had to turn the volume off. Donut apparently has a really effective meow. 😸

From what I’ve heard once. White cats often have deafness. Much like orange cats having one brain cell
Absolutely true. My beloved cat daughter, Sox, died of Squamous cell carcinoma, cancer of the jaw at 17. She wasn't deaf as is common in white cats, but this cancer is also common in white cats. She died in 2002, and I still miss her 😢 😺

It's certainly one of the things that is too keep an eye out for if you have a fully white coated cat like Donut here that they do run a increased likeliness of being deaf in a similar way that if you cat's eyes remains blue even into a adulthood you might have a cat that was born deaf if they both have a full white coat and blue eyes as a adult but deafness in white coated cats in general can be partial as well so it's very much a good thing to get figured out pretty quickly really.
Only male cats with completely white fur are deaf. It is a genetic anomaly. But they are adorable.
I remembered a guy had a blind and deaf white dog he used the method of blowing his breath to the pup while it was sleeping and that would wake and not startle the dog. It was very sweet. It probably still is on youtube.

My cat chases me sometimes and i chase her back. When she gets the zoomies. She never claws or screams though. Her eyes just get huge and tail gets poofy

Our cat is 20 years old and still has plenty of energy. About 4 years ago he began caterwauling likely due to feline dementia. His wails remind me sometimes of Eraser Head's baby (See the Lynch film). He has and is a character.

White cats can have genetic problems such as deafness.

My cat Kona looks the same as Donut and he's deaf meows loud too he's no different than my other cat's ❤
Comments are quite wrong, it's just that the gene that defines the whiteness of the coat and usually blue eyes, is a dominant gene and they usually have 50% to be deaf because the cells associated with hearing do not develop.
Only goodhearted people know how to care and love, handicap animals. Bravo to this couple for doing so.

These people are great pet owners! I would be so frustrated and unhappy with the constant disturbances (which is why I don't have any pets), but they seem to find the experience all the more rewarding for Donut's idiosyncrasies. I love that for them, and for Donut!

This reminds me of my old cat I named orange, they were exactly like this except the loud screams and they weren't deaf. They understand every word I say and when I want them to come or watch tv with me they actually sit near me, this made me burst into tears. My family kicked him out because he kept pooping everywhere but he was a kind and loving fluffy companion. Thanks for making this. It reminds me that there's always a better cat sometimes.
