    Wow a Faust Music stamp! They were a tiny drum shop in Milwaukee right around the corner from me. The owner was weird as shit, didn't let anyone in the shop unless he knew you were gunna buy something. Dude never used a computer and relied on rotary phones for orders. They shut down in about 2013 after the owner died. There's a lot of little Milwaukee lore surrounding that shop. Worth a good to read some articles.

Now comes the hard part- finding people near me to buy the drums for a good price!!

    Fibes snares can sound awesome. Buddy Rich used one even after moving to another company. He replaced the lugs and throw off to hide the fact it was a Fibes shell. It can sound like a gunshot. Powerful sound.Great find on the Tama snare!

    • @tonygourley4896
      @tonygourley4896 Před 4 lety +1

      Wow, i really dig old Slingerland drums made in Niles,IL. (Chicago). I have a 1972 4 pc. (5x14, 14x20, 14x14, 8x12) i've had over 25yrs in rare sparkling pink -matching snare. Also a early 70's Sound King (chrome over brass) 5x14 10 lug snare, and a 1964 14x22 sparkling red bass drum, i love em'. You said yours is a 60's satin flame, the first kit my parents bought me when i was only 9 was a 1960's used kit in gold satin flame, i still remember the sizes, 14x18 bass, 14x14 fl.tom, 8x12 tom,w/chrome over brass 5x14 snare -8 lugs. The rare satin flame colors for Slingerland are : aqua (green), lavender (purple), and the elusive color tangerine (gold-orange) some call it marmalade. You did'nt mention the color of yours, but it's cool because all classic Slingerlands are highly collectable, and most importantly, sound fantastic. I had to comment to a fellow Slingerland drummer, i'm sure you dig them as much as i dig mine. ROCK ON my friend. Bob.G

    I own an April 1960 Ludwig marching snare, 10x14, with wooden hoops and claws instead of the style of the tension rods you have. Mine was painted, not wrapped, in a blue/silver/blue sparkle. Mahogany wood, with maple hoops. Sounds so unique. The only snare in my collection that sounds like that. Worth having around for all kinds of reasons, but if you can get a stand to sit low enough, they make decent old-school rock snares.

    I'm really diggin' that Fibes SFT690 1970's snare (too bad about the bearing edges), i always wanted one in the brushed copper finish. Buddy Rich lost his endorsement by Rogers in the 60's because they caught him playing the SFT690 on the Tonight Show & all his shows of that time with the Rogers kit , he said he liked it better than the Rogers snare drums because it has the high end cut ring (bouncing off that fiberglass) and he say's it's much more sensitive. I know all those Fibes fiberglass drums are very loud with lots of overtones, sought after by quite a few drummers. Very cool video, man. Bob.G

    Hey Mr. David, I’m not sure if you read your comments, but I wanted to ask you a question. Before quarantine, I started playing the kit in my church. I strictly had to stick to snare, hats, and the ride cymbal due to lack of room. I recently learned that it’s possible to convert a 14” floor tom into a fully functional kick drum. Not only would it expand my creativity with some of the church songs, but I think that it would be a pretty cool experiment. Would you be willing to help me out this summer?

      @Lord_Sweeper Před 3 lety

      Astronaut yeah I’m not in the business of giving things to rich people when they have tons of them already.
      But if you hit all the antique stores in your area I’m sure you’ll find one, or something close to it. This one was found in an estate sale where the building collapsed and there was tons of water damage. The shell is misshapen, the hardware so rusted that it fell apart, and the hoops were completely warped and cracked. I gave this drum a new life, it now sits in a practical application, so maybe we just have a basic philosophical difference, but I hope you can find one to donate to a museum or whatever lol.

    • @simaojoseph
      @simaojoseph Před 3 lety

      dylan jaco dude I don’t have that reference on the availability of those type of drums. I’m on the other side of the pond. And in a country where people over-estimate even an 80s Tama. So no 50’s Slingys on sight. By the photo it didn’t look that bad. Have a nice one.

    • @Lord_Sweeper
      @Lord_Sweeper Před 3 lety +1

      Astronaut there’s tons of them here. They’re like 150 dollars online. These were the most the most basic of slingerlands marchers, they’re well documented, but I have no need for a 30’s parade snare. So given that the makeup of the shell is the exact same as the new dw mahogany snares that cost upwards of 900 dollars, it only makes sense to put new hardware on it.
