At first, November 19th, 2004 seemed like a regular game between 2 of the NBA's best teams. Then, Ben Wallace pushed Ron Artest, starting a fight between the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons that would ultimately lead to Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson jumping into the stands to fight the Detroit Pistons fans. The Malice at the Palace was the worst night in NBA History and, here is the story of that night.

"Yo bro let's throw a beer at an angry 6'7 professional athlete who could bash us both"
Hal Jordan are you white?
HILARIOUS DUDE
Yaaaah les go bro
**5 seconds later**
Bro hes getting up
@Willis Patterson I agree this man u fan should stfu but go watch some best goal highlights or best saves compalation and you'll see that soccer/football is a really physically demanding sport and takes alot of talent to play. But ofcourse basketball does to and every other sport.
@MUFC How is football massive in over 240 countries when there aren't even 200 countries on earth?
I blame the fans for that. You throw beer in another mans face, you deserve to get rocked.
agreed
agreed
but he got the wrong guy
W
yea
Piston fans: *throws beer at artest*
Artest: *fights back*
Pistonfans: *suprised pikachu face
pacers: flee while being protected by grownups
That's Detroit for you!
Lol
@Keyboard Legend lol nobody knows u kid😂😂
@Keyboard Legend im13!!!
that fan in Detroit is literally the reason why the NBA rules went super strict and why the league is so soft now
What with the connection? Oh yeah yeah
That's probably why
Are you so stupid that you think this was the first and only time a beer was thrown on a player?
@@williamgajeski8548 Yeah, they kinda did, if that fan never threw that drink at Artest, the league wouldn't be as soft as it today.
Even if it didn't happen then it would've happened some point later on down the line. Maybe during the whole LeBron leaving Cleveland thing. The strict rules prevented at least a few brawls all these years
I still blame the Pistions fan for this entire situation.
Me too.
I mean, there;s no question that he deserves a healthy amount of blame, and he was certainly punished rightly.
But how on earth do the players who went into the stands get none of the blame? That's absurd unless you're a Pacer fan.
+Snakie they did cause that
EXACTLY
L8GEND 360 So Ron Artest had no choice but to run into the stands? Stephen Jackson had no choice but to follow him?
"Durr let's throw beer at an enraged 6"7 player."
Lmao ikr
lmao
Truuuuuu
probably drunk
Probably not his first beer
I dont think anyone can control their temper if they got a beer thrown on them
Well it's a choice.
@@cbcimutebi5564 some people just need an ass kicking so bad that they learn from a mistake. some dont learn and those are the ones that end up getting blasted
Yep!
i could for ten million dollars
Nobody asked him to control his temper. Just his actions. Pretty simple.
Imagine some other random fan blocked Green's cup from hitting Artest. That guy would be such a hero and nobody would even know.
Tyler Robbins nah he would have been a hero, too bad it didnt happen anyway
Tyler Robbins yeah it’s amazing seeing someone’s career destroyed haha so funny!
I wish Twitter was around during this fight lol the memes woulda been hilarious

I don't blame artest with all the emotions going on in the game the last thing he wants to happen is a fan throwing beer at him. That set him off and pushed him over the limit.
if i was sure aboutnthe guy that spilled beer over me id have punched him to death 100%
only problem is he fought the wrong dude lmao
+hehe xd not spilled thrown
ya I don't blame metta he's been through a lot he did the best to stay out but the fan really messed up but he just hit the wrong fan and david stern knows he wouldn't make money if the pacers was in the finals so Detroit was in instead
Ya, this was all started by the Pistons. Ron Artest, does have a temper though. PacersForLyfe
Artest: Fights
New name: “World Peace”
Ava Gomez he’s a walking oxymoron....emphasis on the MORON. Hate that guy.
And knocking James Harden’s head off his neck

OkieTeacher Hate is a strong word look at steven jackson’s interview about this in “All the smoke” on yt and you’ll understand more. Your a teacher so you know you should see all the information before you judge
Metta world war was trying to resolve himself into meta world Peace.
I cant blame Ron Artest because he is already mad and then someone throws a cup of beer at you. That fan should be ashamed
that fan should have been the one that he grabbed
are you kidding? if you're making millions a year for playing a game, the least you can do is control your temper. he should have been kicked out of the league completely for this meltdown
Blame both of them. You gotta control yourself.
Jacob who gives a shit, all he did was relax n some fan just decided it wasnt enough and started a whole nother brawl
Nah, Detroit just defending Big Ben 😤
i only feel bad about the wrong guy getting hit
Omi Casillas ya
Same
so true
That dude was jumping up and cheering for the fact that Artest had got hit with a the beer. There's better footage out there of his face having pure joy that Artest got hit, then slowly turning to horror as he realized a 6'7 dude was running straight for him. It was great.
Yeah he got a check though

yeah but before this incident ron was a mess getting fines suspensions ejections techs acting out like a modern day rodman and he had been kicked off the bulls for basically being a distraction to the vets and to the youth a bad influence regardless of his talent ..honestly dec. 2004 we could all see it coming..the more fame he got the more he acted out on the court..we found out he would drink henessy at halftime..this dude was crazy....but man what a talent...ruined what should of been his year...he was having mvp type start to the year before this
jonathan fanfan this is the most incoherent sentence ever written. What does it even mean?

If im right Ron actually suffers from Intermitent Explosive Disorder. Which is a condition which means if someone with it loses their temper their rage is extreme.
I’ll never forget that. I was a kid and I was at my friend Matt’s house for his birthday party and we were watching this game. I’ll never forget the malice at the palace it was so shocking

Me too! I was at a bar when it happened, so you can only imagine how rowdy it became after that punch. Lol
One of the last times I watched the NBA because of their reaction. Breaking that team with those suspensions was criminal and I’m not a Pacers fan. The NBA was no fun to watch after this because of how the NBA reacted.

below this comment is literally someone saying that 😂
This was the most intense rivalry in the NBA in the early 2000s. This incident killed in the Pacers franchise for several years, and put a dagger in any chance of them being a dynasty. The Pistons and Pacers hated each other back then. You have to remember, this incident happened just 5 months after the 2003-2004 Eastern Conference Finals when the Pistons eliminated the favored Pacers. The Pacers had won 61 games that season, they were the number 1 overall seed in the playoffs, and many believed they were the favorite to win the NBA title. Ron Artest was playing like a top 3 player in the NBA, they had a deep bench, Jermaine O Neal was a baller, Stephen Jackson was a baller, Jamaal Tinsley was a baller. They were a complete and solid team on both sides of the ball.
Fast forward 5 months later. The Pacers were the favorites once again to win the of the Eastern Conference. Jermaine O'Neal was solidifying himself as a MVP candidate. Ron Artest would've easily won Defensive Player of the Year. They already steamrolled out the gate to a solid record, and they took it to the Pistons in this game. Slaughtered them, and the game wasn't even close. Then the Malice at the Palace happens. This incident killed the Pacers season, they fell off a cliff, and they never would be the same again after this. In fact they wouldn't have a winning record until the 2011-12 7 years later. Had this incident not happened, I think the Pacers would've been a dynasty team much like what the Warriors have been. They were that damn good.
So the lesson here is if you're famous and getting attacked by fans you can't defend yourself. Such BULLSHIT, I would've done the same thing.
Getting liquid on you isn't being attacked. And you probably wouldnt have thrown 5 million dollars away because you were wet. Or maybe you're Artest level dumb, I don't know.
kraqah actually have a drink thrown on you can be considered assault jsut look it up dude Lmfao. Plus if it was me I still would have snuffed the dude who threw the beer doesn't matter where we are disrespectful as fuck
physically attacking someone for throwing beer is without a doubt worthy a year suspension
All those politically correct people saying "he gets paid and it's unprofessional" and shit need to shut the fuck up! That don't mean put my dignity behind me and suck it up. Someone throw something at me, I got the right to strike em back. But then again, I'm an Aries, and we're known for breaking the rules. Especially when it deals with putting up with BS.
kraqah I don't mean this one case, look up fans getting called racial names or being hit, their not allowed to do shit. And I don't mean the drink, that dumbass completely overreacted, there were other players in the video being attacked by the crowd but suddenly when the player hits back, he's the fucking bad guy
Had to come watch this after the Rondo Paul fight

Im a hoosier and was a die hard pacer fan. I was 13 years old when the malace in the palace happened, i was so pumped for that year. Still am a pacer fan but this def tainted them for me. Also worth noting this was reggies last year. Such a bummer
As a Pacers fan, this event is one of the things that pisses me off the most! The Pacers had fought for SO LONG to be a consistent contending team. And, now, they were the best team in the NBA. Then, childish tempers ruined it all! We will never know how good the Pacers might have been, without the malice at the Palace.
Yep for sure the league let it happen.. things occurred before this and nothing done.. the league is so stupid collecting money and forget real ethics..
the jermaine o'neal punch is one of the most satisfying things I have ever seen
Yes!!! Yes!!!
Man can you imagine if his foot didnt slip a bit before landing that punch? He may be behind bars as we speak for caving in that dudes face.. lol
Yep the guy squared up and proceeded to get decked by O'Neal. So sad he slipped. Idiot for coming onto the court.
Is it just me or is Ron look like metta world peace

so this whole thing was started by a fan
Martian Man basically
more like ended with a fan because it was at first between the players. After the fan threw a cup, the players weren't even at each other any more.
P.S. The Pistons and all other players would see eye to eye on Artest situation as some hecklers in the crowd be doing stupid shit and need to get knocked out.
Martian Man yep
No it was started because Ben Wallace was a little bitch and overrated to a little hard foul.
Bormannator no, because they were calm after a shove, but the fan began it all over again, after all it's was just competitive emotions but the fan triggered it for attention
Your video is the only one out of all the other of videos that I've watched that uploaded the brawl, where I understood what happened because you explained, slow downed and pointed out scenes. Thank you.
Of all the videos I watched about what happened in this fight, this is by far the best coverage and explains everything, Good Job!

Gsw chocked worse though
I heard draymond was saw kicking Ron artest in the balls
The guy who threw the cup ruined Ron artests' career
100th like 😀
He himself destroyed his career. Sometimes its good to be calm rather than losing your temper
His temper mainly ruined it he didn't have to go into the stand just because of a petty situation
That's like saying, "The little girl who ran across the street while i was drunk driving ruined my life." Your own idiotic actions ruined your own damn life.
Dude, I don't know too many people that would run into a stand to try and beat the shit out of someone for having a plastic cup of beer thrown at them. I've gotten into fights for having glass bottles thrown at my head because glass bottles actually fucking hurt, could potentially kill someone and one of them shattered on my head but a plastic cup is a plastic cup, he barely would have felt it. Getting angry about it I can understand, but not to the point that you deem it being reasonable to climb over seats and try to beat the living shit out of someone.

Ron Artest aka Metta World Peace would redeem himself in a way by winning a championship with the 2010' Lakers & then auction off his Ring for $750,000. & then donated the entire sum to charity!
(I believe it was for Mental & Health Research).
And Metta World Peace would thank his psychiatrist during his post championship interview. Somehow that was fitting given what had happened almost six years earlier when he was with Indiana.
'04 Artest = Current Day Kawhi
Kawhi jus didn't get to that point in his career where he starts to take over games but he is in the spurs so that is kinda hard

I was 10 years old at the time and I remember this game because I watched it on TV. Let me tell you, it was crazy to say the least. Ben Wallace was dealing with the death of his brother (according to Stephen Jackson) and it takes a LOT to get him (Ben) pissed off. Reggie Miller went over to Artest and put his hand on his chest while he was on the scores table to calm him down. Long story short, I will never forget it.

It's still BS that Wallace got 6 games. He started everything.
All he did was shove Artest, the dumbass fan who went to jail for throwing the beer started the actual brawl.
Ben Wallace dad died before the game and that is why he was emotional
+Luqman Dahir so artest was in the right he should have hit the fans harder Wallace and the piston fans are to blame
Ben walace didn't punch a fan tho

There was a commentator that stated "Ben Wallace overreacted to a basic hard foul" nobody ever made that point. People blame Artest but he did what anyone would've done in his position.
Professionals should be held to a higher standard. That's why they are professionals
@@5678sothourn professionals are not expected to have things thrown on them and not react to it.... That sounds idiotic
Wallace literally lost his mom just days prior to the game and he wasn’t even supposed to play because of it..., him reacting like that was wrong but overall understandable cause of what he was going through at the time
@@jaggerelliott3621 I'm just pointing out that it wasn't Artest fault like everyone tried to make it. He wasn't the antagonist, he actually walked away and de-escalated.
ohhh for sure, he didn’t make a move to engage back at Wallace after he pushed him in the face which was huge cause he just walked away and didn’t react, I’m just saying none of the players are to blame for the start of the that night cause it was really the fans who instigated it by throwing shit
