Two things to think about that also helped you not win. You thought your opponent was weaker than you when you started the game. That was a strategic weakness on your part and made you play unfocused. A person does not get to that point in a tournament without having strengths to get there. You underestimated your opponent. Because of the underestimation you played slower in the beginning which assisted in causing you the time issue. You lost because of a mental lapse in strategy. You are very good, however, you must never overestimate yourself. It is a consistent tragic flaw for most who lose in situations that require strategy. Study history & you can see it time & time again.

@@aspartameindustry I would like to respectfully disagree. I personally am not mad. It was a mild disappointment at most. Also, click-baiting is not the business of CZcamsrs categorically. I feel, and I can't imagine I'm alone, that click-baiting is the business of less reputable CZcamsrs, which Anna is most certainly NOT. If I saw her channel as ordinary or sub-par, I would roll my eyes and move on. But it's exactly because I see her as being better than that, that I am mildly disappointed. Click-baiting is lying, plain and simple. CZcamsrs lie when they don't have good enough content to stand on its own. Anna has excellent content that can easily stand on its own. She doesn't have to stoop to those lower levels. But again, this is hardly the end of the world.

Thanks Anna! I think from the positions you reached you should have won this tournament. However it's true that playing faster could raise your chances even more!
And one more thing: Don't think too much about winning just play the positions!
When I played our traditional Blitz tournament (around the 6th of December) I always wanted to win it! When I finally won this tournament once (and the only time) i thought that I'd finish second if I drew the last game (which I did). But it turned out that it was sufficient for winning the tournament! What a pleasant surprise! It would have been even harder had I known that a draw would have secured me the victory in this tournament! That's highly psychological - the pressure under that you'll put yourself! Failure will be programmed in most of those cases!

I enjoyed it very much Anna. Thanks for your commentary. Wishing you luck in increasing your speed. Wish me well in trying to reach a rating of 1800 on all 60+ puzzle categories. Currently stuck at 1400 on the Defensive Move puzzles which I find far harder than the other handful of puzzle categories I have so far understood and reached 1800.

I always told my children when they were learning to play that they really have to focus when board control shifts to your opponent. That's when we tend to start gambling.
It appeared you had him until you gave up your first bishop and it didn't really look like that weak of exchange.
That what I liked about chess not the exchange of pieces but the subtle change of power and what I could learn from my defeats and sometimes wins.

Anna pro tip: from watching your blitz and classical games, what i see is that you can play both time controls very well, but you panic when switching time control in between a game. like having lots of time and needing to blitz in the end.
