I know some people are upset at him not being 'polite' but i don't see that he did a lot wrong. He shook her hand at the beginning and end with a smile at the end. He isn't obligated to stick around and talk afterwards. If he wants to go and reset for the next round, that's completely fair enough. I've encountered this player Daniel Fernandez in my local chess scene and he seems a friendly enough guy- there's a lot of unjustified hate in these comments.
Finally someone with common sense. Maybe he also didnt want to talk in front of a camera, or he had other places to be. I dont understand all the "impolite" comments about him.

I would argue, Anna shook his hand but he didn't shake hers. In the USA, a handshake like that will loose you the job before you even get to the interview.

Grandmasters have the moves in their head. That is why they will look up and see the chess pieces in their mind.

I know he is a Grandmaster 2500+ but that was very impressive indeed. Anna not Qd8, but Qd7 don't know if it would have been better just looked at it quickly, I think it works from instinct.

Maybe verbal descriptions of players and pidgeon holing them into categories demeans the beauty or appeal of the game for some. That's understandable, not extroverted, but understandable.

@@XxKidnoffxX You're absolutely right. It surprises me there isn't more resistance to video recording in public. As a viewer I enjoy watching but it would take someone like Anna to persuade me to be in one. I'm far too self conscious to even compete in a chess tournament. Doubly so if someone streamed it. But on the other hand it's no accident professional athletes are contractually required to give press conferences. If a tree falls in the forest and no one sees or hears it, it didn't happen as far as public promotion is concerned.

In the 80s in Romania the Grandmasters played only in closed tournaments or in team matches. In such a team match I was able to play against a GM. I managed to draw with
perpetual check but then I lost to all IM or FM. Thank you for the video, it was instructive!
yes anna i played 3 times a grandmaster .2 times christian gabriel and online fabiano curuana .chrisian was about 10 or 11 years old and i felt like playing against a wall.the same feeling i had later online against fabiano .it was a great joy playing and watching him

Brand new subscriber here! Love this video. I love chess but I only play against friends and such, so I'm as amateur as it gets. I don't really have the ability to follow super complex moves in real time in quicker games like this (it's fine if I'm given the time to analyze the board, though). The way you explain your moves, the reasoning behind them and the match as a whole, was fantastic. Thanks for the video, definitely looking forward to watching more stuff like this :)

That's far more rude than anything this polite gentleman did. If someone didn't want to engage in small talk or flirt so they can get clicks and likes, then they have that right. He did nothing rude or indecent. Again...your attitude is far more egregious and impolite. People these days feel like they're entitled to everything and it's disgusting.

Don't psyche yourself out with things that don't matter. Him looking around "like a grandmaster would" has no bearing on the game. He knew exactly what he was doing. Focus on Anna, not the other person. You are doing great Anna. Part of the learning process at that level of play. Just know we are here to support you, Anna. You are still so very young for that level of play. Maturity and discipline will come in time. I'm sure your parents are proud of you just like we are.
She was not looking at him during the game and was focused. Those comments were made after the game while watching the recording. It's not like we're listening to her thoughts mid game.
Nice presentation , Anna ! I have had the chance to face some grandmasters over the board. My first attempt was a draw after being almost lost from the opening on a simul . Next year played again on simul another , was losing but i had a chance to draw on a rook endgame. 3rd attempt was on a blitz , got a promising position, ruined it and lost very easily. Its very nice having very strong opposition where the opponent is "forced" to take the game . The weaker side always gains something. Apart from experience, you test your openings prep at the max level possible

I've never even SEEN a GM. I was never rated, but played around 18-1900. About 30 years ago I played a NM (2200+) a 5 hour game in a Air Force Base regional tournament. We got down to pawns and a King. After the game, he showed me a King move that would have gotten me a draw. Even though I lost the game, it was the best game I ever played. I am now 72... my game started going downhill at about 45. Back in my day, GMs were like rock gods... no CZcams, no internet, just pictures in magazines. Nowadays on CZcams, GMs seem to be a-dime-a-dozen. But I haven't lost my bearings, I KNOW how big they are. Hats-off to all who show up here. CZcams for President! Thanks Anna.
At the end of the video, not only were you and your opponent (your smile / humor about this is great) opening with the cow but it looks like the guy to your left is also setting up to play the cow. I really appreciate your videos. You have a great spirit and you have encouraged me to start playing chess!

I only ever had the honour of playing with one Grandmaster, in 1971, who happened to be world champion at the time! Will never forget it.

I played a Danish GM in RD 1 of a local (NZ) tournament and gained the advantage -- it was a standard game -- but he spent a lot of time and his time kept dropping to less than 3 minutes and then less than 2 seconds etc...I couldn't offer a draw, he knew he was lost in effect, but I fantasized some fantastic idea he might have, and made a quick move...then his game was easier....not winning but I had lost the big edge....I played the Rubinstein against 1 c4 and he went for a b4 idea as White...He was good about the game, he won, but it was an experience. Very exciting even though I lost....

Confidence is good and important but it won't get u to win against a GM.
I have played this guy, he was really pleasant. He was very encouraging after the game, though I lasted fewer moves than Anna.

Once. In a small Swiss tournament in Chicago 1979. I saw that if I won my first two games (I did) I would get paired against Raman ... Ramen .. Ram .. Djindjidashvili, just like it sounds (your spelling may differ). A classical V. G. Gambit (von Goom Gambit), similar to Volga Gambit, in that I was a pawn down after 7 moves.
Up until this game, I had played 1. d4 about as often as Bobby Fischer prior to his 1972 match with Boris. Main difference to Volga Gambit is that I had white and absolutely no compensation for not knowing the move order.
Good demonstration of how strong GMs are. It looked like all of your moves were quite logical, but they so easily somehow get a dominant position
its always crazy to watch. they just little by little keep their position strong, and then pounce at the perfect moment. Even if you can manage to get any advantage, in the words of Danya (i think) "you have to kill us at least 3 times"

5:00 the panic >< you had a lot of pressure and build up for the long dark diagonal.
I’m think knight f4, rook f4, rook f6 or dsb d6 all looked like moves to better serve that initial plan ><
The moment I start thinking I have to defend 1 minor piece rather than continue building up the attack, is often the turning point from a winning position to losing one ><
Blocking his dsb paved they way for a king side attack and pressure build up, but you fought for middle and removed the congestion that highly benefitted you
Yes, I've played a few. Drew GM Lars Karlsson in blitz in my youth. To the surprise of everyone basically (I was rated around 2000 at the time).
Anna you played one heck of a game don't let this discourage you at all this is just something you can learn from. Plus don't forget that you have faced Grandmasters like Aman before and won so the gifts and graces for you to get to the next level are there.

I played Var Akobian in a 30 player simul and then in a 5 minute blitz in a bar. Of course I was demolished both times. He was very friendly.
I was playing against international master John Donaldson in a simultaneous of only 10 people. Soon it got down to only 4 of us.
I felt incredibly lucky because I got to play an extremely complicated brand new variation of the Benoni as white. I looked so complicated he spent the most of his time on my game. Being only around 1900 though, it was way too complicated for me. So I felt I had to exchange a few pieces to come to a near endgame. If I had only looked at the next move, I would never had done that, for it instantly loses to a queen enterening the 7th. You think a rook on the 7th is losing for the most part. A QUEEN demands instant resignation!

This is why I avoid the championship/open sections. There's a reason why there are rating sections e.g. reserve/booster, championship/open sections, or open, U2200, U2000, U1800, U1600, etc. Saw Alex score 8.5/9 at the Sardinia chess festival in the U2000 section (Open B). A sub 2200 competes in a field of senior masters, GMs, and super GMs wouldn't stand a chance. I wouldn't even think of competing in open sections of any USCF event, or any OTB event back in my high school years. That game was hard to watch as he easily exploited every mistake she made and became a one sided game.

It felt like you were confused at the beginning and played reactive and defensively but I understand why. He was somewhat unconventional and seemed to have a game plan and he executed it perfectly. You tried which is all you can do, Anna. Keep going :)
As a 14 year old boy I once played against a grandmaster, Jan Hein Donner, it was a simultaneously game. The local organiser offered fl 7,50 if you would get a draw, and fl 15,00 if you would beat him. after 8 or 9 moves i thought what the hell and offered him a draw, he looked at me for a few seconds, started to laugh and shook my hand!

Somethings it seems about his playing you. He seems to know your moves whether watched some of your past games or knew some of the moves you made, from watching and studying the moves. He has a quick mind knowing moves ahead of play that you could make, then knowing how to counter back. Another thing was not using your bishops to help with the knights or queen on the open pawns.

I played a grandmaster once removed. I played my dad, and he played I want to say Mikhail Botvinnik, because he visited his work, and my dad was the strongest player there. This was in USSR a while ago. I was a kid, and my dad died a while back, but I remember him telling me about it, and he had a signed chessboard, but I'm not 100% it was Botvinnik.

That's apparently rude..but conveniently forget she abandoned a game she AGREED to play. Up until she found out magnus was in the park. Then she asks to ditch him and the game and go see and play magnus instead. Which i honestly don't even remember if she even found that guy to play their game after she ditched him. The double standard in the comments is unreal.

I actually Googled, has a human ever beaten Stockfish, and I find this video from 3 yrs ago.
Using only 1 cpu and making moves Stockfish didn't wanna play and he calls this a win.

Anna at 4:30 Bishop to D6 would have been a better and stronger move, by moving your Knigth you gave the green light to his Queen to advance. I know 3 minutes is not enough time unless you are Nakamura, Carlsen or Faustino.

In the middle of the 80ies of the last century i had around 2.080 national rating. In rapid chess i was way better. And so it happened, that i beat in a fun rapid chess game Wassyl Iwantschuk. Then we played 20 more games and there was no light for me. He was 17 at this time and had around 2.500.
It's super interesting that he looks like he's playing the game in his head, where you are totally focused on the board. So that's what grandmasters do ... hunh!
The mistake was the move threating the knight instead of moving the bishop in 4:26? 🤔
What’s more devastating was the fact that he got up and left, for sure she wanted a rematch with the grand master.
