Love these Blitz style recaps where you talk over the actual game footage. Really cool! Please keep doing them!
Yes, indeed, without all those variations (with or without the engine suggestion) very interesting in other contexts, but not in the tell of a match.
Anna's problem is that she thinks according to the opponent's rating. We have seen going for draws at very promising position against better rating and losing to lower rated players by playing risky. A famous grandmaster of the past was once asked with whom is he going to play on the next round of a tournament and he responded ''I have the black pieces against white'' . This is what everybody should think about during a game.
Ratings are relevant though if someone has a much higher rating it’s going to affect how you approach the game and as well with lower rated players
I agree, in fact when I play online against random people I try not to look at the name and ELO of the other player. I just want to focus on what happens on the board
Rating is how well you played last month.
Now if a player is 50 and has been floating for decades, then sure. Their rating is how good they are.
But when it comes to young players, they could easily be way better than their rating because a month is about a third of their entire life.
rating is not everything.
I don't think Anna's problem here is underestimating her opponent it is more that I feel she tends to overthink in blitz games, calculating numerous moves making her get in time trouble which makes her accidentally blunder her pieces
ive watched 15 or 20 of anna's blitz games and it always seems like she takes way too much time early... White or black she is always a minute or more behind by mid game... Which usually puts her in serious pressure for end game, which she blunders half the time... Still worlds ahead of me, but just something i noticed
I agree. Time management is a recurring issue in her losses.
she is too slow, like her mom. maybe some adirol would help her in blitz tournaments?
She puts too much pressure on herself to avoid making the wrong decision. I imagine the pressure of having viewers watching makes it feel even more precarious for her to make blunders. Perfectionism gone awry
I think the most impressive thing about her was how calm she was 🤣 (as someone who panics a lot mid-game 🥵)
A lot of nervous energy in chess games I feel it even if I’m better
I like this format of real-time commentary/analysis of a blitz game. Not sure if the music helps or hurts - it ratchets up the tension nicely but is also unnatural to the situation.
Also, I agree with other commenters here - if you're using your competitors for content then you really should do them the courtesy of mentioning their name in the video and the description (unless they have asked not to be named, of course). It's simple manners.
That background music really fitted with how intense the match was..
Loved the video but I must say... totally agree with this comment. Great choice in background music.
Part of the music reminds me of the intro theme to Star Trek TNG
Fun game to watch! Congrats to your opponent on the achievement. I always find it intimidating when I’m visibly struggling over the board and my opponent is cool, calm, and collected. She looked like a sniper

Holymoly - Bad Time mismanagement!! AGAIN ANNA !! Hope you get well soon !! Keep up the fight !!🙏🙏👍👍
Facts. Lol. Seems this is Anna’s problem A LOT. Always running out of time.
I haaven't played chess in over 40 yrs. But watching Anna makes me want to try it oput again. thanks Anna.
awh anna hope u feel better soon!
Get well soon Anna! You are still the best!
Get well soon Anna. Love your videos.
Nice going Anna! Good luck!
The most important aspect: It's fun watching, and hopefully as well fun playing - always for both opponents.
During the whole game, I said to myself that she had to play Kh1 otherwise with the lack of time there would be a blunder, unfortunately that happened. It's a lesson that I learned from several defeats, when you play f3 or f4 move the king to h1
a discovered check doesn’t have to be a line piece, a knight can get you on h1. I think it’s situational, but it’s definitely important to be aware of what pieces are connected to your king via line piece squares all the time.
Really appreciated this.
Time trouble is Anna's favorite activity 🤣
That was a fun one to watch but I feel so nervous for you, Anna. If you have the desire, you’ll make your goals so, keep it up 👍
El millón está muy cerca🎉🎉🎉🎉
I've never been good at playing chess, mostly because I hate remembering positions and I might be not the greatest strategist to put it slightly. When I was in my best, somehow I ended up in my province / state chess tournament and ended up (after 5 rows of games) in a game with the top 3 in the province. I didn't expected to win and I didn't, but after the game she said I was a challange and that it's a pitty that I'm not playing regularely in tournaments. This was like 20 years ago and I've never forgotten that compliment.
who was your opponent?
@@sauron4313 It was 20 years ago I don't remember. only remember my surprise to 've pass the firsts row of the tournement and my surprise to play with the top 3 of the province in there. Idk if she was well known in the chess comunity. I doubt it was Carolina Lujan because I think she was older than the one I played with and one of the top of the country back then.
@@LUCTIANITO Nice to know. Perhaps you could check your record though (FIDE) if you wanted to know.
Feel better soon!
great editing, Anna! :)
Firm handshake and a murderers smile 😂
Get well, Anna!
Wow! What a crazy match! 😁
Get well soon💪
Feel better Anna
Feel better!
I hope your voice returns soon and you feel well again. Blessings Anna!
Get well soon sweet girl! ❤
Feel Better Anna
Get well soon, Anna !
Wonderful! And I hope you join her in the championship world of competitive chess!
Get well, soon, Anna! :D
Muy buena partida 😃
Bruce Lee 🥋 said decades ago in Enter the Dragon 'Never underestimate your opponent'. 😁
Yoga said that too. My Padawan.
Excellent idea displaying the clock.
Great video. I had a match yesterday against 300 rating lesser…..and got down material and position. fought back but yes. Never ever underestimate your opponent. Ever .
Mil Millones de Felicitaciones Maestra Anna, interesante la partida, desde Bogotá Colombia su seguro seguidor.
she had 40 seconds. My guess is she calculated the line of queen b3 g5 bishop
Get well soon mate
Love the format! GL in future games... Also, the more I watch your videos, the more I start to realize that after a certain rating threshold winning is not about your "hard" chess skills anymore, but about your "soft" skills such as the ability to stay grounded... I think it's the mix of adrenaline and cortisol that ruined the games and careers of thousands of otherwise amazing chess geniuses... Stay strong, Anna! We root for you.
Time is Anna's biggest opponent.
Good recovery Anna! Thank you for the explanation, I thought in the beginning, you were partying too much ;)
Hope you are feeling better now Anna
I hope you are feeling better. I noticed you are on the verge of 1M subscribers, WOW. You are a true ambassador to the sport of chess. Chess Princess
Ooh.. loving the raspy voiceover 😂
9:21 you said that before....the last time you underestimated your opponent
Yeah Isn't she supposed to have learnt that lesson already by now? xD
A bit ironic to dedicate an entire video to this remarkable player yet, never even mentioning her name. 🤷♂️
I am so happy for you. You always learn from your mistakes. I am very proud of you.
The nice thing it's the knight was not trapped in reality, you could have won a pawn there.
Just exchange the other two knights... her bishop has to leave the defense of the pawn to recapture.
Get well soon!
Great video. I am new to this ... how does Anna get more time when there are less than ten seconds on her clock?
I have seen her in a few tournaments before
"Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer".
Is rare to see Anna not talking or smiling while playing only focusing on the chess and traying to win
It feels like Anna keeps learning the lesson to not underestimate someone because of their rating.
Play everyone as though they are a Grand Master then you don’t have to deal with “innocent me” actors! You are wonderful Anna!❤️
:o impressive game, that girl is savage. Also, Anna sounds like a tough girl with the cracked voice hahaha
She almost drew with arjun recently. Very good player
The fact that she was about to press the clock on the otherside
4:30 how to get out with the knight:
my thought, without pause - Nxe4, Bxe4, Nxa6, if bishop comes back - we move back to c7, and then we can retreat to b5
hm, and sf at depth 20 agrees, it says this is the best line with +0.4, next best is -0.4...
I am only about 1500 in blitz and 1700 in rapid, but still sometimes I see top engine moves in a blink.
would have done the same. but why N? it should be K right? Knight and not Night..
@@musicjunk1000that's because king is also spelled with k.
@@nachogamer4212 ok i see, but it would be more equal to use Kn and Ki :)
@@musicjunk1000 umm no. That would just make things more complicated as you'd feel obligated to do the same with the other pieces and nobody wants that.
3 minutes is not enough time for good chess. 5 minutes is short enough.
Good game. Anna feels embarrassed that she didn't know her opponent's strength, but I think it was nice to see Anna play for the win. The game was equal until the blunder in the end, and entertaining to watch.
Get well soon!!
Seems to be a theme. Play controlled book opening chess and Anna doesn’t know it.
Anna over extends into a messy position then runs out of time and blunders.
Fun game! Please take care of yourself and hope that you get well soon!
Don't worry because Its is really hard to think if your not feeling well
She's a great player
she set up the cow with one of her knights lol!!
Music is quite facinating
She has a perfect pronunce
Wow, Anna struggling with time trouble.... did not see that coming :)
?????????????????????????
Exactly. This easily could have been a win, it is literally time trouble only.. Anna, work on it ! D:
@@TheMixxon2 Aye, it's a recuring theme she's well aware of, and has spoken of herself. And sadly, conquering it still seems a little ways off. Hopefully though, one day :)
@@jfergs.3302 Yeah time trouble is an incredible thing. I play 1 minute bullet chess everyday, and you will not even believe during how many games I will forget to look at the clock even ONCE. I in auto mode try to make every move faster than my opponent but it doesn't always work obviously. Every time. You get immersed and just forget about the clock.
It’s her calculation. It causes her time trouble because she miscalculates everything. She needs to work on square control and candidate move calculation. Something happens that she doesn’t expect like Ra7 in this game and she has to start all over again. (After calculating the wrong line she thought the opponent would play).
Any day now, Anna. 1,000,000
What abt h4 instead of castling? Thats how i used to play this
At 1:04 it’s interesting. I’m never seen anyone castle this way before. She moves her King first - from memory it’s required (if you touch your Rook first you technically can’t castle in “touch-move” I believe) - but then loops her rook behind the King to occupy the Bishop square. But the Rook move is kind of a nifty little maneuver I think. I’ve never seen anyone do it quite this way before. (All chess players have their “signature moves” I think. Like one cool one is when taking, lifting the captured piece first and using the same hand move your piece to the captured square. Some guys will “click” the pieces for emphasis.). (As a side note the girl doesn’t seem “cocky” but she seems to have real confidence in her ability. It’s like she’s played this game a thousand times before since she moves fairly quickly.)
Es raro, Ana sabia que entrar a fondo con ese caballo apoyado por el alfil era peligroso. Y si, un probervio dice que el ajedrez es un charco pequeño donde puede nadar un mosquito o hundirse un elefante.
Anna: You should consider not playing blitz games & get some instruction in time management, before resuming. Lack of time management skills also impacted
your standard time control games in Reykjavik & Menorca.
The arithmetic of 5 min. games: One has a total of 300 seconds. 5 secs. per move for the first 30 moves, equals 150 secs. 10 secs. per move for the last 15 moves. If you exceed the allotted time on any one move you have to make it up somewhere else.
Whats with the dead-fish-handshakes?
I need to study chess openings, it’s seems that step one is to give the most dead-fish-like possible handshake 😅😅
Yeah, this must be the secret thats gonna make me a GM🤩
Anna: I would like to respectfully suggest that you try a few games where you do whatever you need to do NOT to know what your opponent's rating is. Be blissfully ignorant of their rating! You sometimes think a game will be easy or hard based on your opponent's rating but then you are surprised because they played differently from your expectations. Put a blindfold on as far as your opponent's rating is concerned! Forget your opponent! Just play the pieces! As Bobby Fischer once said: "All that matters on the chessboard is good moves!" (Just a suggestion! I love watching your games and listening to your commentary! So thank you!)
Black is a very talented player, cool, calm and collected and a born winner!
When you play someone you believe to be lower rated than you, you play more confidently and decisively than you do when you play someone you believe to be higher rated. The actual rating, as in this case, is immaterial.
Nice ggs
She made the classic Vegeta mistake which is to underestimate a low class Saiyan.
This girl this girl🤌😅
What was the time of this game? It seems a bit faster than most.
Its so k anna,u did well.
Almost at one million subscribers. Wow!
I also tend to play much worse when facing a "lower-rated" opponent. Lost rapid games to 900 simply by playing absolute garbage moves. It´s incredibly frustrating...
I'm new to chess and stumbled upon this video, can any1 elaborate more about the final blunder Anna made at 8:35 mark?
- I'm thinking the fork would mean white rook have to defend by going e3, but still taken out by black queen. Defending with queen will still leave the rook lost.
- Is there any way for white to defend/counter better before bQueen takes the last wPawn? I'm thinking wQueen to d1 so it protects both pawn and king?
-CMIIW so the reason Anna resigns is not because of checkmate, but because her rook is lost and there's almost no chance for her to attack back with the little time she has and no good pieces left other than Queen?
Get well soon.
6:16 I'm trying to find if Qxd4 would have been a better aggressive move but I'm sure I'm missing something.
Qxd4 is ok. The engine wanted Bd6 which forces a trade of the dark squared bishops and then recaptures with a fork on the black queen and light squared bishop. You then eventually recapture the pawn with Qxd4.
This happens to be amazing for white as their king is under dark square control, they gain a knight further in enemy ranks, they are up tempo, and got the pawn back.
This is insanely hard to figure out in a game though, that’s why the engine is the engine. And why a move like Bd6 is winning and exd4 lost any advantage white had.
dang
Is that barotrauma music at 2:22? That's deep.
Always time at like 50/50 moves midgame.
Anna, why did you record all of these when you are sick ? Don't hesitate to take your time off !
Is the last game ik the video a double cow opening?
Nice game
Sorry to hear that you were sick. I hope you got better since the video is 4 days old as I write this.
