  • Moyashimon: tales of agriculture is one of my favorite childhood animes. If you have 4.4 hours free, maybe give it a watch.
    SPOILER/CONTENT WARNING:
During the "love potion" episode it is implied that two of the characters (both after being inebriated) may have slept together. This could be seen as an issue because they were both not in a condition/mindset to provide consent.

I literally just finished watching Mushi-shi through for the first time and it is just the most beautiful, yet deeply melancholy show. Laid Back Camping. It is set in a high school club dedicated to camping, but the narrator gives advice all the way through the episodes about winter camping in Japan. And the main characters spend hardly any time in the school setting. So good!

Blue period on netflix is really good and very underrated
So far there are 12 episodes and a longer manga
The story is about a delinquent who only knows get better social life and grades (mainly grades) which made him hide his interests in turn for friends. Then he sees the art club and some art pieces they drew in which he is skeptical at first but then throws it all away in turn for trying to go to collage for art.
After it’s about him learning to show more of yourself and learning how to draw. Since drawing is mainly about having fun then a direct algorithm it’s intreating to see how he approaches art
There is also a really well done bi character in the show that doesn’t do the whole little clues that you can miss it type thing.
I highly recommend it also because it also shows the story of an artist quite well
By the way if you like the anime the manga is amazing. The emotions hit harder, the style is amazing, and there is more content

It has trippy aesthetics and has the vibe of 'who is really the bad guy?' plus the main character is a man with a lizard head trying to figure out where his human head went. It has gore and its a fun anime to watch especially with the world building and seeing the limits of their idea of sorcerers!

    @thatsagiantmouse Pƙed rokem +5

Ok yes yes YES slice of life is amazing, arguably the best genre. I am absolutely going to have to check this one out, it sounds neat! Here are three of my fav slice of life animes:
Koizumisan Loves Ramen Noodles is wonderful! It's about a girl who shares her love of ramen with some new friends and classmates. It's one season, about ten episodes.
My Roommate is a Cat is a slice of life about a writer who's dealing with the grief of losing his parents (but that's not the center plot point at all). It's also showing us the parallel story of the cat he adopts and the struggles she went through before finding her forever home. It's a little bittersweet, but so SO good and so beautiful. It's also only one season. I love it so much đŸ„č
I have a special place in my heart for Silver Spoon, which is about a new kid at an agricultural high school. I haven't finished it due to circumstances, but, I have watched the first few episodes several times. It's two seasons so like 22 episodes? Very funny, very chill.

  • @KariNeko12
    @KariNeko12 Pƙed rokem +3

I’d recommend Silver Spoon! It is a high school, but I think it’s a more mature high school setting. They’re at an agricultural school learning about dairy production in Japan and it brings up a lot of poignant themes like the emotional toll of raising animals for slaughter. I think it’s about 24 episodes, educational, and written by the author of Fullmetal Alchemist

My favoruite anime has to be Yuru Camp aka Laid Back Camp. Its super simple- exploring the magic of camping, friends, and food. It also doesn't paint introversion as bad or something to fix. The music is so fun and relaxing- I listen to it when on walks or travelling.
I 100% recommend if you just want some warm fuzzies and amazing food animation. :D

I feel like Genshiken would be up your alley. It's was around the same too. Its set in college as well. Otaku club themed! Also their is a queer character trying to figure themselves out. Even having a crush on one of the male club mates. And honestly how the club and the character they have crush handles it is pretty great. I do think its 24 eps for the first season and then there is a shorter season with the crew that didn't graduate college in the first part.

Tsuritama is only 12 episodes and i can’t recommend it enough

  • @roadkilltoad

Nichijou is my favorite slice of life anime. It's only 26 episodes and it doesn't sound like it'll ever be dubbed. I watched it on Funimation for free with commercials, but plenty of clips can be found here on CZcams. What I like is that it is very much a comedy and the episodes are a bunch of little short segments strung together. There are a few scenes in a coffee shop where the characters struggle to order which is relatable to me. I don't want to give too much away, but I watch this damn near every time I get sick and am couch-bound.

I have a feeling that you would definitely like cells at work, it's an anime that focuses solely on the cells inside of the human body, nothing else outside of it. All the cells have jobs and things to do, places to be, but things come along and interrupt their jobs, or they meet other cells they like, etc. There are some episodes with like big, world-threatening plots, like the episode about cancer, butttttt... it's a show like a slice of life, that each episode is a separate little story with no big over-arching plot, and I really think you should give it a try if you like the cool, molecules and science-y side of things. (I haven't actually finished it yet, but I really do think it's a great show that you should try out!!)

I know this anime isn't really slice of life but it's only 13 episodes. It's something I haven't watch in a long while but it's very near and dear to me and that anime is Serial Experiment Lain.
The best way I can describe it is, watch it with your own take with what the story really means because its very much up to the viewer of what it's about.
The short easy version is a girl named Lain gets very into the internet and computers and loses touch on reality. On what's real and fake, but it's so much more than that.
Slight CW a girl in the first episode unalives herself, they don't shoe anything too graphic from what I remember. But please keep in mind and that also this anime is from 1998 so it's like over a 20 years old at this point.
Anyways that's my recommendation that I can think of now at this moment in time.

And I know that Kofuku Graffiti has a .... reputation, but I honestly don't get the sexy vibe they were going for (then again, I'm ace and watching it made me go "yeah I've had food that made me react like that") as for Worries of a Centaur, it's a alternate universe slice of life where humans evolved really weirdly and had more limbs than we do now. It also gets really super dark at one point involving that world's WWII but I really enjoy it as weird as that sounds 😅

if you haven't checked out Wakako-Zake, they're 2 minute anime episodes about a career-woman in japan and her favorite foods and drinks. Super cute, super short, and there's a live action version as well. K-on! is also really good. There's quite a bit of it, and a couple of movies, but they're super easy to watch.

One of the animes I love is Monthly Girls Nozaki Kun. It’s a funny slice of life about Sakura and Nozaki kun, and the process of being a manga ka in secret, except his friends know and two of them help him with his romance manga series. I highly recommend. Also Lucky Star is a good one.

I'll need to look at my library for slice of life titles, but I tend to like longer anime. Favorite is probably Turn A Gundam, but that's 50 episodes.
What I do think you'd get a kick out of is Ninja Girl & Samurai Master. There's 3 seasons, but each episode is only 3 minutes long. It's set in the Warring States period in Japan, but it' a comedy about a Ninja girl that wants to work for Oda Nobunaga. It makes a ton of historical references, but it's cute and silly and fun, all in tiny easily digested morsels.
For slice of life stuff I usually wind up with movies, like Only Yesterday, A Silent Voice, or more recently Belle which is visually and aurally beautiful.
And you can't really go wrong with Satoishi Kon's films. - Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue, and of course Tokyo Godfathers.
Oh, and Weathering With You - just the detail put into the rain makes it worth watching.

here's some slice of life that might be fun
    for queer rep: jellyfish princess
    - it's about being an artist and also discovering gender expression (for both cis and gnc people)
    - they are college aged
for character growth with nice relationships: barakamon
    - about art block and learning to take care of yourself by changing your environment and finding close relationships
    - various ages, main character is an adult
for group of friends having fun and comedy: acchi kocchi
    - no plot, might not be a good fit but i found it charming and funny
    - high schoolers
    for just,,,weird,,,: flcl
    - no idea how to describe it besides it's 6 episodes and a ride
    mix of everything: flip flappers
    - queer rep, weird setting, nice plot, pretty art
    - high schoolers

"Sunday with out god" is a good anime, only 12 episodes. The art is very different to many that I have watched. There is one over acring story but it is also broken down into 3 or 4 bite sized episodes for the smaller arcs. In the first two episodes there is death but no gore. It is about a 15 or 12 year old girl who is the villages grave digger, and she is forced to leave her village with a big plan to change the world and make people happy. She has to learn that what she thinks will make people happy is not what others want.

Wotakoi, Love is hard for Otaku, only 11 episodes(and 3 OVAs). It's about grown up otakus trying to find love while managing a job and playing/reading manga/cosplaying on their spare time. It's great fun.

One of my favorite animes is Yuri Kuma Arashi
Literally translates to lesbian bear storm
I saw it when I was a kid after reading my first ever anime magazine where it was spotlighted. The imagery is DEFINITELY kinda saucey in some scenes, and they repeat a few times but it’s one of those plots that heavily rely on the symbolism like in Flcl which you’ve mentioned you watched
I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to watch a more experimental Yuri anime with some stunning visuals and mystery plot, it gets wacky with it’s plot but I feel it’s genuinely heartfelt and sweet

I loved moyashimon! it is really entertaining and educational. btw I'd recommend the tatami galaxy (yojouhan shinwa taikei) , it's only 12 episodes with great character design and animation, also focused on college with the protagonist trying to join a club to have a perfect campus life, however not everything goes as planned.
The other one is a bit longer but also recommend is Nodame Cantabile, about a girl who wants to be a pianist to play in an orchesta and a guy who wants to direct one. It also starts with them at university. It has 3 seasons but only the first one has 23 episodes, the other 2 have 11 episodes each one.
