Fun fact: she sang this 20 minute set without any music playing in the background. That was to enhance the sound quality to the mic. She prepared for weeks to perform this set. It was touched up post credits but everyone in the film crew didn't hear the music. They only heard her voice. She had ear pieces to hear the music and her voice. But everyone else only heard her live, raw vocal.

what amazed me even more was the fact that this was the 16th song she sang in that one video, god.. her 15th year experience as a singer is unbeatable

Begin again is less produced but I wouldn’t say natural. But we who know her all know she can really sing.

It’s a live singing but yeah like you said, it’s been processed. In korean music industry I don’t know why they are ALWAYS trying so hard to cover the flaws (edited: refer to ‘flaws’ I mentioned > to make it easier for oversensitive fans to understand, well you know it’s just natural imperfection) which human beings are able to have.
For me, Taeyeon is a very great singer, also of fucking course one of my favorite singers, she’s a fantastic storyteller and great at convincing peoples feelings with her singing.
In order for you to be able to hear her rawest singing voice, I would recommend that you try watching her performances from her concert, especially from fancams.

He was right , live singing mean singing without autotune or any editing in the voice, but killing voice and a lot of Korean music shows almost always edited singers vocals even if they don't need to this , and that what happen with teayeon .
If you want a pure live vocals from teayeon , you will find it just on her concert.

I'm sorry, but just because she was singing live in the moment doesn't mean the audio hasn't been digitally edited to hell and back. That's the nature of 'live' live performances. Every single artist, even Ariana Grande, gets their audio processed. It's not unique to Taeyeon, so don't get your panties twisted.
He didn't say Taengu wasn't singing live, he said that it has post-production, which it does. Lots of pitch correction and smoothening to give a better outcome, and they didn't exactly make it subtle. The reverb was super strong. Also reminder that she had to sing 20 minutes straight with no breaks and this was her final song (and arguably one of her most difficult AND she had 0 live stage experience of Drawing Our Moments because her Purpose tour was already set in stone before the repackage came out).
Taeyeon is a capable vocalist, but she's human nonetheless. She makes mistakes, and for projects like this (because she's basically representing a 3rd party in Dingo AND she's there to promote an album), they need the final video to be 100% perfect.
Everything uses pitch correction. It saves time and money. It doesn't make singers less capable, it just makes the outcome more perfect and it costs more money and time to re-shoot/re-record. Even professional Broadway albums use pitch correction. It's just industry standard. Think of it like Photoshop. Does Gigi Hadid use Photoshop on her professional shoots? Yes. Is she ugly? Fuck no.
I've been a SONE since 2009. I'm confident with her abilities that I don't feel the need to have a reactor validate my thoughts on her vocal abilities. Just enjoy the video or, if it doesn't make you feel good, watch something else. Life's too short to spend it being frustrated, haha.

Taeyeon is known for her amazing voice, she sounds exactly the same as the studio version or even better
She is a veteran in kpop and the vocal standard for many idols.
Tae doesn't need any processes in her voice or any computer editing, in fact there is a video where she is rehearsing precisely the songs that she sang during this presentation
and she sounds exactly the same as in Dingo, which proves that she was singing completely live, that it's her real voice, it sounds so good that people think it's fixed or pre-recorded which is a lie.

I haven't seen the rehearsal video and admittedly I am far from being qualified to explain audio editing, but I don't think Sam is suggesting that there's anything wrong with her natural singing. Even if someone sings perfectly live, they might want to process the recording so that we can hear the desired acoustics through our headphones. And since she's singing to a separate backing track, they'd probably have to process the audio so it mixes well despite being from different sources. Granted my only recording experience has been with a phone for school things, so I definitely welcome corrections!

I think you're misunderstanding what Sam is saying. Regardless of the fact that Taeyeon is a phenomenal singer and is singing live, this was still a recorded session. Video editors are literally hired to edit these live performances regardless of who the singer is and how well they sing to "clean up" the audio quality of the videos. While she doesn't "need" editing, it will still be edited.

My definition of singing live is ONE TAKE ACTION. I do not care if it have sound effect or have post editing. Because we listen using speaker, so it mean sound engineer also involve here. Singer should aware of basic sound engineering and know using microphone to make their voice more enjoyable. If you want to listen a raw vocal, do not use speaker or any sound system. Even if we listen same recording, we still can have different perception because we use different sound system and we have different level of listening. Yes, listening is skill. I did some design of audio amplifier (a equipment which amplify audio signal and sent them to speaker).

Killing Voice is a show that only play LIVE, with no bells and whistles beside the background lightning. You should see her entire Killing Voice performance from the beginning. It's around 20 min.
Also check out her neck. That's a lot of tension when she's doing a one off belt
I think , like he said its not like she didn't sing live, its more at the end result that we hear on the video is already touch-up with autotune, not completely raw vocals like we hear in concerts. Which is a normal thing, because channels like Killing Voice, Masked Singers or "It's Live" where they claimed that its live 100% is obviously a lie bcus the editors edit their voice so much to sound "perfect" to viewers. I think the only place where idols can sing 100% live is on radio station.

Killing Voice (the program where this video is from) is kinda known to edit voices which is kinda sad considering Taeyeon as a great "storytelling" strength ! I feel like you can provide different emotions and impact with a less edited live sometimes. But she still as one of my favorite voice and songs on the earth rn :)
There’s a company called mnet and they were doing a survival show last year for girl group called Kepler ( they chosen the girls already ) the show is called “ girl’s planet 999 “and they had done a lot of edits for contestant’s vocals to make it sound believable and it worked. There were videos were people compared the edit and the original and idk if I can trust singers singing live when there’s always a twist to their voice.

I am a person that always has to bring up that there is postproduction to people that think things are purely live. However, I think you are over assuming the amount of postproduction going on here. I know exactly what you are hearing. Her vocals sound way too sharp and smooth for a raw recording. However, I guarantee her voice is doing 90-95% of the work as someone that has heard her sing live. And before people point out bias (which I still am), I only went live because my friend is a massive fan and wanted someone to go with.
As others have pointed out, she is recorded a capella and the music is mixed in afterwards. This stage is likely where postproduction on her voice is happening as well, but as I said, I can attest her voice is extremely solid live

These kinds of "live" performances are usually touched up in the editing portion of the video, and that's mainly because SK has this weird obsession with making their singers and artists sounds unnaturally perfect. That does NOT mean that Taeyeon cannot hit these incredible notes live though. There are unedited fancams out there of her live vocals with little to no backtrack on it, and she sounds basically the same, if not better. And if you want raw and pure vocals, her busking performances on a show called Begin Again will give you that. It's just her voice and a couple of accompanying instruments on the side of the streets in Europe.

Taeyeon doesn’t need any computer editing that you were saying, she has been singing live for 15years and she’s famous for sounding exactly the same (if not better) on her lives versus her recordings. “Taeyeon eats CD again” is a famous liner here in Korea. I’ve watched 3 of her concerts LIVE and I’m gonna tell yall that she doesnt need any “edit” as you were insinuating, her live vocals are INSANE, absolutely insane. It clearly shows you dont know Taeyeon well and this is your first time hearing her, that explains the underrated comment you’ve given her on this review. You should deep dive into her discography some more so you could understand why she is the most renowned, Korea’s finest, as they say. And why she’s highly respected by composers, music producers, and professional vocal coaches. She even got a music ‘Daesang ‘ (highest award you can get in Korea) and Artist of the Year countless times in several award giving bodies in Korea. Wait till you hear her F5, Eb5, and G5.
Try reacting to ‘Taeyeon Top 12 Emotional Singing’, and no “computer edit” can justify her live vocals. Been there physically to most of those concert clips and no way that’s a computer edit. You can even remove the concert band and she can do the full concert in acapella. Her voice is a stand alone itself.
Absolutely agree with this comment. This reactor is not aware what Taeyeon is capable of. Bad for him. I wonder if he can do a livestream and sing LIVE so we can hear his ever so perfect voice “without computer edit” LOL
He never said she needed anything. Most decent singers don't, and she's obviously very skilled and experienced. The post production thing is a stylistic thing and has become the norm in pop music nowadays. Basically, a good singer sings well, maybe even perfect, and still, in post production they add reverb or compression or some type of sound effect to achieve what we associate with the modern vocal sound. If you were older and/or remembered/were accustomed to how older recordings and performances sounded, you would identify this "computer production" easily. It makes singing sound hyper polished and like studio version (because studio versions also have vocal effects). And it doesn't mean she isn't excellent nor that she made a mistake.
This kind of fans did know nothing about how producing a show. This is just sad, twisting every word form the reactor.

hmm I respectfully would like to provide constructive criticism on your lack of research into this artist, which was reflected in your 9 minute video which I gave the benefit of the doubt and finished watching. Similarly, i've never watched a video of yours before and don't know who you are but am having trouble figuring out what the intention of this video was as I didn't really gather any useful info from the perspective of a vocal teacher like I thought this video would be about. I don't think the immediate dismissal of her live singing just because you could hear post-production editing was a great way to start your commentary, and i"m not sure anything you said would be helpful in my making smarter choices for my own voice either...
