  • It’s a big call, but I think this is the BEST affordable performance sedan on the market. It’s damn quick through the corners, quick in a straight line and sounds absolutely unreal.

    A number of people have called out that the car may not have been in “octane learning mode” during the performance runs. It’s a strange thing given the knock sensor should take care of that almost immediately. But I’ll get the car back and run it through the learning mode and try performance runs again to see if it makes a difference.

      I absolutely agree with this, ‘octane learning mode’ to me sounds like a whole bunch of nonsense, engines have had knock sensors for decades, which are used to advance or retard ignition timing. This whole thing about running premium fuel and the car then increasing boost pressure seems rather strange, perhaps the engineers who frequent YT comment sections can educate a scrote like me?

    • @matt.ja90
      @matt.ja90 Před 2 měsíci +3

      @@rsoul7282 it's a BS mode that us N owners complain about but it must be for some kind of engine protection that will only provide maximum boost when it senses the octane rating above 95 I'd assume

      @@matt.ja90 I totally get that, but I don’t understand how the vehicle could possibly be ‘analysing the fuel’, are there a team of dwarves confined to the fuel tank with a chemistry set, or are Hyundai bigging up the knock sensor as if it is some modern marvel of engineering prowess exclusively featured on their cars?

The Golf may come across as grown up and a little dull, but there is 50 years worth of heritage to live up to and I believe timeless design compared to Hyundai's young upstart. I don't think the i30 Sedan will age well with such a polarizing design, however they seem to be selling which suggests there is a market for such a car. @@givvia6782 In the US, we don't typically associate Volkswagen (VW) with 'heritage'. Hyundai and Kia had a bad reputation in the past, but they are working to improve their image drastically. I do agree these designs are not timeless. but so is most new cars. i can't stand to look at the latest bmws.
      I used to be brand loyal, always driving BMW 3 Series, and now I'm on my second X5. However, I'm now considering the Hyundai Ioniq 5N for my next car. I'm really excited about it.
      I've never really been interested in driving a GTI. Here, the GTI is just another car. Maybe the Golf R would catch my attention, but the GTI doesn't. Many people still believe VWs are unreliable; they have a bad reputation for reliability.

    The 0-100 and 80-120 times are very similar to the Sonata N Line, notably the pre-facelift, the 2024 facelift is slightly heavier so it’s a bit slower by a few tenths than the pre-facelift, I don’t think you’ve ever reviewed the Sonata on your channel.

    Looks like it's not octane learnt...shame. And no, the knock sensor won't just "take care of that". Octane learning is a whole other beast and you need to go through a whole 'learning process' which ridiculously resets itself with every tank fill and also at random times throughout a tank of fuel. Hyundai unfortunately chose to nerf this sedan with that horrendous learning BS. I know because I have one. A '22 model. But thankfully a Stage 1 tune fixes that right up and gives you 20PSI all day, every day, the way the car should be from the factory! 👀
    P.S. When learnt you'd get 17-19 PSI on the boost gauge. May not sound like much more but you definitely feel it and you'll get a better 0-100 time.

      It does somewhat compete with the WRX, however the WRX has become more softer and has “grown up” to attract more buyers and Subaru markets the car more of a family sedan rather than a hardcore rally car that it use to be in the 90s and mid 2000s, Subaru have lost their way and have tamed the WRX, it loses almost to every car within its price range in performance testing, it has actually becoming an embarassment, it’s the only car that has become slower and tamer overtime, I mean the fact that they offer the car with a CVT option rather than a performance DCT in the automatic variant tells you all you need to know.
      The Cerato GT doesn’t compete with the i30 N (Hatch and Sedan) it is a class below, it is basically the equivalent of the i30 N Line, which both share the same 1.6L turbo, it is however a very zippy little thing for what it is, it does have some grunt.
