  • Botswana is a landlocked country located in the south of Africa. For the most part, Botswana is flat with a few hills and around 70% of its land surface is covered with the Kalahari desert.
    This country’s history starts more than 100,000 years ago, when the first people populated the region. However, in the past few centuries foreigners controlled it and independence was only secured in 1966. Prior to declaring independence Botswana was known as the British protectorate of Bechuanaland.
    One year after they declared independence a huge area of diamonds was discovered at Orapa. Since then Botswana became one of the world’s largest diamond producers and it earns around one billion dollars a year from diamond mining. The official language of the country is English but almost all people speak Setswana and accept the culture.

    You are so brave. You live my dream, to take my children and so show them the world and how other people live outside the United States... I think it’s wonderful what your doing. What an education to raise your children outside the “box”

    Did you hear any lions roar at night? Once when I was at a zoo, I could hear a lion roar, and it was from pretty far away.

    • @GrowingUpWithoutBorders
      @GrowingUpWithoutBorders  Před 3 lety

      Apparently you can feel your pillow vibrate when they roar. Thankfully we didn’t experience that. 😳I would have been way too scared.

    My fourth trip with you. Just started the video. Love that music, please post the name of the song/artist next time. Love Botswana! Most all US presidents, Bill Clinton, George Bush and others, not Trump, visit Botswana right after the election. Sort of like "you won!, so go relax for a couple of weeks where you're away from everything, and Oh! you'll be staying in a tent!
    I spent 10 months all around that area, Caprivi strip, Botswana and Angola. Just stunning.
    I must bring my family on such a trip. Thanks for sharing.

      It says a lot about the country if all these presidents went there. We found Botswana to be amazing from the people we met to the landscape. It was really nice!
