- Santa Cruz del Islote has an area of just one percent of a square kilometer in size where 816 people squeeze their entire lives.
The island is so full that a guy does his daily workout routine near a dog feces and chaotic life here creates new adaptations.
Since we arrived on the island, we’ve been constantly encountering people no matter where we turn.
People come out from every corner.
It’s impossible to be alone on these crowded streets.
Each house here has dozens of people living together in tiny rooms.
Ruhi: How many people live in this room?
Woman: About ten.
This is an average room of an average house, you will be shocked when you see how other people live.
But these people have a much bigger problem than these houses which makes life so extremely terrible here.

My anxiety levels rose while watching this. A lot of the time I find myself needing complete silence and that would not be the place for me. I do love how there is no crime and resolutions to conflict are easily met. If only large countries could do this!

I’ve just watched 2 of your videos, both of which show some of the “poorest” countries & places in the world. The only thing I’ve noticed is how happy the people are. With the very little to nothing that they have, a lesson that’s bursting through is how much they love the people around them, they work together & they are satisfied with what they have. It is so refreshing to see how human communities should actually be like. I’m grateful for what I have in this life & I pray for these people continue to live long lives blessed with the necessities they need to survive. It’s very humbling watching these documentaries. Thank you for sharing

True, but the overpopulation of the island is going to be their downfall. Unless they find a way to reduce the number of kids per family, it will quickly rise to a critical point where they won’t be able to live there anymore. Climatic change will affect them also eventually (hurricanes, sea level rising…). Pollution already made it impossible for them to fish. Worst, I don’t also see any planning of any kind from the islanders to make their life there possible on a long term.

@@ItisMoody Its probably accurate from the perspective that there hasn't been more than a hundred or so people on the island until recently and most of the people who have died in the last 20-30yrs were that old and didn't really have health problems because the island wasn't crowded back then. That number is bound to drop to 60-70 if they don't start addressing the sanitary and nutrician issues and based on the massive shift in demographics.

For me the fact that there is not a single cop and no one steals, kills or harms each other just because they all know each other and respect the elders is what blows my mind… because why is not like that in every other part of the world?

To be fair, where are you going ro run to? I lived on a 9x4 mile island where car theft just wasnt a crime, because you couldn't take one anywhere without going through the port police.
