      @@GrowingUpWithoutBorders could be that the issue of safety in South Africa is a bit exaggerated ? Especially by the locals ?

    The French settlers there in South Africa were called Huguenots. I've heard that in areas of South Africa where they are concentrated in large numbers, they speak French, English and Afrikaans; and they celebrate the Bastille Day (French Independence Day) in July as a part of their French heritage. I remember reading a short story back in my freshman year of high school that was set in South Africa, and there were French-speaking people in it. It baffled me later on, because I had found out that Afrikaans and English were the official languages of South Africa. However, I came across information about the French settlers there so many years later. By the way, Chantal, I gave your video a thumbs-up. :-)

      Afrikaans inherited a lot of French words. The combination of French and Dutch became Afrikaans, which is very similar to Flemish Dutch. Basically the French adopted the Dutch language and the Dutch adopted the French protestant religion

    Normally traveling is more expensive than staying at home because of the cost of hotels and eating out. was that the case in Africa? so was your traveling in Africa more expensive than if you had just stayed at home in Switzerland? compared to USA?

    • @GrowingUpWithoutBorders
      @GrowingUpWithoutBorders  Před 2 lety

      Probably less expensive than staying home. We’ve always found ways to “hack” travel to be quite affordable. It really depends on where we stayed really. Hotels can get expensive for sure. With our YT channel we’re able to do so many partnerships with all the hotels and attractions that it’s a huge benefit and we don’t outlay as much as we used to.
