I’ve never heard of “My Immortal” once in my life until very recently, and it’s all because of Jacksfilms.
The only thing I know is that it’s a fanfic I think, and I just want to know what the basics of it are and if it’s worth reading for the cringe.
I gave up almost halfway through. Too much cringe. It's a Harry Potter fanfic where the author inserts herself as the MC into the story. Major character from the books are also in the fic, and everything about them has been altered.
DUDE, look up Internet Historian My Immortal. Watch a couple minutes at least. WELL worth your time

It’s a very important piece of literature
Theres so much to it beyond the horrendously written fanfic.
No one knows who actually was the author. One lady who claimed she was the co-author also claimed to be of Native American ancestry who was separated from her brother in the foster system, and that this FF was meant to help her find him. it was revealed she wasn't Native American at all, nor were she in the foster system of New York (contrary to her claim) or foster care at all.
Now mind you, this fanfic was written between 2006-2007, and for such badly written work of fanfiction, this got attention and interest in regards to the identity of the author for over a decade.
And it's still uncertain who they actually are.

I ADORE that someone submitted part of the story My Immortal. All I can hear as soon as I see that tweet is a familiar Australian voice reading out the character description with stock music in the background. If I had YIAY tokens, I'd give them all to you.

i feel like jack missed out on the cultural significance of the Undertale joke implying the spelling Undertail. I wish that were me.
My friends and I turned my immortal into a drinking game and we all read a fair amount of it together that way. It was beautiful.
I have also read some of it with a professor and friends outside of class.( I went to a small college)

The first "make me cringe" YIAY was the first time I saw the word cringe, and a lot of the comments in the vid said "what is a cringe", only afterwards did I notice the increase in popularity of the word. I thought it was jack's video that caused this rise but haven't been able to prove it in google trends. So it was just a small contributing factor.
