Unfortunately, empty belt loops look bad. Better to buy pants with side adjusters or use suspenders. Better to avoid belts in general.
I dont like to avoid belt loops cuz belt loops make pants more casual.
I work corporate and usually u dont need a 3 piece suit for work...
I want pants I can use at work and off work... thats why I like belt loops. Also just buy 2 belts, black and brown and you are set.
Im old now and I prefer practical, versatile and good lookin clothes.
Agreed
I prefer side adjusters as well but I do like the slim western belts
@@Lukas_Schanderl Every time a belt is worn, the outfit is cut into two halves. This breaks the apparent length of the outfit and is therefore less elegant. Of course, the outfit can also be visually cut in half if the top and bottom colours are very different.
True but to find affordable trousers with side adjusters is not that easy.
Great video as always!
Thank you :)
Could you do a video on which hats goes better with different outfits. Cheers
Thank you for the idea :)
I'll have to look into that topic as I have no experience with hats so far.
Can’t wait!
Thank you, Roy 🙏🙌
I agree that the no sock look can work within the parameters you mentioned. The examples you shared that didn’t work were either too formal as you noted or were simply poorly done with too short pants and/or outfits that were too slim fitting. Odd trousers and sport coat are probably the most formal you should attempt with that look
Totally agree :) Thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks Lukas!
Thank you :)
Another great video, my friend! The socks rule is very true. I often use the socks to echo a colour from somewhere else in the outfit exactly as you're suggesting.
I'm also with you on not wearing a belt, and certainly on not needing to match the belt to the shoes. I love what Sonya Glyn over on Sartorial Talks often says, which is to match the belt to the trousers in that case, so your eye doesn't stop at the waist. I will also often just skip the belt if I don't need it to keep the trousers up :)
Brown and black is a tricky one. I don't look at it as a rule, but more a guidance, and I often hear it as "don't mix brown and black unless you know what you're doing." I quite enjoy wearing black with a brown suede jacket over and brown suede shoes for example.
No show socks is one that, like you, I'm on the fence with. I don't do it with suits, as you say, but with linen trousers and loafers? Definitely willing to. :)
I don't typically wear shorts, other than for exercise. I much prefer linen trousers, and they are just as cool for me as shorts are.
Thank you, my friend :)
You also have the right socks to pull it off :)
I agree that the no show socks look is definitely fine in places like Thailand or during hot summer days, given the right type of trousers and shoes :)
@@Lukas_Schanderl I just had another delivery from Mes Chaussettes Rouges. I should be good on socks for quite a while now :).
That's awesome :) Patterned or single color?
No sock look with loafers looks amazing . I recently wore this look with an olive green linen/silk suit, loafers with no show socks quite successfully based on the compliments i received
You can't go wrong with an olive linen suit in summer :)
Great choice 👌
Nice video, since I’m still in high school it’s challenging for me to dress like I want to but I try my best. I really dislike the sock less look it just doesn’t look right in my opinion especially with skinny shirt trousers. Big fan keep it up! And when did you got into style?
That's fantastic :) You already have an impressive wardrobe at such a young age.
I was definitely not dressing well during my high school years 😅 I might make a video about that at some point.
I think I got more interested in the subject about 2-3 years ago when I discovered second hand shops in Germany :)
That’s cool thank you. But something that’s very hard to dress good in school is that I have to wear a specific t shirt of the school and there is days where I have p.e so I have to wear sport clothes.
I think there will always be times where we have to adapt the way we dress :) You can still dress your best outside of school.
And you're on a great path already
@@Lukas_Schanderl thank you so much.
I'm 55 years old and I never even think of "not wearing" a belt. I don't want to start trying now😮😊.
Seems like you did just fine for 55 years, Sean :) No need to change now hehe.
Braces. Trousers cut for no belt. Dinner suits. There’s plenty of times you really shouldn’t wear a belt. 55 is no age to think it’s too late to change. You should be worrying less
I tried going belt-less. My pants kept drooping so it looked and a felt uncomfortable. I'd also LOVE to go sockless, but my ankles are disfigured, so it's not a great idea. I tend to wear light beige socks instead.
Thank you for watching, Jay.
I had the same issue with my pants as well. I only started to really get to know my size about 2 years ago, but even then, we will have weight fluctuations.
That's why I prefer side adjusters, but it's more tricky to find them.
Someone mentioned that silk socks can also be very light and comfortable during summer (but a bit pricey I suppose).
With a suit, the paints should have either side adjuster or buttons for braces. No clip on suspenders. I always wear braces, even when I’m wearing dress pants and a blazer or sport coat.
Great tip :) Thank you, Walter.
I prefer side adjusters, as well.
Still need to give braces a try.
I’m wearing a light blue gingham shirt , white pants, and white and light blue Prada sneakers tomorrow night at the Slowdive concert. All of my belts are black. I think belt less is the best option . You confirmed that. Thank you !
Hope you had a great time at the concert, Michael 🙏
For me the sockless look is a 2010s aesthetic and I for one would wear silk socks with loafers as an example.
Thanks for watching, Daniel.
Interesting. I will have to try them out
If you're wearing long pants, then wear sox. Wearing no sox with shorts, yes. I also don't like the ripped pants look either
Thanks for watching.
Even on really hot summer days and with loafers?
Love to see a ‘what bag’ episode
Thank you, Neil.
Do you mean a video where I show various different bags that mens hould have or what's in my bag ?
@@Lukas_Schanderltypes of bags. I went out the other day and I had keys, phone, wallet and second pair of glasses. Without a jacket it’s a pain, so didn’t know if there was a smart bag for Middle Aged men!
Great idea :) Thank you, Neil.
I'll put it on my video list :)
I think the best bag would be a tote bag, even though they tend to be a bit larger.
Great idea :) Thank you, Neil.
I'll put it on my video list.
The problem isn't being a don wearing shorts,
the problem is having a Tony Sparano body and wearing shorts.
😂😂😂 Great point
With a suit you should have side adjusters or wear braces. A belt breaks the line of a suit. I prefer braces, even if I’m wearing odd trousers and a jacket.
No shorts in the city. However, if you are at a tropical resorts, by the beach, on a boat or at a pool party shorts are alright.
Thanks for your comment, Walter.
I prefer side adjusters as well.
I'll have to give braces a try.
I don’t agree or follow any of the rules. I wouldn’t wear leather shoes with socks but canvas shoes I don’t in the summer.
Thanks for watching, Maxime.
Good point. I'm not sure if I would wear socks in e.g. espadrilles as well
1) My sox match my pants almost every time Sometimes I will match my sox to my shirt. With my pink pants, I only wear brown shoes and brown sox.
2) I don't wear belts, I wear red suspenders.
3) If I wear a black jacket,, black shirt and tie, black pants, black sox and shoes, with my chocolate brown face and hands - that's the only time black and brown go together.and look good.
4) If I go out in public, I wear sox.
5) I don't wear shorts in public.
Thank you for watching and sharing your views :)
I have to give suspenders a try, as well.
Not a rule, but I tend to feel that pairing shoes with socks brings a casual look and pairing pants with socks brings a formal look.
Regarding brown with black, I have a dark brown dickies 874 that is very sick with my black horsebit loafers!
I almost only wear black socks. In summer I have white ankle socks.
Great point :)
I like wearing a belt, don't like empty belt loops, in such situations, I would just match my belt to my pants and not my shoes.
I typically avoid them as well. Good idea to match the belt to the trousers.
Has thus guy never heard of light color belts ?????????
7:15 very feminine. BTW, same for white sneakers...
I agree, Alex.
The combination of no socks, tight and short trousers and formal shoes is not the best look
Wie schon gesagt, Dein Englisch ist einfach ausgezeichnet. Kannst Du eigentlich auch so gut Franzoesisch sprechen ? Mike
Danke dir, Mike.
Ich kann Franzoesisch nur noch Lesen und ein wenig verstehen beim Zuhören.
Du?
Gerglish
Please, gentlemen, no naked ankles with trousers!
Even if it's +30°C?
@@Lukas_Schanderl The thinnest lisle cotton socks will always look better but at some point you might have to sacrifice style to keep cooler.
No socks with boat shoes. Only boat shoes.
Even when you wear them for the entire day?
There are some small hidden socks, works pretty well
Here in Brazil we use alot
1. Never heard that. 2. True. No belt makes you a bum. 3. Wrong. 4.No socks earns you a place in Hell! Simply disgusting! 5. No shorts once you turn 8!
If your trousers fit why would you need a belt?
