I got it but Reversing it .
I think, may he take 8 flower because it is even and its factor also even & get answer in reverse solution 😊 as he took 7 flowers.

Not flowers, those were flowesh in the nesht tempal.
Ratio of flowers picked to those given is 7/8.Linear equation in two variables.Sure that a middle schooler with strong fundamentals would solve it.
8x=7y where x is number of flowers taken at first and y is number of flowers offered. Put x as integral multiple of 7 and get y. It has infinite solutions.
I just missed last step ,I got x/y=7/8 and then I got confused what value of x should I pick to satisfy the above equation

You can count it that the first 1×2 then 2×2 then 2×4 =14 then minus half and you get seven

My grandfather asked me this question when I was in class 3 or so. I solved it with trial and error.
Since then I'm asking this to everyone.
I was asked by my brother. When I was 20. And I was busy finding equation for this. Finally opted for trial and error took me 10 minutes. He couldn't believe that I solved it and said someone told me the answer.
