Another method : use multiple of 75*75 (it is easy to calc 75*75 just multiply the tens value to next value 7*8 and place 25 after 56) which is 5625 and 8*8 = 64 so the square must be between 75 and 80; now use last digit to determine the final value, in this case it is 79.

How do you get the 1 or 9 in the first square root problem and how do you get 4 or 6 in the second square root problem?
1. 1^2 and 9^2 both end in 1 (1 and 81)
2. 4^2 and 6^2 both end in 6 (16 and 36)
