A common argument I heard as a child.
I doubted it then, as I doubt it now.
Odds are, if three decades passed and the market didn't need it, "they" would keep it to themselves and "they" have probably been doing that for millennia.
Who they are. Where they come from. None of that matters to me.
It's wrong to keep secrets on purpose.

Dr. Timothy Cole Gallaudet Phd is an American oceanographer and retired Rear Admiral in the United States Navy. Who has stated the navy detects objects travelling as fast or faster than the speed of sound in water(1500 m/sec or 3355mph). Sonars limited to that speed.
These craft are literally breaking the sound barrier under water. They enter the water showing little to no signs of resistance. These are NHI craft that may have bases under the water or may live there.

In the 1960s Petit worked out the math and tested plasma supersonic wind tunnels for an MHD engine that can prevent sonic booms by the expansion and compression of plasma around a disc. His designs are relatively simple corona discharge electrodes and a 3-phase coil to create the rotating magnetic field, which accelerates and decelerates the plasma.

I’d focus more on the top of the food chain brings/entities that visit here and their intent rather than exploiting their tech. They fundamentally hold power over us by their very nature and if you know anything about UFO lore, there’s a plethora of species/types with a variety of tech levels. Some craft seem to be as advanced as life itself. No way we’ll reverse engineer that any time soon.

I saw this in a Popular Science article around 1965 It was a lozenge shaped "submersible" about 6 feet long with a cylindrical tube along each side. The water around the craft was "electrically charged" and the tubes along the sides were electromagnets which "repelled" the water around it and directed it behind it. There were pics of a swimmer next to it, and a diagram of water flow. Since we haven't heard of it since, perhaps the technology went "Classified". Like the Nuclear "rockets", also in the news, being built and "developed" around the same time, and dropped "out of sight" during the MOON SHOT hoopla and not heard of again.----- Plent of time since then to have developed quite a degree by now--- But in secret.
Looks a lot like the craft used in the "Secret Space Program" exposed by The British Hacker some years ago. Does not explain the inertia problems or right angle turns though.

Earth's sea water is the perfect ionized fuel source for electromagnetic, gravitational, and ion propulsion.
Second, due to the extreme pressure at lower depths, UFO would have to bother about being discovered by humans. At those depths, even the most advanced pressure military or civilian vessels could never remain in this depth very long before the pressures would begin to crush it.
But there is one concern I do have regarding these hyper-speed, zero-enertia mobility vessels: How do the passengers, unless these super maneuverable vehicles are unmanned drones, overcome the g-forces of stand still to escape velocity acceleration without being crushed or shredded?
My only conclusion (thanks to Star Trek): Inertia Dampeners (protective force field generators). Some way to negate Newtons 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Laws of Motion.

They could therefore, from our POV move easily through air and water and even solid matter. This may be why pictures of them are always blurry - we are seeing the effects of space/time distortion around them.

I think that most of the UFOs especially all of the super maneuverable ones are just probes run with AI. If they're visiting our planet/solar system to gain scientific information and knowledge on our own technological development then they would rather send probes. It makes it a lot simpler as you don't have to worry about anything other than energy, so you can have these same probes running around for centuries if not even for thousands of years. Most likely the whole galaxy is filled by these kind of probes that just gather information on everything that is happening and share it to different databases around the galaxy. Thing is that it takes just few thousand years for civilization to go from stones and sticks to flying around space, so you don't want to miss anything like that happening in your neighborhood. They see everything.
There are probably some crewed visitors as well, but they are most likely rare. Who knows if there even are interstellar laws that prohibit landing on planets with life. You risk spreading dangerous germs that the planets' ecosystems can't fight agaisn't, neither you want to risk natural development of civilizations as you never know how their societies are going to react to extraterrestrial visitors. Everytime humans have got in contact with an another civilization it has led to nothing but dead and chaos. For that reason extraterrestrials probably don't want to risk any kind of a contact until it's absolutely necessary once an another species has developed far enough to pose and existential threat to them.

Have seen them flying by my head, it was evening time and I have seen the ionization effect as a sort of fireball. However they immediately changed something as the saucers became almost transparent, showing only a spiral under the chassis. They probably do use very capacitive fuel to achieve the ionization and then the electromagnetic field. For us it would be impossible to achieve the electromagnetic field at a decent consumption ratio. Bob Lazer has mentioned some kind of exotic element that we can not create so easily.

Why does that need a wormhole? I can imagine a dozen different scenarios for why and how aliens might hang out here. At the end, its all just guesses. There's no way we could know about even near light speed travel. We haven't even got the technology to bring us to the Moon. We'd need 200k years to travel 1 lightyear. It's not even travel; we only drift! Look at our rockets. It's ridiculous.

It employs a magnetohydrodynamic electrolytic cell that extracts and separates oxygen and hydrogen gas without moving parts in microgravity. This eliminates the need for a forced water recirculation loop and associated equipment like pumps or centrifuges. Preliminary estimations suggest that this approach could lead to up to 50% mass budget reductions compared to existing oxygen generation methods for a 99% reliability level.

He's a French plasma physicist that used some of the first fluid dynamics simulation computers to get the math right on an MHD drive that can prevent sonic booms. His designs are simple 3-phase coils housed inside wings, spheres, cylinders and discs.

The power requirements to do some of those instant accelerations at 90 degrees into space take gigawatts of energy. Dr. Kevin Knuth did a little research paper were he estimated the flight characteristic of various ufo encounters. When they modeled the tictac encounter, the tic tac would take on the order of 11 gigawatts of power for each acceleration and it was doing it multiple times a second. The largest nuclear power plant we have in America only produces about 3.3gw of power and that supplies most of the state of Arizona. There is no way the us military has access to that kind of power.

Fascinating video! Prototype MHD propulsion units have been tested in the propulsion of surface ships, Sea water is ionic but it's also HIGHLY corrosive to the electrode panels in the propulsion stream. Initial prototypes lasted ~ only one year. Perhaps newly formulated coatings (nonmetallic) dielectric materials shielding covering the electrode surfaces can be used. Some membranes are "ion selective" with the ionic species they permit to pass. IT should be noted that intense power requirements would produce heat-sinking problems! (Note: some UFO's reportedly dropped molten metal from there upsides while displaying precession issues suggesting a propulsion problem and that samples of more than one instance were analyzed as indeed being metallic.
