My mom made fried green tomatoes all summer long. She just used cornmeal. No buttermilk in hers. I do mine by soaking in buttermilk, dip in flour, and go back to buttermilk and then dip in cornmeal. So yummy.
Sounds so delicious 😋
That’s all my family did was wet the sliced tomatoes with water and then cornmeal salt and pepper.
Give me a big plate, love fried green tomatoes.😋
We used to have fried chicken, fried okra and fried tomatoes with fried cornbread and it worked.
Green tomatoes fried in Italian bread crumbs are also great. Also a fried green tomato, bacon, and lettuce sandwich with mayo. Yum
This sandwich really sounds good.
Hey,grew up having fried green tomato's.I just fixed my daughters favorite meal this past week. I fix mine with buttermilk, and I combine flour and cornmeal, we had fresh corn, green beans, macaroni salad and cornbread.❤
My mom & dad made great fried green 🍏 using
yellow corn meal mixed with a touch of flour (they were southerners) cooked in canned Crisco. I'm a northerner in Michigan & make mine as they did. We eat our's with fried chicken, greens, & cornbread 😊
I make mine like they did & my family enjoys them as much as I do 💚
Bacon grease and it would been much better,, but ain't no bad fried green tomatoes
Me, too !! That's, the way my granny made them. If, it was good enough for granny is is good enough for me !!! MY, granny passed and a big piece of my heart went with her !!
I am also from Georgia and my mother use to make them this way I love mine with country style ribs and biscuits
My mom and dad always used cornmeal on green tomatoes and fried okra. I love both. We always had pinto beans, fried potatoes, cornbread with green beans and fried corn. Tennessee
Yep that’s what my family did
Indiana here. I bought your cookbook stand, but I put my Bible on it with the stand on my lap. Works great! ❤
When I was a waitress at Ryan's family steakhouse we would pass out food items that the cooks made that the business was trying to test and see how well people liked it. I remember passing out fried green tomatoes and they of course were a huge hit and we ended up adding them to our buffet bar menu on Sundays
Oh my goodness how I miss Ryan's! That was some good eating!
I really miss Ryan's. Ours shut down years ago and they had such good food.
We love our fried green tomatoes with any veggies, but especially with field peas and collard greens.
Oh, man, my mouth is watering! My granny taught my mama and mama taught me how to make fried green tomatoes. We usually had them with a pot of pinto beans, fried potatoes, salt pork, and biscuits. We make them by cutting them real thin and dipping them in flour seasoned with salt and lots of black pepper, like Tammy did but without the butter milk. Nowadays it's only me who will eat them so I just fry one when I can get ahold of one and eat it with some beans and hot pepper kraut. They're so good!!
Fried green tomatoes is good with just about anything. Especially fresh vegetables. About 35 years ago I had a huge tomato patch in my garden. A neighbor came by and asked if I ever Fried the green ones. At that time I had never heard of them. I tried them and was a huge fan at first bite.
My mother made fried green tomatoes, country ham, fried eggs, toast, and most important Louisiana hot sauce.
Much love from Nashville Tn.❤
Sounds great!
Mom used a mixture of flour and corn meal mix. Which she also used on okra and squash
Sounds great!

This was great, fried green tomorrow was a staple for supper ! This brought back beautiful memories
Glad you enjoyed it
I do fried red tomatoes. I like the touch of sweetness that the red ones give!
Grew up eating fried green tomatoes and fried pumpkin blossoms. My grandma and mom soaked the green tomatoes in salt water. Mom always used a cracker breading recipe she came up with, laid them out to dry a bit on wax paper then stacked them up with the wax paper in between and frozen them. They tasted fresh out of the garden in the winter
Green tomatoes with a touch of pink make the best fried green tomatoes. So much flavor
Dayton Ohio here ! Thank you! I know how to make fried green tomatoes, but, didn't know about the buttermilk, I just bought buttermilk today for cornbread and I'm sure going to try it for fried green tomatoes.
I live in Eastern NC and a local restaurant serves fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. They top them with their homemade pimento cheese and crumbles of real bacon they fry up. They are amazing. I always thought I hated them until I tried these when out with my coworkers celebrating a birthday and didn't want to be rude when I was offered one.
Being from Minnesota I didn't have fried green tomatoes until I visited Charleston, South Carolina. I've had them at Magnolias in Charleston and Blueberry Grill in North Myrtle Beach and they are delicious. I can't wait to try your recipe. Thank you!
I live in florida. my mom made fried green tomatoes with flour and so do I, love them.
The air fryer makes the best fried green tomatoes. I prep them and coat. Then I freeze them between wax paper and just throw them in air fryer, spray with oil and cook. Awesome!
We've always had fried green tomatoes. Me, Mom, Grandma, everybody. Later at the end of tomato season we all made chow-chow from the tomatoes still on the vine when the frost got 'em. (Waste not, want not was branded on our backside in my family.) I'd like yellow squash and pickled onions and cucumbers, and maybe Swiss steak.
I love fried green tomatoes. I use a cornmeal/flour mixture for mine ❤️. Texan here🤠
Sounds great!
Fried green tomatoes would be good with my mouth! 😂
I could eat "fried green tomatoes" like eating popcorn, as a snack, or as a side dish, Tn. girl here, born and raised I love all "southern" dishes ❤️
I have never seen green tomatoes at the store or at the farmers market. Brenda Gantt says to cut the tomatoes into bite size pieces then fry them. She said you can get more in the pan that way. We are in Iowa.
I just watched that video this morning! Love her!
@@triciadowns8340 me too, she is so sweet.
Yes my mother made them and we loved it she use self rising flow or some all purpose when she didn't have any thing else. And corn meal too
I would have Pork Roast or Pork Chops with Corn on the cobbler and Fried Green Tomatoes here in Dallas Yum!
Brown beans, cornbread, fried taters....that's all I need with these 😋💜
I always just use plain flour. Just like my mom, grandma and great grandma did. Eat them on bread with a little salt. Yummmy! Just had some last week while camping.😊
Cornmeal and flour. Marinated and soaked in buttermilk. Could never do just cornmeal. So many restaurants are messing it up. Glad I had the original to go off of not the new "cornmeal or breadcrumbs". And some hot sauce. Real southern thangs yum yum
I. Would have fried green tomatoes, boiled summer crock near squash, and fresh slice cucumbers with homemade biscuits 😋. From north central Texas, ya'll.
Yes I have cooked green tomatoes. I love them. I like flour better and I do use White Lily. I live in Knoxville, Georgia now. Claudette
Love seeing you all together ❤️. Give him a bite😂
Hey, Tammy and Chris 💗💚. Love this video! I always use a mixture of White Lily self-rising flour and corn meal cause I just love the flavor of the corn meal ❤. Fried okra is my very favorite! I don’t use buttermilk cause I don’t buy it 😂. Gotta have my pintos, fried potatoes, sliced cucumbers, fresh banana peppers, green onions, ripe tomatoes and corn bread ❤. East Tennessee ❤
I agree, I prefer green tomatoes that have a little pink on it. The totally green ones are too tart/sour. Also add some Cajun seasoning to the tomato before breading them.
Here in Deep South Mississippi restaurants serve them with homemade comeback sauce
Never had fried green tomatoes.
When you’ve been cooking for x amount of years you basically know how much is 1/2 cup. You can eyeball it for some things.
That looks delicious.
My grandma and mama made them with buttermilk and would most of the time make them in cornmeal. I love to make them and have some greens , a mess of fried fish, and grits. ❤❤❤ Originally from Apalachicola Florida on the river.
I make my fried green tomatoes with two tablespoons of oil and a 1/2 stick of butter per pan load. I put the tomatoes on white bread. Sunbeam was the bread i grew up on but i cant find it anymore..
Mmmm mmm.
My mother would make fried green tomatoes a lot she would cut them in smaller pieces and fry them in with okra she loved that along with cream style white corn and biscuits she used flour for the green tomatoes but she always used corn meal for okra and squash. I have never made any myself but I will try making some
Love fried green tomatoes! That made me want to make some. I’d have fried green tomatoes, fried okra, fried squash and fried potatoes, pork chops and cornbread with a slice of vidallia onion. 😋
My mama made fried okra and cubed up green tomatoes and fried them together. She used a mixture of cornmeal and flour. I made this in memory of her a few weeks back. So good. Not quite like hers but still good.
Alabama
My family they just used egg wash and flour with salt and pepper. Mom always fried everything with crisco shortening. I like it the best. But this is interesting. I may try it.
One of my summer favorites. My mom made them when I was growing up. She would let me have the first one that was ready to eat.
Here in central Alabama, we love fried green tomatoes anytime!

Fried tomatoes, Southern Green Beans, Carrots, with BBQ’d Chicken (on the charcoal grill), and some Steamed Shrimp.
Salt your tomato slices and let them sit a few minutes to release some of the moisture before breading and they'll fry up crisper.
I actually like fried green tomatoes for breakfast with over easy eggs!!! I'm originally from Maryland but live in South Carolina. ❤
Yes my Momma made hers like this and so do I. We. always used self rising flour…
Growing up in the Midwest (Nebraska) we didn't hear about fried green tomatoes. When I moved to E. Kentucky I certainly heard about them and ate them alot. I loved them! I've only eaten them with corn meal.
My mother used flower also with oil/butter and when she took them out she sprinkle a little sugar on one side, so delivious
I just roll mine in flour, fry and sprinkle sugar on them....like my momma did
My mamma always fried in a cast iron skillet, sure miss the flavor.
🍽 i would love to have some of that. 😛
I’m from Iowa and I love fried green tomatoes. I would eat baked beans with mine
In Germany I've had to grow the tomatoes in our house with artificial lighting because of the climate differences.
You have shown me how easy these are to prepare. I was preparing the tomatoes with egg wash then dip into a flour mixture seasoned with sal and Herbs de Provence but every time the Herbs would burn and ruin my oil.
Thank you .
My Grammy always fried ripe tomatoes (with flour), so we do too! 😋😋😋
Oh, I have to try these. I really enjoy your videos. You explain things so well and your sayings sometimes crack me up. "Simple dimlpe" You never get flustered if things aren't exactly how they should be, you just work with it. You make cooking fun!

I like Aldi's buttermilk , it is always thick ! 😊
It's so good!
My mom and I both made fried green tomatoes. We like using the Whistle Stop batter mix. I grew up in N Florida and now live in AL.
My favorite vegetable/fruit fried with dill dressing on the side
My Mom also used a beat up egg and dipped the green tomatoes into it before dipping into the flour and I always put Catsup on mine 😊❤
Hi! My mother used to make these for my Dad. I always thought they were a little acidic (bit my toung?). My Mom and my Auntie used to can green tomatoe mince meat, in the fall. I absolutely love mince meat pie. Also, to break the seal on your jars, flip the jar upside down, firmly tap it on the counter top, flip it over and firmly tap the jar bottom, flip it back, wait a couple seconds and the lid should turn. Works for me every time. Love you ❤☕️👍
I’d like a New York strip loin on a large slice of garlic bread with fried green tomatoes as my side. They look so delicious Tammy!

Hi Tammy & Chris! Fried green tomatoes ...yum!! Can make a meal of them! My crew likes them with mac & cheese, Granny's Green Beans and fried chicken or bar-b-que. We had fried green tomatoes last night but used them as a topper on the chicken used for pulled chicken sandwiches built on toasted hogie rolls with a generous drizzle of remoulade over the tomatoes & chicken. The remoulade was made with a bit of cajun/creole mustard for a little extra flavor. Thanks for another video, y'all!
Sounds great!
My momma and grandma made them. Today I am making fried green tomatoes.
Upstate New York saying hi! Will try this.
