- It's new bike day!! Time to put together this @marin_bikes Rift Zone 2 and take it for a first ride. But before we ride it on the trail, I'm going to show you five drills that I practice at the trailhead to get a better feel for the bike.
If you want detailed breakdowns of any of the skills and drills, I recommend watching this video: • OUT-Ride Your Friends!...
If you missed the 30-Day Skills Challenge, here's a link to that video, too: • 30 Ways to Become A Be...
Here's "The War Of Art" book that I mentioned: amzn.to/3vxADyb

Warming up is important, the older you get, the more important it is to do. Before I get on the bike I use power bands to get my arm muscles woken up as they are key to so many moves. I had tennis elbow years ago and this was a vital part of recovery. I haven’t had any issues since so it clearly pays off. Doing a sequence similar to Aaron’s suggestion gets everything else working and your head in the right place. See it as fun, not a pre-ride chore.
Good call - I have some friends who use the power bands before they race, too. Sounds like it really helps get warmed up!
Trials on trails! Lets go!!!
Looks like you've got some seriously nice trails there mate, super keen to see more of these clips btw, glad you're getting the weather to get outside!
Thanks!! This trail system is a fun one for sure, been wanting to film there for a while. Pumped to get a proper MTB edit out into the world...here we go!
I'm envious of the terrain and mild temperatures, but probably would not enjoy the rain and mud.
Something I want to learn.
How to deal with steep tight corners with a step down of around 15 " off a root.
The step down is at the apex of the corner.
Steep tight corners - perfect! I did a switchback video a while ago, but I think I could do a better one this year with a bit more depth. Thanks for this!
Happy New Year Aaron... Im still on the three P's Practice, practice, prac...👍
Thanks!! Happy new year!
I really like videos like this. Makes me listen all the time
Thank you!
My oldest son has a Rift Zone 2, it’s a great versatile bike for his riding.
Such a fun bike to ride - I was really impressed with how easy it was to adapt to this geometry.
Ah Sandy Ridge! I love it there. Thanks for the book recommendation, sounds like a winner and I am going to check it out.
Such a great spot to ride! Hopefully we'll cross paths (trails) there some time!
More trail footage, great idea!
That’s impressive rear wheel lifting on such a slack short stemmed long bike!
Thanks!
Great video, Aaron. Nice bike. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Thanks Martin! Excited for this bike, we're off to a solid start!
Nice bike
Thanks! Pumped on this bike so far, it's changed my impression of 29ers in a big way.
@@SuperRiderTVthe 29er is the best type of MTB when I got mine I couldn’t believe how good it was
Nice bike, cool warm up. 😎👍
Thanks! Stoked on this one!
Super Rider - Super Inspiring!
Thank you!
great video dude!!! very good tips
Thank you!! 🙏
Come for the mountain bike tips, stay for the... *checks notes*... book reviews?
Yay or nay? Trying to share a little bit more than just POV footage, wanted to test out something new.
The problem with my 29er is not so much the length of the bike but mostly how far back you need to go to lift the front wheel. The rear axle is so far back I need to throw myself backwards very hard to lift the wheel for a manual or bunny hop, and hardly manage to reach the height I'm aiming for. So I'm struggling a lot with manuals and bunny hops on the 29er compared to the 26er (I'm still a beginner on the 26er, but at least I manage to lift the wheel relatively easily in comparison).
Makes total sense - that adjustment with the wheel size (and accompanying geometry) makes an impact for sure. That's definitely why I was trying those parking lot drills before I rode, to get a feel for how far I needed to move. You might try to use your phone to film yourself doing a front wheel lift - just to see where you are on the bike when you're lifting it up. I always find that to be really insightful, and you should be able to get a better sense of how much farther you can move.
I would have guessed there was snow up at Sandy by New Year's Day, but not even a hint of it at the viewpoint on Communication Breakdown?!
We lucked out for sure. There was some the week prior when I rode there (and I bet there is a ton there now)!
I still haven't got 29" wheels and I don't plan to. 🙂
I was the same with 26" then 27.5" and there was no way I was ever getting 29".
My last bike was a 27.5" FS.
My new bike is 29"x 2.6" hard tail.
I also still ride my 26" x 2.4 hard tail bike.
The 29" is not what you expect, I really like it.
I no longer ride either of the 26" Yeti FS bikes I still have.

Great video and cool to see you on a full sus doing trials! Thanks for the tip of the book, I will definitely check it out.
Can I ask you what kind of camera and mic's do you use?
Thanks Aaron and keep up the great work!
PS: been ridin today and at the end of the ride I stopped on a small hill to do some level pedal turns with pumping and some endo 180's... and THEN I felt that my day was ending in a good and improving way.
Ciao from Italy! 🇮🇹
Thanks! Having some fun with this full sus bike! I hope you like the book, I find it to be a good motivational read to start the year strong. I'm mostly using a GoPro on this video, although some shots are on a Panasonic GH2 with a DJI wireless mic.
@SuperRiderTV thanks and happy rides!
cool vid!
Thank you!
Don’t know where you are but, would be lovely if you held skills clinic or coaching 🎉
Thanks! I'm based in Portland, OR - haven't done any clinics yet, but maybe someday..
I can’t do the back wheel unweight on my XC hard tail
Here's a detailed video I made about lifting up your back wheel: czcams.com/video/Yk50cFtCBS0/video.htmlsi=6UYPIbJpww-vOmHb
I struggle to get my bike unweighted at the front end, when I look at the bikes you use they look small for you and is this the reason it is easy for you?,
This bike is a large size frame, so I think it’s the correct size? My best suggestion would be to film yourself on your phone and see if your body is moving as far back as you think it is during the unweight.
@@SuperRiderTV Thanks for the reply, I’m 6ft 1 inch on a trek roscoe 9 xl frame
