WHENEVER I THINK ABOUT ABANDONED HOTELS OR TRAINS, I CAN’T HELP BUT THINK ABOUT THE MOVIE, THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. NOT ONLY WAS IT AN AMAZING MOVIE, IN MY OPINION, BUT IT BROUGHT ABOUT THE IDEA THAT THERE ARE HOTELS OUT THERE THAT WERE ONCE PART OF THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE, BUT ARE NOW EITHER ABANDONED OR NEARLY VACANT ALL OF THE TIME. THAT IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE STORY OF THE IZAAK WALTON INN WHICH IS LOCATED IN ESSEX, MONTANA. IT’S CLOSE TO GLACIER NATIONAL PARK,WHICH WAS A BOOMING TOWN IN 1939. THERE WERE TWO MAIN ENTRANCES TO THE PARK VIA THE GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY. BECAUSE THEY KNEW THAT TOURISTS WOULD SOON BE VISITING, ALONG WITH AN INFLUX IN RAIL WORKERS, THE IZAAK WALTON INN OPENED ITS DOORS. THE HOTEL OFFERED MODERN DETAILS IN EACH OF THEIR 29 ROOMS. IT ALSO HAD 10 BATHROOMS, A LOBBY, A DINING ROOM, AND A KITCHEN WITH A 2-TON STOVE! AS THEY WERE ABOUT TO BUILD A THIRD ENTRANCE INTO GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, THE UNITED STATES WENT TO FIGHT WORLD WAR II AND THEN THERE WAS THE BOMBING OF PEARL HARBOR IN 1941. THEY DECIDED TO PUT THE NEW PARK ENTRANCE ON HOLD, AND NOTHING WAS EVER MADE OF IT. THIS LEFT THE INN VACANT, BUT THEY CONTINUED TO OPERATE ON A MUCH SMALLER SCALE. LUCKILY FOR THEM, THIS MADE THE INN VERY SUCCESSFUL. KNOWN FOR ITS WARM STAFF AND COZY ROOMS, THE INN ATTRACTED OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS, ALONG WITH SKIERS. THEY ENJOYED THE PEACEFULNESS OF THE HOTEL, AND BECAUSE OF THIS THE IZAAK WALTON INN BECAME ONE OF MONTANA’S BEST RECREATIONAL SECRETS. THE HOTEL IS STILL THRIVING, BUT THEY ADDED A FEW UNUSUAL OFFERINGS TO THEIR RESERVATION MENU.

The Tamaracouta Scout Reserve boy-scout camp in Canada has 6 vintage cabooses that were converted into camp cabins. It's called the "Snowball Express" and the cabooses, rails and installation were donated by the Canadian National Railway (CN) back in the 70's.
Thank you bringing that up. I stayed in one of those cabooses when I was a cub Scout in the mid 70's.
Get rid of the annoying background music!
The train cars innards are nicer than my apartment...Bigger too!
Back in the late 1970's, the Milwaukee Rail Road was selling all their cabooses (in Chicagoland) for $500 each. My. Dad, a MRR engineer, wanted to buy one but transporting it the seven miles from the rail road yard to our one acre property seemed too big of a pain for him. Looking back, I wish he would have gone ahead with it. My brothers and I still own the same property even today.
If I were king, I'd make a law that every freight train has to have a caboose; no more of this hanging some lantern contraption on the last freight car!
What great fun to stay in an old train car, especially one that looks like any of those shown.

anyone else getting fucking sick and tired of commercials on CZcams???????
There is a bunch of rail cars that have been converted into motels in Carlsle Pennsyvania (nickednamed Train town, USA).
I spent my teenaged years close to Carlisle...fond memories.
excellent, very good use for old locomotives,......instead of letting it to rust away,,...........
Wow what a shot show of a video thanks for sharing
Love these things. I wouldn't have the patience (or the skills let face it!) to convert one myself so all credit to those who took on the task!
This is really creative.
BEAUTIFUL!!
Such an interesting and informative film, spoilt to death by the irrelevant irritating jingle played incessantly !!
Great video! I had no idea this existed!
These are awesome! 👍
Now that's totally radical what a fantastic idea to do.
The whole thing is lovely. Supremely lovely!!!👌👍💐
There are one or two maybe three persons here who have engines or a caboose in the front yard very unique. I love this concept, thank you good info.
There's a small Caboose Hotel in Dunsmiure , CA...they have about 5....
There used to be a diner from a converted Caboose in New Jersey
At 2:39 that is a emd p 42 ph i think. Its a locomotive knot a car😁
Although it may be a plug for hotel; a Shameless plug. I still wouldn't mind this as a home for myself.
I could absolutely live in this
I saw those when I went through on the Empire Builder once, but I didn't realize they were hotel rooms! They look nice! I'll have to plan a trip specifically to there sometime!
I came across an abandoned Great Northern Caboose in the woods yesterday. Located outside of St. Paul. Seen at 1:45
That is luxury inside there
That was a LOCOMOTIVE... not a "train car".
Col place we had lunch at the inn a few years ago when out at Glacier!
The green sleeper cars with the white statues 'outside' are not in Montana, but are part of the Holiday Inn at the train station in downtown Indianapolis, IN.
Nice Caboose!
in Newport,ky we had one that was a liquor store, called the cabooze. there's a pic of it if you Google it.
Similar to the Red Caboose in PA, www.redcaboosemotel.com/ they have a number of converted cabooses and a dining car converted into a restaurant.
Very cool trains but the photography made me nauseous. Faster is not better.
I love this idea! Im going to send this to hubby and maybe we can go there for our 25th which is coming up soon!
guess Ill have to just kidnap him! Hmmmm in fact that sounds even better! hahaha
N'otha chicka Happy Anniversary to you and your husband.
N'otha chicka take me with you please
Love it!
Drop the droning background noise. can't listen to it!
There is a much nicer way of saying you don’t like it.
That would be cool to own one
look at thous jets on that train. love it
no music when talking
The hotel at 1:04 is not in Montana, that is the Crowne Plaza hotel in Indianapolis.
Love it.
Well, they certainly haven't done there research for this. Isakk Walton hotel was a Great Northern railway crew dormitory and chow hall. My research into the third entrance at Essex, Mt to Glacier National Park wasn't even proposed--simple rumor. True it is a train spotters paradise, it can be very noisy 3-4 locomotives idling while the helper crew wait for trains to push over Maria's Pass. Busy times can have 40 trains a day at all hours. An Amtrak train each day one east and one west. It has been fixed up since I first stopped there in 1967, it was pretty run down and little used due to the demise of the steam train and when I stopped there in summer of 2017 it was pretty nice in appearance with added train cabooses and a pedestrian over pass across the switch yard.I used to stop there for a treat in the 90's for mud pie or rum cake at the restaurant.
That background noise (music?!) is SO annoying I had to mute this to watch it, which means I missed all the commentary, but still... ugh!!
I found it hard to listen to the dialogue because the background music is too loud .
Thanks
A place have to check out
There is a caboose exactly like that in my town in Minnesota but it's just a tourist attraction
At least that pullman car was nice.
How lush can the landscape be, when it's under a thick coating of snow and ice?
nothing like making you think that your going to see a caboose that was made into a house, but instead you get an advertisement for a Hotel...Can we say CLICK BAIT???
Not only click bait with an advertisement; but an example of how NOT to use different transitions at every opportunity.
No not really
James Brown
I watched it without sound but it seems to show cabooses turned into living quarters does it not? Even if they are rented out I love the style and would rent one if I was holidaying wherever they are.
pov: you looked up how to grow a caboose at home and this is what came up
The train(interior) at 0:30 looks like Maharaja's Express of Indian Railways
Love it but the music is annoying
I'm hard of hearing and if it were not for captions, I would never understand the speaker because of the music.
It's a hotel room, not a home. Very disappointed with the misleading title.
Nice!
The big place looks like the hotel from the shining. As far as the railroad cars I could see Sheldon cooper from the big bang theory staying there.
My cousin turned a caboose into a breakfast cafe in Kansas
Drooling ...... :)
Nothing kills a video quicker than having one of those 'made for TV' type narrators speak in those scripted, uninformative, say nothing type dialogs, coupled with some hideous noise, or silly background music dubbed over it.
That was disappointing. Was excited to see someone living in it. Just a “hotel.”
I think i wld stay or hve a 1 of these b 4 a tiny house 4 real... This is really, really nice...
What kind of caboose was that red great northern railway caboose? End cupola?
Didn't know with the first half whether the voiceover belonged to a different video or not. The "music" is incredibly annoying. I gave up in the end.
My dream is to buy a old caboose and then restore it and live in it
400 year old reclaimed floor? What did they reclaim it from... a native American hogan ?

, a guys who lived in Simi Valley in the knolls, and he had a train box car on a place where you had to wonder how they got it there. I helped him build a bed and some kitchen cabinets it was 6 or7 feet wide and 40 or 50 feet long it was set up like with a sliding door near the front on the side It started with the bed a tiny table couple of chairs than a kitchen area a little space after. that to get dressed than in the last 10 feet or so was walled off with a door and the whole room was tiled with shower heads like 3 of them the floor was tiled to with a drain right in the middle of that room .He also had a girl friend Anna. She was a looker. I know Marty got shot in the head doing something stupit. But I digress .The place was not bad It was owned by H.A. Bill a hack of a. nice guy wonder it anyone out there knew the same.
.
Caboose... home...
NEAT!
I am home! Caboose is home! I am a big blue house! I am home! I am a place! I even got a window on my face!
Not a tiny home. It's a hotel room. Not an honest title.
Ronald Mitch Thanks, I didn't know that. Have to check it out.
Europeans should not be on this land at all! Europeans should leave and go back to Europe. That is where you came from and that is where you should go back to. You and your tiny houses. Oh and take some of these black folk with you. Their useless over here.
The Duchess wtf?! Do you not get this whole country was made from immigrants. And ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE FROM EUROPEAN BACKGROUND ANCESTRY. there’s no American nationality lol Jesus..... do a 23 and me. I’m sure you have some African American in ya since many Europeans do from many people from Africa immigrating to Europe like Italy and Greece and Ireland etc. I’d love to see your results. You’d have to leave with them all. Why you trying to be a nasty troll.
Yes it is
My sister was talking to someone from Minneapolis. She told her we have a cousin who lives in a diner. I thought she meant our cousin converted a railroad car style diner into a home. It turned out she was saying Edina with her thick NY accent.
Lost my train of thought with that music. Would be great to have a gag floor board in that caboose that when stepped on would blow train air horns. Late night trips to the rest room would be an adventure.
Should have the jet pods on the roof however.
Chris Christie in 90 and be 4. Had 2 caboose on ocean view dr.off latigo canyon in Malibu. My neighbor was Olivia mordente who's husband was a t.v producer. And it was so damn cute.
wow so pretty
Okay!
I gave them a 5 star for activities only person who would call it boring must not be active . I would call it a must vacation for all
Neato . . . . . . 😁😀😊
So ... yeah ... as a Montanan, I would offer one quick but important correction. You state in the narrative at about 3:05 that after you are done fishing in Glacier National Park, "imagine preparing your daily catch here." And then imagine being served with a heavy fine. Fishing in Glacier National Park is catch-and-release only. Enjoy the scenery. Enjoy fishing even. But make sure you put them all back.
Occasional Amtrak train? How about two daily. One eastbound, one westbound.
Mar"eye"is Pass! Poor research.
And other issues as well!!
Where and how can i buy a caboose so i can do this im planning on buying a vacant property to put a caboose on to make it into a house
Search online. There are not too many left but some dealers might have them. I know the Georgetown Railroad is trying to sell a number of old gondolas but no cabooses on that shortline.
Great ideas actually ... Too many people are purchasing containers & diverting them into apts., cozy places to live! Why let all that iron go into waste, corrosion? I would luv having such a place to myself ...
A perfect home? Click bait for certain !
SLIDESHOW
Umm...Engineers locomotive
This "video" is nothing more than a collection of still pictures gleaned from the internet.
and someone thinks they are a videographer with the fade in a moving the camera. I found it annoying
Seriously ??? change the crap music... we're talking mountains and trains....
The x215 only sleeps four people not six
I didn't expect all this filler. Please focus on the caboose only, or redefine the description thanks. And technically its a motel room, not a home.
Take your caps lock off and also learn the proper pronunciation of Marias Pass.
Poor SDP40F @ 2:41 it got gutted in the next photo
That's not an SDP40F. It was an F45 sold to the GN by the ATSF. After running on the BN after the merger it was sold to the Utah Railway where it ran for a number of years.
The MN railfan 1003 there is only one surviving SDP40F it's in Nevada not Montana
Isn’t there a couple in Pueblo Colorado?
The MN railfan 1003 their status is unknown they may have been scrapped
True
And what I am saying is the TRUTH
We have a caboose in Ohio and it is a house
It must be nice i have no money
Chuggington
The Train did not abandon me. The Truth is the Father John Sanchez abandoned me when I was a baby. He left me in a hospital after I was bashed up and I was suffering from starvation. I had a bruised face and my body was black and blue. He is no father to me. I hate him. The Train is my Dad who saved me and adopted me from the age of two. My Dad is in heaven. Bless him. A wonderful Father he was. He adored me. Loved me and cared for me. Brought me up in a clean safe environment. Gave me the best. I will always be Bray. I am proud of my Name. He is my only One Dad. The Best
What does this mean or have to do with the video
It is pronounced...Mah...Rye...is Pass
Marias
Yeah, this isn't my cup of tea.
Nice video, irritating music.
Hi
1st half had shit to do with the caboose... if you advertise something talk about that something
Exactly what in the hell is that background noise? This whole thing is an ad. ....and bullshit!
