    My whole kit is pretty much Tamron now. I was waiting for this one up after seeing it at the CP+ Show in Yokohama this year. The Tamron guy was really excited about it then. I picked it up last week and it is a great lens. Tamron are really making great products now, and I find then way more reliable than SIgma.

    Just recently bought the lens, having watched this review some time ago. I didn't really need the lens as I already have the 45mm and 85mm F1.8 which are both so good. But the "must have it" syndrome kicked when I saw an ad for one on sale for just 500 euros. All the hesitation I had at first quickly dissipated as I started to take images with it. It truly delivers uniquely beautiful results.

    Incredibly helpful and comprehensive. I have both Tamron’s 15-30 f2.8 (not the G2) and the G2 70-200 f2.8 in no small part based on your historical reviews. Being a, ahem, Nikon shooter, I find both deliver superb results via my D850. My only hesitation on their 24-70 f2.8 is that I have another lens covering that range. However, I haven’t had a 35 mm prime since my teenage Olympus OM1 years and am now on the hunt. This is making a compelling case. Look forward to your final piece and thoughts. Thanks.

    Great review. What I have been waiting for. Confirms what I saw on a lens testing website where I compared its performance to a couple of other 35's including the Tamron 1.8. The clear distinction between this and the other lenses is the sharpness across the frame. Best I have seen. Lensrentals says this is best in class in resolution. I would like to see a Christmas light sort of image to see how it does with clear and bright bokeh circles: fringing, shape, onion rings.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 5 lety

      If Lens Rentals is accounting for total resolution across the frame, I think I would agree with that conclusion. Sharpness will not be a problem. It’s rendering tons of information at F1.4 even on my 42mp Sony a7rIII

Make it a gold SP. people are all about showing off and it sound s petty but we both know this is true people don’t want other people to think they are using the regular 35 1.8 if they get the sp 1.4 you know damn sure they want people to know it’s the 1.4 and not the 1.8. It really makes no sense whatsoever to not delegate it but that’s their decision not mine

    I just sold my Canon mark II to buy the FE Art f1.2 Sigma 35, that, at Lens Rentals, is also considered now the sharpest (but only mirrorles compatible), quasi equal to Tamron that, however when adapted, also like the Canon, requires a button to be customized for DOF preview -witch I refuse to do (just for a 35mm only).
    Canon 35mm L II lost its reason to be, especially at it's price. I think it is as easy and plain as that.
    I even suspect(only) the Tamron's bokeh might also be better then Sigma's f1.2 (but at this point I just want strait realtime DOF, and as a bonus the Sigma has apperture-ring, plus button - just like GM-type housing).
