    When a third party lens is this good, at this price point, it does an amazing thing: It raises the bar so so high for native lenses, both in terms price and quality. And that’s what Tamron has done here. I chose it over the superb 35mm 1.8S lens.

Tamron does represent a good value, but I would rather save up for the Canon. Just hope Canon releases a 35mm 1.2 soon on their RF mount.

      Mainak Bag did you shoot the Sigma 35 Art? It’s one of my favorite lenses, now on my Z6 but I also liked it when I had the D850. Was plenty sharp wide open. Won’t let that go ever maybe. So I don’t feel a need to change it. I guess the Tamron can’t be that much better. Sharper in the corners sure but I don’t care. I just want maximum character

      ChrispyArt From what I have seen (the frantic Internet research that one does before spending the hard earned money), the bokeh falloff looked nicer to me. And it has the weather sealing which is a must have for me. Also, since the Tamron is much newer product, the autofocus motor is improved. There were 3 key reasons for picking up the Tamron and not even the S lens..

    Great review Marcus - appreciate that you DO take in to account how much personal taste is involved in choosing the right tool for you. Like, why choose a lens that someone else says is the best, but that doesn't speak to YOU?
    One thing is that Canon L is also 5 years old (2015), whereas Tamron just came out last year, so that's a good gap in which a) Tamron has had time to update their optics, and b) I've gotten 4+ extra years of use from my Canon L and made images that I would never have been able to make on the Tamron, simply because it didn't exist. There's a big price difference but for me that difference has been more than made up the last 5 years :)

      Thank you so much Brian! Yes I love my 35lii, I can’t believe it’s still such a gem being 5 years old! Plus it focuses so well in video I don’t think I’m going anywhere. That soft flare though is the one thing I miss so much once I have it back to my buddy! I hope canon will address that with the rumored Rf 35L. Either way it’s a win for us!

  • @andrewgrushevsky
    @andrewgrushevsky Před rokem +5

    The video is completely untrue! I had both of these glasses at the same time and there were no differences in color, microcontrast and clarity. Even a blind person can see that you added a preset and it completely changed the color on the Tamron. Moreover, at least two times and different ones. Of course, the colors and tonality will not be the same. So please don't mislead people. It was necessary to provide a JPEG from the camera to adequately compare them.

I may be color-blind but for me canon, even 35mm f2 is is superior optics even if the dof is only 2. 4:34 : yes it's sharper but for what price? the face is destroyed. you easisly can replicate this look in post prod with whith the canon raw, but you can't get a natural look from the tamron one even in post prod. 5:15. that first comparison at 10s is a dead giveaway you get what you pay for. the flare issue and colour cast it throws on your images is an absolute pain to correct. they've nailed the sharpness and bokeh but the internal reflections are a no-go for me, cheap elements. if i want to lower the dynamic range of my sensor i'll do it with software, not the lens. (for context im a nikon guy). 3:50 i felt the same way when i had a tamrom 85 vc, amazing lens (if you dont care about deep shadows going muddy due to flare that covers the entire frame and the weird colour casts, oh and heavy vignetting wide open). for the price, excellent.

      Tamron has come a LONG way. Digital photos can be too representational and lack soul. I know you know what I mean. Sharpness is nice, but why do we need to see every single pore and errant hair? You don't see it in real life with the eye, but the lens will capture it all.
