It's shocking to think that some people thought the CGI giraffe was bad when in fact it was a real giraffe.
A healthy level of skepticism isn’t a bad thing, but people are just _too_ skeptical anymore.
@@RepellentJeff Welcome to the Post Modernist world.
Doesn't shock me. The project of training people's ability to recognize reality out of them has been ongoing for some time now.
They definitely CGI some of the giraffes movements.
Reminds me of The Simpsons: Cows don't Look like cows in TV, so we just paint some horses. 😂
This scene was pure perfection. Joel smiling at Ellie's happy giggle, the beautiful set design, the lighting. They even used the exact same music as the scene from the game. Made it all that more sweet.
Don't forget it's a real giraffe!
One little beautiful piece of Happiness before it all goes to crap.
Yeah but stole from Jurassic Park….
Fun fact, giraffe was actually real. Check the behind the scenes photos.
I was kind of doubting if it was real or not but at the same time I had been wondering how they would have achieved the giraffe yanking the leaves out of Ellie's hand so faithfully. The giraffes body does look kind of janky-ish at times when you know she's only real from the top of her neck, but it's so cool that they could do this practically.
I feel like anyone would be doubtful that this is real because giraffes are just hella weird-looking creatures in themselves and you never see them that up close 😅
@@flecks_piano Why wouldn't it be real? Giraffes are no different than deer or cows. They easily get used to humans and in many zoos you can feed them or at least get really close to them.
@@plumdutchess I'm just saying giraffes aren't the most common animal to see that up close for most people. I've been in plenty of zoos but never up in a giraffe's face like that. Most people likely have seen plenty of real cows or horses in detail on a screen, if not in real life. Giraffes not so much. It's harder to judge if something is real or not if you barely have anything in memory to compare it against.
@@plumdutchess because it would probably be more expensive filming with an actual Giraffe than a CGI one from a production point of view
that's not a real giraffe bro it looks so fake
Joel running after Ellie as a worried father was just perfection this whole scene was everything ❤️
Everytime I watch this scene I can't help to be moved by the look in Joel's face: how relieved and happy he is as he watches her baby girl smiling again after the horrors she suffered. Really beautiful.
The way Joel smiles at ellies giggles aa she fed the giraffe the leaves
Perfect scene showing how much he's starting to care for her and she becoming more like family and a daughter to him
he already loves her like a daughter IMO.
Nah he already loved ellie like a daughter at this point
1:19 “chesumare , me estay weiando”
The way he looks at her while she is feeding the giraffe: he Has already decided he is not Going to loose another daughter again.
Instead the daughter loses him.
The way he looks at her feeding the giraffe...❤😭
they a moment of peace and happiness.
you know you love someone when you smile at their happiness and joy.
These are the moments that make life worth living
the giraffe scene is probably one of my favourite scenes in the last of us it’s just something about the scene that’s so comforting
It's that despite the ugly side of nature (the cordyceps), there's also beauty and respite (The giraffe), and that beauty goes on despite the chaos that's happening. Having said that, they straight stole this scene from Jurassic Park (the Brontosaurus scene).
This scene, just like in the game, it reminds us, that ellie is still just a child. Joel is giving her a moment to be one again.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that I am hopelessly in love with Pedro Pascal, especially after watching this series. Thank you, that is all.
I like how girl is "whoa!" in the spot, but after he climbed up to spot it truns out that object that impressed her so much was after you pass 3 corners, stairs, corridor, another 2 corners, 2nd stairs, turn left, corridor and turn right. I guess girl sees trough walls 😂
Ellie belongs to the generation that was born after the pandemic. She never saw an airplane, most of animals, cars and so on! That's why she was so impressed with stuff that seemed so plain.
I had the same exact thought when I first watched the scene Lol but then I thought maybe ellie saw the giraffe from the window
That side of the building is full of holes. She probably saw a glimpse of the lower half of the giraffe from where she was standing. It's really not an issue.
"These creatures require our absence to survive, not our help. So if we could just step aside and trust in nature, life will find a way."
- John Hammond
Normally I would say the game does a lot of scenes better, but in this case with this scene, the series does better. Seeing Ellie giggling with a child's joy, and seeing Joel watching on with such warmth, I can't imagine it being done better.
The iconic line was done much better in the game.
@CaleseCrowder86 - Which one? Sorry, there seemed to be a lot of iconic lines throughout the game. So I just can't remember which one you're talking about this moment.
@@thecowboy9698 "You can't deny that view." The most memorable quote in the Last of Us series. The show messed that up by not showing the landscape as she said it and Joel immediately segways about the hospital one second after she says it.
he just loved her so much that he didn't want to let her go
If only the rest of the episode was like this! I'd gladly watch a full episode of happy Ellie and Joel! So heartbreaking knowing what's just about to happen :(
You DO know what the show is about right? Not much to feel good about
@@andyb1404 ergo when you’re lost in the darkness look for the light
First time we see Joel smiling after Sarah's death...
The jurassic park vibes are crazy
That giraffe is from the Calgary Zoo in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
If Joel could live this moment forever, he would.
In game, this was the only time I ever felt relaxed. I was almost always on edge for good reason.
They did it 😩😩🤩🤩 I can't believe it I never thought they would post it and they ended up doing it ❤️❤️❤️
I love how they create an actual gameplay into scenes like that
Yay, they used a ladder!
im smiling for 2 reasons, one the near perfect recreation of the cutscene... and the fact she as an actor got close to a real giraffe
I watch these weekly cant wait for season 2 even tho i know what were in for
I’m so happy they put this and I was so worried when it was announced, they were making this into a show that they were gonna cut the scene but thank God they didn’t
One of the most beautiful scenes in videogames and series for me the history of The Last of Us is so beautiful😁🥰❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m glad Ellie melted Joel’s tough exterior
Is it just me or the way I hear Bella's "You gotta see this. C'mon" sounds so like the videogame's version Ellie?
there are some moments they sound exactly alike
you have a new subscriber 😎❤️
This game has one of the BEST soundtracks and I can't say it enough. The production team made a very smart choice keeping it in the series as it's crucial to the story itself and how it's supposed to make you feel. Literally every scene (including this one) where i thought to myself "they'd better use the song" they did. This game goes down as my favorite video game. Ever. And they managed to do such a good job with the series. As a fan, I couldn't be more pleased. They have a real shot to do Part 2 better than the game did and if you played Part 2, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
I remember getting to this scene in the game and it's one of my top five best video game memories. I was worried about whether the show would be able to capture that same feeling but they totally nailed it. This show ks absolute perfection.
Scene like this alway bring me so much joy and happiness.
Aw they kept the giraffe scene I remember when I got my ps4 it came with last of us and this was always my favorite part of the game it showed how despite the world ending someone somewhere in America took the time to release all the animals in a zoo and now giraffes roam the americas truly magical
Man I think back to when I first played the game, then to see where the show is I get emotional as hell, it’s such a beautiful story
I fed giraffes multiple times and they are such amazing creatures
I've pretty much seen the entire show at this point, just through clips on CZcams.
HBO: We’re gonna remake all of the most loved scenes from the game!
The Giraffe Scene: My time has come….
One of my favorite scenes.
Not a day goes by this scene, of where, I had an emotional breakdown
This reminds me of the scene from Jarrasic Park when they feed the brontosaurus.
Fun fact: the giraffe was real.
Check the behind the scenes pictures.
is the music that they used in the scene dark souls music? i swear when i first saw the scene i thought it was sounds just like it
I would be excited asf too I’d I saw a healthy live giraffe
I love both characters
Can you do when marlene wad about to “kill”ellie and joel at the hospital please?
i’m so happy they kept the music from the game
I feel like this has symbolism like Ellie is still traumatized and knows now how ugly the world is and how there ugly people like David who almost ate her up. But when seeing the giraffe, you can see she has never seen the innocent that the world still has and to this point I think this is where Joel knows that he really loves Ellie. When seeing her happy makes him happy
i don't know man i just cry
The reason the Giraffe doesn’t look real is because of the flat lighting. Outdoors should be a lot brighter than it looks here. That reverse angle actually looks really good because the giraffe is a bit brighter and the indoors are completely in shadow.
How did Ellie see the giraffe from all the way down there?
Seeing the animal's shadow I assume
The building wall is damaged in lot of places, she saw the giraffe passing throwgh some hole or window, It is a big animal
To quote Patrick Star, “hahaha it’s a giraffe!”.
I love the giraffe
I had something on my feed about a suggested (& hoped for) animal oscar and one of the nominees was this giraffe. I forgot which zoo he was from, but he is a real giraffe.
Isn't the smile that Joel gives nice? The giraffe scene is a reminder that, as the Discworld author Sir Terry Pratchett says, all things strive.
The music in this scene weirdly reminds me of Yoda’s theme
Really wish Ashley had been available to be on site for this scene being shot. One of the best TLOU moments in the game.
I was wondering when Alan (The Hangover) was going to make his entrance.
People saying the CGI of the Giraffe was bad, when the Giraffe was real lol
"The giraffe is fake, the girl is fake, the man is fake, the tree is fake, everything is fake."
-Shigeru Miyamoto
The giraffe is a bull Masai giraffe named Nabo who lives at the Calgary Zoo
She was gonna give up.
how did she see the giraffe from so many floors down in the opposite direction is the real question.
I always wondered where the giraffes came from.
2:03 hey little hoomin what you got there?!
Sometimes it’s the simple things in life
It's cool😀👍
I haven't watched this show myself. Are there no other humans left? Because I can't imagine what's basically a gigantic deer just walking around with no fear of humans if there's been some apocalypse and people are scrabbling for food. ?
0:29 press triangle
The giraffe's agent wants to let them know the actor was underpaid.
Hate de voir le petit couple Mando et elie kakou ils sont trop pipouesques, likez un max pour le love mood ! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
How the hell is a giraffe all still alive during all of that
Because the animals are not infected, and continue to live normally. I mean, apart from the monkeys at the university, who were infected, but they didn't transform. And of course, the infected also attack some animals, eating them. In addition to giraffes, we have the zebra, for example, which appears in part 2, which had a baby. And the game shows a poster for a zoo in Salk Lake City, showing images of giraffes, so the giraffes are definitely from this zoo. And it is also shown in the game's concept arts, that initially the animals would also be infected, and for me it was a great decision not to have done that
How did she see the giraffe from where the ladder was? She ran up two flights of stairs to get after it, can she see through walls!? Or am I missing something?
Scene is even better in game
🫃🏻
It must be something weird with the lighting or the set design, because the giraffe just _looks_ like CGI.
The scene was with a green screen background at the zoo at the giraffe house.
@@caronstout354Yeah, that'll do it. Ha, ha.
I just don’t get why giraffes? Were they immune? How did they get them there?
Cordyceps is unique to individual species. It mutated to affect humans, so that's why you see tons of monkeys and other wildlife thriving.
In all the chaos, someone took the time to set animals free from the zoo, which is a pretty cool thing to think about. I also feel like it represents the last untainted good moment between the two before the incident at the hospital and the big lie. We get to see that Ellie is still just a kid, which we don’t get to see bc of all the horrible stuff she has to do and go through. It’s a moment of innocence where she gets to be unburdened from her ptsd and trauma and Joel gets to see her from a fatherly perspective and gets immense joy watching her get to be a kid again.
Fun fact: that giraffe is in calgary zoo
You teased the straight and now he's dead.
She ran up around 4 flights of steps after climbing up a ladder. How tall is that girafffe?
There scene costar is beautiful and very well behaved
I can't watch season 2 I'm sorry no matter how brilliant Pedro and Bellas performance is in this it will be too painful 😢 and I'm too soft i don't think I could enjoy it knowing how awesome they are together not that Bella won't kill role there amazing
Bella you're my crush
Jurassic Park did it first
yeah, because survivors wouldn't take them down for meat, right
just wondering is that a real giraffe or CG animation?
It seems mostly real. There footage of them working with a giraffe on set as well
Its real. The reason it looks jank is mostly likely because of the blue screen
it's real, the only thing fake in that scene is the environment, They got the real Giraffe from a zoo I believe lol.
@@hwanniggles187But the CGI scenery is well done, it really looks real.
The giraffe is real but... why does she look lile made in CGI?
The backdrop is CGI.
Probably because the backdrop behind the giraffe is CGI. The lighting effect on the giraffe doesn't come off quite right and so it looks CG even though it's not.
Is This a real giraffe?
Yup
👍
no way that is real, why I feel like this is cgi?
It real
Real real real real real
Real
Giraffe is real. The background is not.
It's just a shame they couldn't get a real Giraffe.
It’s a real giraffe u can watch the behind the scenes of them filming
@@Gentleman_And_Scholar That's fucking awesome if it is real, idk why but, it just looks CGI to me.
@@Squashylemon yeah man I promise! Check it out, it’s sick asf. Believe it or not, the entire rest of the set in that scene is green screen, the giraffe is the only part that isn’t cgi lmao, it’s a bit funny
@@Gentleman_And_Scholar You were right it is real. Maybe it just looks CGI because the background is CGI so, it distorts it and makes it look fake. Why get a real Giraffe but, CGI grass and other plants?
@@Squashylemon idk man, that’s what I thought was pretty funny. Still tho, the actual cgi surprised me, I figured the background was but the rest is pretty goddamn real looking. Prolly easier and safer environment for handling a giraffe if I had to make a guess
The AR magazine he takes and then swaps into his Ruger Mini 14 would not have fit.
Nobody cares gunbro
I find out the dialogue for this show is so bad and chessy 🤷🤦.
Why are we acting like we’ve never seen a giraffe before?
This show brainwashed ppl into thinking mediocre things are amazing.
Way to miss the point of this scene
@@hwanniggles187 this show is lame
@@LiterallyGod and yet here you are. Looked up this scene just to make a edgy comment.
Well Ellie literally *hasn’t* seen one before! It’s about what this means to her.
@@msdurden1355 im god. Im everywhere
All the elements: the music, the dialogues, the setting suits the scene perfectly to make the audience smile because it’s supposed to. To show that there is still good in a fallen world and that effect works perfectly. That right there is how to produce a masterpiece!! 👏🤝🫶
