We are a DIY family trying to build a better life. We like to share projects and regular life updates. Our goals are to create a happy home, live healthy, develop our life skills, and see where our life leads us.
You do you! I'm so sick of viewers trying to tell creators how to live their lives. I enjoy each and every one of your videos. From cleaning up your yard to upgrading the mobile home, it's all entertaining to me.
Doug is not a lumberjack so he doesn't need a huge chainsaw. Besides, it's his choice. No justification required. Part of being self-employed is setting your own pace and priorities. Working on various projects can often be beneficial. It can lessen or help avoid repetitious boredom. Your home is already amazing. Thank you for sharing your interesting journey.
@@shelzmike really , feel better lol
Yes it is dangerous to have the too small or wrong tools. I have seen many of those ”real men” get hurt while cutting wind fell trees. The trees often hit back….
Well said
Tip for cutting such large branches: do an undercut first, then cut from the top. And no, Doug, you shouldn't be doing that in shorts😂❤
Glad you are okay but now the dad in me is coming out.
First two hands on the saw no matter how small it is.
Second. Never, never, never cut a tree or limb without first making a back cut on the downhill side.
The limbs can very violently spilt down the middle.
It could have easily knocked you off the tree, or hit you hard enough to break something.
My dad was in the hospital with a man who cut straight through a maple tree. It spilt so hard that it almost scalped him and left him not in his right mind.
Okay dad feels better.
On June 13 at 3:10am…Lightning stuck the massively large oak tree flanking my house and it fell directly on my house!!! It felt like a explosion happened (1 window in my room burst open) the crashing was so loud my ears were ringing for at least 20 minutes! The tree crashed through the roof of front of the house and front porch…Thankfully nobody was in that part of the house at that time…The insurance claims adjuster came out and he measured the fallen tree at 12 feet around and the other oak tree that’s still standing flanking the opposite side of house was measured at 16ft around…and we have finally gotten the fallen oak completely cut up and hauled away just a few days other (thanks to my brother’s company)…And we have other oak scheduled to be cut down soon!!! I wish I could post a picture of how massive the fallen tree was…But I am glad none of y’all were harmed either! This stormy Alabama (Florida) weather isn’t playing this summer!
Thank God, there was no damage to your home and none of your family was hurt when that tree fell! Great job getting it cleaned up!
Ashley you were so right when y’all moved in and cut all the trees down that were near the house!
Omgoodness, you made me laugh so hard!
A manly saw. 😂😂
Keep being you!
Thank God no one was outside in that area at the time the tree fell. You really managed to get that cleaned up pretty quickly.
I LOVE your tour of the garden. “We don’t know if the tomatillos will produce.” That’s just so perfect and exactly the kind of advice I like.
Also, “I’m feeling manlier already.” Made me lol!!!
So glad that massive tree didn’t fall in the middle of the day when the family was on the yard. Thank God everyone was safely tucked in for the night.
It only makes sense that you have the chain saw that you have. You don't need anything bigger that one worked just fine. And working on the tree instead of the trim for the living room is what needed to be done for your family and your children. Still confuses me why people feel they can tell others what to do in their lives. SMH Glad no one was hurt only a few toys.
You could say today you went out on a limb to give us this video
I laughed SO HARD when the music came on for the chainsaw reveal. Too funny...
So sorry you lost your shade but that was a pretty cool and different video. Thank you for bringing us along and thanks for the laugh with the "Manly" chainsaw bit.
I've been chainsawing my own trees for firewood for over 15 years and I would have hired a tree service for that one.
Why it's already down, thats half the battle, why pay someone when you can do it yourself?
Laurel Oak tree's are known to rot out anywhere from about 4 foot to 6 foot from the trees base after a while, when that happens it's time to take the tree down before Mother Nature does it her way... Thanks for sharing tho, as always, wonderful to see ya'll.. STAY SAFE and STAY HEALTHY!!!
Depending on the tree you maybe could make some money, tree’s don’t need much to come down top heavy may have been the problem..❤🎉🎉 thankful it did not land on the house ❤🙏🏻🙏🏻❤
Glad the tree fell to a safe side of your property.
I am so happy that massive tree fell where it did. I'm glad you got the chain saw to start cutting it up. There is probably enough wood in that tree to frame out a house, if you had a saw mill. Maybe someone would be interested in buy it. It would be worth advertising it on line. Glad y'all are safe. Have a Blessed day.
“I’m feeling manlier already” 😂😂 love this, Doug!
Grateful this didn’t happen in the Daytime when the Kids could have been out playing…😮
Here’s another thought Better it dropped before now instead of by hurricane. Great job cutting it up
I live in Florida and see this quiet often. Sometimes the tree is too top heavy. If the ground is too wet, the roots can’t hold up the tree. Huge trees just topple over.
Happens in Texas too when there's been a lot of rain that saturates the ground. Some trees just don't have a wide enough root system.
RIP Tree 1703-2023 🌲🙏⚰💐❤
Yup RIP Tree
Firewood. God is taking care of you no injury. Had to clear it, you got snakes and spiders that can hurt the kiddos
When your peppers are done, cut them low. They will come back next year.
Lucky no one was hurt when the tree fell!
Your sense of humor is Hilarious. The Man Saw!!😂😂😂😂
Glad that everyone is safe. That is weird that it fell for no reason. Stay safe God's blessings.
Cut up the wood and save it for bonfires or put it at the road for sale. People always need wood for camping.
This was a great video, especially the music for the chainsaw reveal! Looks like a decent saw, good for you! Good job with the tree removal! Ashley is a hearty worker! Loved the garden tour, too!
Hope Ashley's car is still safe and sound.
Best ad for DeWALT I've ever seen! You guys are the BEST! Always great camera work and music! And the "I'm feeling manlier already?" 🤣 Perfect! Thankful you're all okay! God is with you! That's a lot of weight right there! 😯
Ashley, your editing is priceless. When we got a look at that chainsaw, and the music cranked up, I got a good belly laugh for the day. I know I say this a lot, but I just love you guys 🥰
That tree was huge. So glad no one was injured and it missed the house. Dead trees are dangerous. Please be safe. I love that you guys do you. That is why I follow.
In Texas we call that fire wood Gift from God
Wow, thank goodness no one was hurt. Both of you did a remarkable job clearing the tree debris.
You have a lifetime to finish your home. Don’t rush yourselves. Be well, be blessed ❤
Even fallen, the tree is still beautiful. I may have had to climb on it for a couple days before removing.
Oh my word, thank goodness no one was hurt!!!!!!! Doug thank goodness you had the equipment to not only cut down the tree but to haul it away. Leave it to Doug and Ashley to bring us a GREAT video❤❤ oh a little tease at the end😂
Thank you for sneaking in a little tour of your garden, I have been wondering what happened with it. I tried growing a garden in large containers in a hot climate and frankly, it was a bit of a disaster. Some people seem to think growing a garden is like "Jack and the Beanstalk," you just toss some seeds in the dirt and they grow like magic. It sure didn't work that way for me, LOL 🤣
Thank God the tree did not come down on your house!
The wall color is beautiful ❤
I had a branch break off the tree in my front yard, I thought it was HUGE I was mistaken my branch was tiny compared to your tree. The neighbor and several of his church members helped me cut up and dispose of the branch, six people made quick work of clearing it up, you did a spectacular job clearing on such a HUGE tree.
I love the music when you introduce the manly tool. Haha. DeWalt would be proud of that advertisement. The music you used for staining. I kept picturing Doug doing the fonzy dance. I guess it's the Russian dance he always did. Hehe😂
Another awesome video produced and posted by Doug and Ashley. Thanks you two.
You get done what you need to get done. I can appreciate that you actually work on your house.
WOW! That is a big tree! Firewood for life! It seems like when one big tree falls others will follow soon. More wind will take them down soon.
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist: Pessimist--oh crap, that's gonna be too much work. Optimist--free FIRE WOOD! Love your enthusiasm kurthuck!
That was a Hugh tree....bomb fire wood...I like seeing your garden...
I've always been the type of person who would ask "why would that fall like it did"
My conclusion is God did it. We have 2 more months of hurricane season. Imagine the damage that tree would have done to your property if a hurricane went through.
I think of things like that. Glad it happened now instead of then. Y'all have a great week.
Also great background music
Good gracious! That is a HUGE tree!! Glad it fell where nothing was damaged! Hope all have an awesomely blessed day!
You two should have a weekly spot on HGTV people would love what you are doing!
Thank God it didn't fall and hurt anyone or hit your home.
What a shame to lose your neighbouring forest/swamp! Do you know what will happen to that land now? Will there be neighbours, or will it be left to regrow? I think you should plant a bunch of new trees to make up for the loss. Fruit trees seem obvious, but mix in some taller trees for the shade someday too. Loved the manly music for the manly chainsaw reveal! I bet you're glad to have the digger too. Great choice to buy it and have it on hand for things that come up like this.
They are clearing that parcel out to expand their cattle field. So no houses thankfully! Thanks!
excavotor earns it's keep!
Thank goodness it didn’t fall on anyone or on the house !!
Place looks great. Feel bad you have to go through that with the tree going down but thank goodness it didn’t affect your home!
Floor looks great 👍🏻
Thanks!
So very glad you all are safe, thank heavens it didn’t hit your house. Take care you guys, I live for your videos.❤
Wow, that is a massive tree!!! Doug looks so small next to it!! So glad it didn’t come down to hurt anyone or your home!!!
Ashley - the
‘ manly ‘ music 🎶
for the chainsaw ❤🤣!
So glad nobody got hurt !
Stay safe 🙏
I know you have the DeWalt baggies already, but a gas powered chainsaw is the answer on larger diameter trunks. Battery just doesn’t have the power.
However, battery is great for shrubs and such! Recip-saw with the garden blade is good stuff too. Not sure why people complain about those - they work great!
so grateful that the massive tree fell on ground and old toys as opposed to on your house or your vehicles or your family.
Hello again, I hope you are doing well and healthy.
I just wanted to say that if you took the time and energy to buck that wood you can have enough for years if you had a backyard fireplace. Or, you can sell that as firewood for others and earn several thousand dollars.
Thanks for making great videos. I'm still stuck on my bathroom tile job ...ugh. and I've been looking at your trailer tear down for the 'trailer project! I'm planning for with the trailer I have on the other side of my property.
Be well. Thank you.
PS. Would you have any desire to come to Vermont to 'help me finish my tiles....
Seeing you up there standing on the tree gave a great view of how huge this tree was. That had to be very alarming hearing it fall.
I'd agree it is good to evaluate the other big trees in your yard.
What happened to the forest that used to be in the backyard? Did your neighbors clear their property?
Ashley, you do a great job editing and creating video. Always entertaining ❤
Yea, they have been clearing out that huge parcel over the last few months to expand their cattle field.
As nearly everyone has already said so glad all of you are safe from harm. My husband I watch every single one of your videos and even though we don't know each other personally we love all of you in Christ and appreciate you taking time out of your busy lives to bring joy to ours. Blessings to you all
Amen
Thank God it was your back yard and not the house. Thank you Lord.
In case you did not know tomatillos do not self propagate. You need two different plants to pollinate each other. I had a beautiful plant, but no fruit because I only had the one. Your family is wonderful to watch! I always become motivated after watching ya'll! On another note, homeschooling is great. I saw you mentioned you homeschooled on a previous video. To pass on words of encouragement for the new school year I thought I would share that we homeschooled our sons their entire schooling. One is a firefighter and the other is graduating this fall from college.
Yea, it's weird that the tomatillos haven't produced anything yet. We have many tomatillos plants growing in 2 raised beds. Maybe they just need more time?
The little excavator that could. Glad the tree did not damage your house
Doug and Ashley, you are so blessed that tree missed your house and what could’ve happened
Check around to see if there is someone operating a sawmill near you. They would love to get that tree. Th crouch where you left off, that’s a $1000.00 piece when cut into slabs. Glad it missed the house. We once had a pine tree fall over on our house.
Best advice. Woodworkers would love that wood!
Glad it came down when no one was near. Thats a big tree!
I’m so glad tree didn’t hit your home or equipment
You the man, Doug!! How many men have their own personal excavator to do work around the property? 😮❤❤
Oh my goodness gracious that was a big tree! I am so thankful that the tree fell where and when it did and no one was injured. Your family is too precious to lose, especially your sweet children. Stay safe!
I would suggest wearing a safety harness when you're on top of it cutting large limbs off, or using a ladder, as the main trunk can react violently as the limbs come off causing you to loose your footing.
It is a miracle that it didn't hit the house I'm glad you are all safe
Lol..I reckon your manliness is never in question no matter the size of your tools! Lol. Seriously glad that tree fell when and where it did, alternatives don't bear thinking about..😕👍🇬🇧
Look forward to all your videos, no matter what you are doing!
God is good🙏....glad ya ll was safe😮
It's a shame you guys don't have a wood stove. All that wood would be a blessing.
They wouldn't need much. Just a small long one with cook top in the event of grid down or chilly mornings. LOL
I'm done with woodstoves. Too much of a hassle and too messy :)
@diyfferent it would be kind of cool to have an antique cast iron wood burning cook stove outside to use like a grill. Then you wouldn't have to worry about mess! We had one as our primary cooker until I was about 6-7 years old (the youngest of 6 so a LOT of cooking happened on that stove!). My mom told me she used to bury parts in the backyard to get my dad to buy her a modern (1970s!) stove. I wish I had that stove now. I still remember how delicious and tender mom's roast beef was - surprising since it wasn't easy to regulate temperature in those beasts.
idk if anybody said this yet but if it's been raining a lot the ground could have been saturated and with that trees tend to fall over cause there's nothing for the roots to hold on to 🤷♀️ I'm just glad that monster didn't take anybody out when it gave in to gravity love that lil battery operated chainsaw I should invest in one for myself... (I'm disabled & have R A so I'm really weak now & I miss doing tree work ~ I owned a tree business at one time) great work Doug on taking her down 🙂
Doug, your walls are darker than I would do BUT if they aren’t to dark for you they aren’t to dark. Pay no attention to those who say differently.
Glad it didn't hit the house!!!
There was some evidence of earlier damage and subsequent rot in parts of that tree. It would be interesting to see how far down the rot had travelled. I suspect that the tree had been damaged. The weight of the head allied with the load added by rain was probably just enough to tip the balance in favour of falling. The main things is that nobody was hurt when it fell, or when you started on the clean-up.
That little electric chainsaw has some power and I am loving want you have done to the house so far I would live in it
Another new project. YAY !!
It's definitely a shock, no doubt. Big trees can fall just from soft soil that has become very saturated. Thankfully it was away from the house.
You could plant some fast growing pines or another tree 🌲 to fill in that space and give you more shade and privacy.
Always plant what is native to the area. I think pines are.
@@pattiwhite9575 Doug and Ashley are good at figuring that out.
Make some floor boards with the oak and use them in the house.
Its great no damage was done to your house.😊
Great job clearing the massive tree. Glad you guys didnt have damage.
I Enjoyed the video! I played the section of you using the new Dewalt chainsaw for my husband. He was impressed with what you were able to do with it. He Needs a new chain saw!...Doug you are So funny!..🙋👍🥰
Doug and Ashley, my goodness!! 😮 That tree was HUGE! It had to be very old. Thankful that it was far enough away to not hit your home! White oaks root system are not very deep. It probably couldn't with stand the upper weight.
I am so curious now of your next project.
I love the dark walls and trim. That room will be so cozy. The old parlor feel.❤
Your channel has to be one of my favorites!👏
After watching to the end, I was wrong, you can handle anything. 👌
You never know what is going to happen. I know y'all will figure it out. God bless your family❤ 2:51
That sure is a huge tree
That's what I was thinking! A huge tree!😮 goodness gracious!
The same thing happened to us. We lost three big trees, and now the yard is too sunny and much lighter. I guess we'll get used to it.
I’m truly thankful no one was hurt by the tree. Good choice on your chain saw. I have an electric chain saw too. Cuts through everything I need it to.
You rock no matter what you two are doing! We have two neighbors that have fallen trees, you make it look so easy
Wow, that was a ginormous tree. Who needs a big, "manly" chainsaw when you've got a John Deere Excavator? :)
