I'm 56 yrs old grew up on the Mississippi Harper's ferry Iowa to be exact your comment I cannot change a thing you said staring at the tower being hypnotized by the sound can still hear it like it was yesterday peace on freind
Forget about how fast it goes...there is always someone somewhere going faster. What is amazing is that the boat and motor are works of art. Well done.
That was awesome - My dad had almost the same rig back in the late 1960's. We lived on Clarks Island in Plymouth, MA & he used the boat to commute across the bay to his plumbing business.
That is very cool. I have a 140 Mercury tower of power on a Donzi Sweet 16. My dad bought the bare hull in 1980 without it’s inbound v drive gear so we stuck a 78 engine on it. Its sitting in storage gonna start restoring it soon. Had so much fun as a kid running around the lake in that boat. Also have a 87 Donzi Z21 I repowered in 06 with a 496 mag ho. Bit of a vintage Donzi habit.
I was a kind when i was looking from these outboard engines I remember the engines where two strokes and 6 cilinders in line but i dont remember the difference horspower there where at the time in the 6 cilinder line from mercury. Sorry for my bad Inglisch I am from Belgium
Ive just bought a merc straight 6 150hp tower of power built early 70s and the guy servicing it is sucking his teeth and telling me they dont work. Please cheer me up with some positive vibes about these motors!
Lake Cresent near Port Angeles? Not sure I have ever seen it so calm. As clear as the water is in the thumbnail and the trees....sure looks like it. Great build! 👍
We lived on Wooten lake in Belfair Wa. We had the fastest boat on the lake for years. Guys would come from all over to race my dad. A boat just like this one was custom built to beat my dad's boat but failed. I could see the wood flexing a d it didn't look very safe but he gave it a good shot. We just had an 18 ft Challenger Jetboat with a 460 Ford but this was in the 80's. That is a very sweet boat you have.
Tower of Power still makin wakes ! I have an 88 115 on an 18 ft . Ranger Fisherman. Every spring someone pulls up and wants to buy it. Owned it over 25 years , not for sale.
Just bought a straight 6 merc tower of power from early ‘70s and the guy servicing it is sucking his teeth and telling me they dont work. Please cheer me up with some positive vibes!
I have a Glasspar G3 13'6" with a short shaft 150hp with power trim. I am using a stainless steel three blade 21" prop. I can't get the speed and rpm's you do out of yours. What size prop are you using?
@@peter1708 It sounds like your turning every bit of 6000 rpms. This 150 hp I have will not rise above 5800 rpm. I had an older 125hp that ran as good as this present motor. It's getting hard to locate anyone who knows anything about these older Mercs, what can be done to them internally to make them run stronger, that sort of thing.
Power head is a 1980 140; short shaft with 1.78:1 gears. Prop is a 24" small eared chopper. Boat is home made, design is called Rascal. 14'10" cold molded with mahogany and maple planking.
Good question. The new motor is about 285-290 lbs (per NADA site), the older 100HP was estimated about 265 or so (never did measure it and never found numbers online). She handles the extra weight quite well.
@@peter1708 I'm running a 1978 merc 70hp 3 cyl on a merc 402 mid and lower on my hydroplane. Running a low water pickup and cleaver prop. Trying to find more power but I really can't have more than 150 lbs.
Is that Crescent Lake in Washington State beautiful Lake if it's in the Olympics you want to run a boat go to Alder Lake and bring a real boat that'll do more than 68 miles an hour that's slow ran a 15-foot Marlin Casale V-drive with a thousand horsepower rat motor in it and would do 135 miles per hour just for fun
wow amazing no stupid 2 minute intro no music just pure greatness
I agree this is how video should be I get so tired of the stupid music nobody wants to hear the Talking Heads babbling on and on and on
Brought back memories on the lake as a kid in the '70's facing backwards staring right at the old Thunderbolt! I love it!!

That Merc is a beast! Great old American horse power! You are a brave man flying at nearly 70mph in a 14’ boat. Kudos 👍
Forget about how fast it goes...there is always someone somewhere going faster. What is amazing is that the boat and motor are works of art. Well done.
That whole combo is so beautiful.
I know for a fact they went to 135hp. I think they went up to 150 tho

Best commute ever

Plus its gorgeous
That's great! I make the same run each year in my 68 bayliner discovery. I love that lake!
Our neighbor on the lake had one. Bigger boat, but the same Merc. As I recall, it was pretty thirsty.
Most beautiful HB

OMG !!! ... "Champ" couldn't even catch you on Lake Champlain !!!
When you put a motor that’s larger than the boat it’s attached to well what do you expect.
THUNDERBOLT BABY
Fabulous 🤠
I own a 1985 90 hp Tower of Power and it still runs solid
Man that motor sounds strong
Tower of Power
Tower of power
That tower of power looks brand new
It's 1980 140 power head; new paint and decals, circa 1971, do wonders for looks.
I-6 Mercs were badass in their day....
Like a T2X, ETC.
Awesome-
Is that a panther engine. Looks like one I had.
Sweet.

Where’s the fishing rods ?
I had an ugly green 1966 sea ray 17 footer with a 150 black max v6 . Its fun to run
What a flat lake!!!!
Take my word for it - it’s not always flat. But it is always cold, and very, very deep.

ground and water are little speeding meter...
not same kph - mph
What is this app shows the speed and time?
The camera has as GPS antenna built in, the camera software extracts the info automatically. I think most "action cams" have this feature.
How does the weight compare to the old motor
Good question. The new motor is about 285-290 lbs (per NADA site), the older 100HP was estimated about 265 or so (never did measure it and never found numbers online). She handles the extra weight quite well.

The didn’t call it the tower of power for no dumb reason!.
And what year Merc are you running?
1980 140 ADI power head.
Ha ha, I have to put my Carlson 15' and Merc 115 in the bay and see how is the top speed!!!
Is that 2 Strokes ¿¿¿
yes, 2 stroke.
Bro you easily could have gone 85 to 90 if them big ole balls weren't weighing you down! Nice!

So this is a dangerous boat too.but still awesome
Really clear water in that lake. Too bad that merc was polluting it.
Waaaaaaaaa 😭
Bull shit
Is that a rc boat 🤣🤣🤣
CZcams the platform of negativity now
How many surface animals did you kill? ...
LoL! So what
What a beautiful lake. Putting a gas engine on it is a sure way to have an oil slick for a lake cover.
Waaaaaa 😭
Noise pollution
Entirely too much power, anything over 50 horse is a waste.
Tower of Power!
