  • When hand feeding baby birds, there are several crop related issues that are seen in baby birds. Issues like #SourCrop, #SlowCrop, #CropBurn and #Indigestion. These issues are not easy to treat and I always prefer to avoid these crop related issues at any cost. Simple but some of the effective methods I've share here in this vide and if you follow these methods during the baby hand feeding and growth weeks, you will never see these crop related issues.

What do you recommend I should do? @phdahdbirds  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Friend, I do not have much experience with Alexandrine Parrot, small lump in the crop could be residual food, if he is hungry and active and asking for food then things should be ok. I also think that Chana Daal is a good option to feed these parrots, try to bled it a little and then feed. You can also try fully ripe papaya. That will help with digestion. All the best.

    • @phdahdbirds
      @phdahdbirds  Před 2 lety +1

      If I understand that correctly, when you feed baby parrot, while swallowing, some air pockets get created in the crop which is normal. Usually you see, baby birds flap their wings just after feeding and that adjust food in their crop. This also removes these air pockets. So nothing to worry.
      Sometimes when they swallow extra food than required, crop extends and you see around their neck just above wings two bumps, again this is normal but I would suggest to avoid extra feeding, slightly less is always good. Hope this helps.

      @phdahdbirds  Před 2 lety

      Hello Friend
      If you just started the hand feeding for the baby cockatiel then it is better to start with drop by drop this way they get use to the taste of this hand feed and will swallow it. Also check the temperature of the hand feed it should be within 36-40 °C. See the first day of hand feeding video there if you see that is the first time I’m feeding those cockatiel babies and I’m feeding them drop by drop. Chicks are vomiting because they might not be comfortable with the tube in their throat. So try to feed drop by drop initially. Sometimes some chick takes 15min to swallow and finish 10ml. Hello, best option at this stage is not to feed at all and wait for few more hours. Next feeding should be very watery and massage the crop if something is still remaining from previous feed, it get mixed and digested.

Over feeding is not. You should know how old the chick is to feed him appropriately. Check with breeder again. Hello, I would suggest you take bird to breeder, he would have knowledge to handle baby bird’s digestive issues. You should be using hand feeding formula and not cereal. I don’t know why he suggested that. If chick is not digesting then use Neopeptine one drop in 10ml warm(35 to 37deg) water and feed it. That should help but again I would suggest to take it back to breeder. If the bird recovers then use hand feeding formulas.
      All the best.

      Hey, I don’t want to give false promise, at this age their crop is not so strong to deal with indigestion. Is it the food that you fed which is not digested or food from parents? If parents feed him then that should not be an issue but if you fed him and is not getting digested then you flush the crop and leave him with parents for few days. That is what I would do but to be honest this is really bad situation.
